Well Jeff, to be honest I have no idea how much it is worth.

What do you want for it? Is it easy to fit? Does the horn still work through the centre Porsche crested bit?

Is it in Good condition?

Let me know!

2 things about track use.....

Get the suspension alignment checked before you track the car...Its critical on these and takes anything between 5-8 hours

Have a look at getting it done at a specialised, I got mine done at 930 Motorsport in Cheshire or you could try AmD near Oxford.

Change the front brake hoses for stainless and fit uprated pads (I always used Pagid which seem to work well).....

Keith Pink at Prestige Parts is one of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet; 2 944's on his drive and a 911 Targa in the garage, all in bits - a man after my own heart!

Cool

Hiya Davyboy!

That looks bloody tidy matey!

ive been following this thread with interest! ive always liiked the 944's especially the turbos!

How does it feel to drive compared with the scoob? i know its older but i imagine the build quality is excellent!

ive never been in a 944 before, but as they get older they look even more appealing compared to todays modern designs with mostly look they same.

now ive got rid of my scoob and bought summat economical it gives me some scope in the future for somthing like this.

ill be intersted in your future reports on how you find it!

Nice one mate!

Thanks guys!

Initial thoughts.

Steering is much heavier than the scoob, but every movement is transfered to the wheels, its very responsive.

When you accelerate out of 3rd and 4th gear corners, it just fires out. you can hang on to each gear for longer too.

One thing I have noticed is the acceleration up hills, it does make me smile!

The biggest shock I had when I moved the other way (from 944 Turbo to MY00) was that it appeared that I had to turn the steering wheel before I got to the corner and use a large amount of arm movement, whereas with the Porsche you turn the wheel when you get to the corner and only use your wrists......

Track days where excellent with the '44 be able to drive around the corners using the throttle to adjust the backend.....

Bunch of bloody thread hi-jackers!!

Cheers for the ride last week Dave, very impressed with it, loads better than I ever thought and I must admit I have never considered 944's before. We'll have to see whats around when I'm ready to buy...

BTW pranged my car on Friday made a right old mess, 3 weeks to fix they reckon.

One of those things, charging around like a fool, tired, moments lack of concentration and smack. Really stupid, mail me off line if you want a laugh.

So hows the car running now you've had it for a week? Have you put Optimax through it? When are the engine upgrades being done? Whens its first track expedition?

Actually Clare told me what you were up too!

I did put some Optimax in the car, but talking to other owners their seems little point. The car has a big sticker saying 95RON fuel only! I will stick some in for track days though.

I have spent a few quid on Interior enhancements, that is now complete (I have not got the bits yet, but have spent the money). I have a CD player sorted (Floyd) a nice steering wheel sorted (Jeff).

Next, a set of 17" cup alloys (hopefully 2nd hand), and a set of Michelin cup tyres for my 16's. Then the 300bhp beckons!!

Saying that I have not Driven her since Sunday!

Ah hell I forgot about the family connection we have with Clare now, I'll have to be careful with my moments of stupidity from now on. I'm suprised my brother in law hasn't phoned up to take the ****.

You'll have to let me know when your first track trip is, could be interesting to watch. Look forward to watching the car develop! We're out for a few with Paul early next week if you're interested?

I got mine in a private sale.

You just have to take your time and look through all the usual places, autotrader, find it, then PCGB and 911 and porsche worlds, 944 mailing list.

Look at as many as you can. Some look good, some are good mechanically, rarely are they both.

Dave,

If it's standard it's got to have a knackered wastegate (they were crap from new) and they lag for Germany, so imagine how fast it will seem when you get it sorted!

Mine actually felt slower after I modded it because of the smoother delivery, until it came to getting on the brakes for corners I know well. Overall it felt like the pads had been greased in fact, but not much could live with it [legally obliged to insert at this point 'but not as quick as a Scooby through the twisties'].

Watch the head gasket though; they seem to go once they get over 10 years old, regardless of miles, history, boost levels etc. (presumably they get brittle).

Not sure to get a DPW or boost enhancer at the moment. I guess the boost enhancer is a little cheaper, 250 bhp will do for a while.

I was driving in the wet today and accelerated hard in 2nd and lit the rears up! not something I really want happening at 50mph lol

I lit up my rears in 3rd on a slip road onto the M42 about 10 mins after I picked the car up. I thought the clutch was knackered until it pulled again in 4th! It didn't happen again after I replaced the bacolite Avons with nice sticky Yokos. It did snap sideways once at about 80 where the high-grip surface after a roundabout (Countess on the A303 heading East) ends a bit too soon.

I wasn't very impressed with the boost enhancer; it does a job, but you'll want to replace it pretty soon. I haven't tried the DPW conversion (as I said I went with a TiAL; good enough for a 962 racer, good enoung for my 951), but I imagine it does the business.

You should try a new wastegate, boost enhancer and an AmD remap

If you think you've got a new car now....how does wheelspin in 3rd sound ....?
