DIY FMIC Project - condensed version ;o)
Pavlo,
marks fitted before the angle was changed and without the isc.
Its a moot point anyway as andy's has been sorted now.
jecs? personally I love it. Works better than most afterwamrkets, has all the standard features, and great idling etc. Just lack of adjustability that ruins it.

JECS RULES
Lack of adjustability means I tune my engine to suit the ECU's fixed maps
as opposed to the conventional method of tuning maps to suit the engine
Just glad Mr Jecs was a top mapper

Will do Carlos
Just as soon as I get the hol shots downloaded
The intercooler is up and running. Initial findings are that there is a substantial drop in charge temp
less pressure drop across the cooler
and more power at the top end of the rev band
using less boost pressure
however there is an increase in lag between shifts
Although I would swear by the seat o pants meter that the car is much faster, in reality the extra power is offset by the slight increase in lag. My AP22 shows my 0-100 time is now 0.2 secs slower
Attention to my dump valve set up, or rather lack of dump valve may help in this area. Removing the dump valve improved the response on the small TMIC. It may be that the increased volume of compressed air within the FMIC is having a greater effect on slowing the compressor ?
Further testing required

Thanks Carlos
I still retain a totally standard ECU but I'm considering a set of bigger injectors and a remap, David's is certainly going well
I think a remap is well overdue on my car so I'm currently discussing it with Paul (Pavlo)

Ian...Got any decent chargecoolers for sale
swap you a big FMIC !! Can't get rid of that little bit lag
Feels like I've fitted a bigger turbo which wasn't the intended result.
How you finding your car going now ?

hi andy, how was the hols mate?
my car is going very well actually. out accelerates a friends 550 maranello up till about 80ish
which is very pleasing considering the cost difference!
what i really like is the instant responce during after gear changes

have you had it on the rollers with your setup? certainly looks a very good job.
ian
tell you what i am impressed with...
when i had the old chargecooler, the water used to almost boil at some points, whereas this is just luke warm at most.

Glad your happy with the C/C set up
Think I may do a U turn and build a bigger C/C for my car to get the sharpness back
I've not had it on the rollers yet, the cooler charge air means I need more fuel
so I'm maxing out my fuel system before 1.5bar where I could previously run to 1.8
I think my thermocouple must be broken
it just doesn't seem to increase at all now !! 2-3 degrees above amb on average !

god i bet your pi55ed off now after building that fmic
was just wondering before, how have you routed the pipes from the ic? do they go under the water rad? cos on mine, under the rad there is a big sort of cross member in the way

Yea, It's just another mod that at first seems to have been a backward step although I know theory supports the move, so I'll persevere till I get a result
As you state John, the main benefit will be on track.
More fuel, more timing, more boost required

How is your wideband John ?
Ian - Hoses under rad, same route as MRT FMIC. The lowest hose retains the same ground clearance as the sump/exhaust/rear diff

AndyF,
Have you thought about modifing a charge cooler from a celica GT4 or would it be to big...???? you get a charge cooler rad and pump with them too...!? they are pretty big though....
Could you not modify one of the two FMIC's into a charge cooler..???
Dan

Pace cores are so cheap that I'd be better designing one from scratch. I've not looked at the GT4 CC in detail but from memory it's not much bigger than a Legacy unit ?
I'm going to persevere with the FMIC for now, I knew it was going to be a compromise in it's current format, it was designed with the higher flow from twin turbo's in mind..........still to do that

Will a remap e.t.c improve your lag low down..???? or is it down to the turbo and intercooler, your pipe work is still pretty good (short for a FMIC), i only say this from a basic point of view as i dont have any where near the knowlege as you lot, but when i fitted an induction kit the car seemed to lose a bit of low down grunt...??
keep us posted...!! its geart seeing these pics...!

It's not lag low down, that's still ok, it's between gears I think the turbo is spooling down. My AP22 shows that the power after a gear shift sort of tapers in instead of Bangs in like it did with the CC.
