A real big thankyou to the lads who attended.I was baffled by their mega knowledge.
I would like to make this a regular thing to improve my knowledge of Imprezas and so that we can get a real good group of enthusiasts together in Leeds.
Steve's car is truly awesome.Much better than my feeble ancient thing.
Good on yer chaps.

Sorry I missed this - I phone david around 9-ish as I was "making progress" up the M1 and I can't post what David said Steve and he were doing in his garage...

Regular meet sounds a good idea. Count me in. For the next 6 months or so we could probably meet up at David's garage and watch him do a little to his DIY FMIC

Nick.

Ah, you picked up on my subtle jibe then

If I start wanting more power for my car, you do realise that you and David are the scapegoats and will undoubtedly feel the wrath of my wife sometime. Be scared.

Incidentally, what *were* you two up to in the garage?

Nick.

That is the roughest i have felt in ages after having 2 pints of weak beer and 1 pint of shandy. Must have been the fumes your welder. You could have told me not to breath in whilst looking down the engine bay for any flaming of now welding areas

To everyone who has posted a big thankyou.I wont be able to make this every Wednesday but i will try and arrange something from time to time on a week night.Pity the winter is just starting but i will give you all plenty of notice.I'm off to see David's Impreza shrine some time in the week,i'm told it's a kind of garage converted into a temple to Impreza's adorned with all kinds of parts and accessories in no particular order.lol.
I need some advice about my car later but have to go now...

I subjected my car to the 0-60 test last night.I held the revs at abought 5500rpm then slipped/dropped the clutch for a maximum boost launch. It hit the limiter really quickly then i shifted to second. After the run the cabin stank of burning clutch, the clutch did not slip at all and does not now.The burning smell was still evident this morning and now the clutch is really grabby and jerky, even when the engine is warm. This is only from first to second and taking off from a standstill in first.
Have i wrecked it or is this a common problem???

clutch judder is a common problem with these... as far as I know they altered the cover plate on the later models... (think they replaced it with the p1 version)

One word of warning... These gearboxes are ****.. My syncro is shagged on second so have to change slowly

Hopefully when the 6spd box turns up it will take more abuse...

Out of curiosity (sp) did it sound like your rear diff hit the boot floor?

Think I need some stiff bushes on the rear of mine..

(never really found anybody as brutal with there car as I was with mine to ask... but 5.5k should have done it!)

Dave, It did sound as if the diff had hit the boot floor, there was a loud "clunk".I take it i havent shagged the clutch then?
I timed it as best i could and it did the 0-60 in 5 seconds dead.I have a bike lap timer which i had in the car with me.
If you want to see brutal you should come out in the work car with us later in the week.!!!!! no mechanical sympathy with a job car.
