Dave,
Funny, but I've suddenly come around to your way of thinking re: Scoob vs 944T after yet another day when it didn't go as well as it had the day before. Small world, eh?
Jeff,
Yep, I'll give you that, the SE was the S everywhere else.
Beg to differ on the spoiler though; my turbo has the bridge wing and when my neighbour thought he'd set the alarm off one night by jumping on it, it was definitely fibreglass that broke (and yes, it was a genuine original wing).
Nice sounding car BTW. What did the Huntley gadget do? I have a 968 turbo S wing on order to replace my broken one.

Have a look at http://www.huntleyracing.com and they do a lot of tuning parts for the 951. The part I had was a valve (like a Dawes) which basically held of the pressure from the wastegate line until it had reached a preset pressure (slightly below the normal wastegate opening pressure). This allowed the car to accelerate much faster because the virtually all 944 Turbo's suffer from weak wastegate springs which allow the wastegate to bleed pressure away from the turbo.
AmD also now do a rebuilt wastegate for the 944 Turbo which will achieve the same results.

The orginal 944 Turbo had a K26#6 turbo and the TurboS had a K26#8 turbo. The K27 was used as an upgrade by a number of firms but I don't think that it was fitted orginally.

Has anyone dropped a 944 Turbo(8v?) lump into a 968 CS? or are there any porsche specialists who've dropped the compression and bolted a turbo on?...preferably in the UK?
Woud've thought that would be the perfect moddable(sp?)/trackday car
Not that Im tiring of Rally reps or anything

Jeff,
I've drooled over Huntley kit before. I used to have a Lindsay (I think) boost enhancer, which sounds the same, but I went with a TiAL wastegate as part of my last big round of mods; makes a nice flutter sound as you lift off.
I had a feeling I was possibly wrong on the turbo types.
Mark,
Ok, dodgy graphic is personal taste, but it was a factory option and I kinda like it... The car now has two slots in the badge panel and 968 mirrors, but it also looks a bit sorry for itself sitting dusty and nose high with no spoiler on the back, so I haven't taken any more piccies for a while.
Dave, congrats; you sound like you'll love it.
DazW,
Even the 968 Turbo S pictured is a 3.0 with the 8 valve head. I've heard of a turbo'd 16 valve car in the States but a more common mod is to mate the 3.0 block & crank with the rest of the 944's 2.5. More common yet is just the crank to give 2.8. If you use a 3.0 block and overbore it as far as it can go and get custom pistons / rods / just about everything else then it will go to 3.2, and an relatively easy 500+BHP. I've heard of US 3.0 cars spinning wheels in 3rd gear in the dry, and I believe that there are no 3.2's in this country. I (hopefully still) have first refusal on a scored 3.0 block and good crank, but I'm worried that the entire worth of my Scooby would end up being poured into the Porker's engine bay if I went for it. I blow hot and cold on whether or not to do it; today was another good day in the Scoob, but tomorrow I may be disappointed in it... The Porsche was one hell of a lot quicker even with just 330 brake.

Hi Fen,
Serverely tempted to go the 968 CS route + 944 Turbo bits, as I cant quite afford a Turbo S ...or RS
Am I correct in thinking that the 968 Turbo S/ RS uses 964? Turbo hubs/brakes/wheels?

As far as I'm aware the 968 Turbo S is different as far as the brakes/wheels/suspension & a-arms are concerned to the 968CS. This doesn't you can't build a replica based on a CS but you'll probable need ...
2.8/3.2 L 944 Turbo motor with an uprated fuel system/MAF/ECU/Turbo
Different Bonnet
Different Rear Wing
Uprated Brakes (I think the orginal 968 Turbo S had 964 Turbo S brakes)
and lastly those beautiful 18" split rim wheels.
I looked at doing this some time ago and the cost was almost the same price as the donor car....
There are a number of 'replica' cars done in the States and in Germany.
Have a look at

Cheers for the link Jeff,
Im not really bothered about the cosmetic side of things (which I'd imagine would be pretty expensive due to rarity)...well apart from those alloys quite prepared to just get a CS for now and wait for some unfortunate 944 & 964 Turbo owners to ...ahem fall off the road

Daz,
I must admit I don't know the chassis differences with the 968 Turbo S.
Unless you particularly want the 968 look then I really think a 944T would be a better base car (say £7,500 for one good enough to rebuild the engine in) rather than twice that for a 968 CS (unless you don't mind LHD, but then drop the 944T price by £2k).
The CS is really just stripped out and with the sport suspension that '88 and '89 turbos had (and things like the seats are still very heavy in comparison to aftermarket buckets). OK you may get an M030 one, but the bits to make a 944 that spec cost less than the difference.
It's easy to get wheels, mine are 18"s (although there is a Porsche technical builleting that says my hubs will fall off) and the best mod for braking is the "big red" callipers as used on 928GTS and 993 Turbo.
I can find out more and reply again when I have more time if you like.

Hi Fen,
Just got a thing for a 968 CS & I know how difficult it is to get a car to go on a diet so I thought, why not start off pretty light to start with (although Im not too sure of kerb weight differences between the 2)
Any info will be much appreciated, as If I do decide to change motors itll be in the new year, It all depends on how well my '4 goes when I fit my MoTeC

....a 968 turbo S will set you back nearly £70K secondhand - there are less than 40 ever built I believe but they look so gorgeous....
I too am thinking about chopping my ITR for a 944 turbo or even a well sorted S2...... 3litres, 4 cyclinders = BIG torque
Lets see the piccies once you have the car

Daz,
I have a book about them somewhere, but I haven't seen it since we moved. I'll try to dig it out and post the differences this weekend sometime.
Have you looked at www.968.net ?
IMHO this is the best 968 I've seen:
