Ian,

Have you an ETA for my kit? Booking it into Subaru for a service so they may as well fir the brakes as well.

Thanks.

Question

I'm hoping so. They fit my EBC discs and pads free of charge last time. If they dont I'll be visiting Ian but Subaru tell me there shouldn't be a problem. As anyone had problems with Subaru fitting Godspeed products?

Thumbs up

My 325mm/4 pot kit has been on for a while and it seems good, lots of stopping power (very easy to lock it all up in current conditions as I am without ABS) and repeated stops dont seem to fade them.

As other people have found, the 1144s seem to squeal alot at low braking forces. Does anyone know if anti squeal shims are available for this pad and caliper?

Cheers

I need some grooved discs that will fit AP four pots and quite quickly too, are you doing discount on them at all?

OK Ian. Time to commit you to a date I think.

Car has been off the road for a couple of weeks now awaiting the brake kit. Its going into Subaru for a service on the 3rd January and it would have been ideal if they could have been here for fitting at the same time.

You did say they would be finished on the 13th December 2002 but still waiting. I may be selling the car in the New Year so if they're going on they need to be on etc.

Can you give me a definite date? The way I'm going I'll have wasted £750.00 on brakes that I'm not going to use. I appreciate the consequence of the group buy as well as your committments, but my cheque was cashed over 3 months ago.

Thanks in advance.

A familiar story.
I paid for a kit on 18th December 2001 and have not yet received anything from Godspeed. It was for my MKII Escort, but the situation seems similar with Scooby brakes.

The last time I had a reply was 20th September 2002. My car has been off the road for over a year now.

If anyone knows how to get a response from Ian I'd appreciate the help.

Where are you Ian? Appreciate you are probably not working on Xmas Eve but I have been getting your answer machine constantly for the past couple of weeks.

Anyway...No Brakes is not providing me with any Xmas cheer. Perhaps we can get sorted per my previous response on this thread before I need to make a decision.

No Brakes. Have you spoke with Ian direct to resolve your query?

I've not been able to get past the answerphone. I left regular messages early this year but never got a reply. On 17th April this year Ian assured me that I could get a reply via email anytime. This was true until 20th September.
The story on my kit is:
I paid direct to Godspeed on 18th December - for quickest delivery soon after Xmas.
The kit was alledgedy delivered & signed for at a non existant address. Godspeed made an insurance claim & would not refund until this was sorted. Then the kit was found & became the subject of a police enquiry. I was promised a kit within 7 - 10 days on 20th September & since then I have heard nothing. I have no reason to doubt this & I don't want to deride Godspeed but the silence from them has left me with no option.
Things do go wrong from time to time, the measure of good customer service is putting things right when it does. In this instance Godspeed have fallen far short of my expectations.
I suppose it serves me right for buying from a company that does not take credit cards.

Ian - PLEASE contact me, you have the numbers.

Yep a credit card would have been a lot better.

I'm a legal manager for a large computer company. Given the amount of mail order credit card fraud over the last three years or so I can understand Ians reluctance to accept them in the first place.

Sounds like you have been really unlucky with this particular kit. Hope you get this sorted mate and I look forward to receiving a reply from Ian in the near future.

I still believe that in the end I'll get either my money back or a kit (although I've now bought some other brakes, so a kit would be wasted). This is a horrendous **** up, Godspeed must have satisfied customers out there or they wouldn't stay in business. The frustrating element is the silence.

I understand the fraud part, but this is the first & last time I pay for something before I receive it.

Fingers crossed for a reply.

Rob(RLE) Your kit has been finished over christmas , your kit was the last to make on the group buy and as you have been told there is a lot more work gone into you kit as everything is different to fit it behind your style of wheel which takes a lot longer to make than a normal kit , I have the couriers back in on monday to collect from us (because of christmas)I will find out off them monday what days over the new year they are taking off and let you know when it will be with you .

Chris Shackleton , You have mentioned about the time scale but didn't add that we have sent you a kit that was accepted by someone in your street that has turned into a police investigation for theft as they kept it , we have spoken a couple of months ago when we sent you another kit with strict instructions with the couriers to hand it over to you , no-one else , a delivery was attempted but no-one was at home to sign for it so it was taken back to the depot , as you didnt contact them for redelivery or to collect it yourself it was sent back to me , and has been here since october , I sent you an email for you to contact me to see what was happening but have not had a reply , please contact me at ian@godspeedbrakes.co.uk to finalise this order.

Dave D , Yes we did have a **** up with your order , And as I have said when you need new pads let us know and you can have a set FOC ,

We have found this year that we have let a few customers down over delivery times ,at times we have had too much work on and found ourselves running around like headless chickens trying to cope ,but we have learnt a lot and hope that the mistakes we have made we try not to make them again,
We will be expanding next year , moving into larger premises with more staff , we will be buying more machines to cope with more work as well as investing in machines to start making our own billet alloy calipers so hopfully the somtimes long deliveries will be a thing of the past.

Cheers Ian

Happy new year.

I must admit my kit took longer to arrive than expected and was missing a few bits, but Ian deffo moved pretty quickly to sort it all out. I'm wondering if your email server drops a few messages m8 cos a few of mine went astray at the beginning of the order leading to some early miscommunication between us.

I think the most worrying things are: You cash the cheque as soon as you get it, and then you can be very hard to get hold of, which can create some concerns.

As for the product though, its early days, but the only real weak point of my car has been sorted. They will take repeated high speed stops without fading and always feel powerful. The fact that you get discs, calipers, hoses and fixings for less than 700 quid delivered is remarkable when you look at the RRP for Alcon and AP kit.

And mine fitted first time without having to work on the spacers!

On a seperate note: Is it possible to take the twin pot setup Ive removed from the front of my classic JDM WRX and put them on the rear? Anyone ever done it with some fancy bracketery or will it send the balance all to ****?

Thanks for your reply Ian.

I was aware of the implications caused by the type of alloy on my car and fully expected a "reasonable" delay. I apologise if my replies on this thread have appeared critical but I guess this is the impersonal nature of e mailed correspondence.

I think it would help if people were kept informed. There's nothing more frustrating than speaking to an answer machine week after week. Just one for the suggestion box.

Anyway, I look forward to receiving confirmation of when to expect delivery and wish you a prosperous New Year.

Rob

Ian,

Thank you for the kit. It came on Thursday and looks great.

However, I took them for fitting on Saturday and the bolts that you have supplied are too short. Also I was told calliper was catching on the alloy and required spacers which I think they sorted. Does this sound right?

Anyway. Is there any chance that you could forward the correct bolts in order for me to reschedule fitting. Incidently, how much would you charge to fit them?

Thanks again.

Question

Is there a good reason for having to tap a new thread into the hub?

Could bolts not be made that use the original thread?

that's exactly what I thought before I did it! However, there are not exisiting threads in the stub axles, but existing holes through which bolts passed to be bolted into the calipers.

So the bracket that re-locates the caliper further out is bolted to the newly tapped stub axles. And then the caliper is bolted to the bracket (with the bolt going through the hole in the bracket into the threaded hole in the caliper).

On looking at it, I don't think that there was enough space to have threads in the bracket and use the bolts through the holes in the stub axles.

I was a bit wary of cutting the threads as it is a bit irreversable! However, it all worked fine.

Thanks for explaining Graham.

I understand now.

I should have a 335 kit by mid week, but I am not having any luck locating a set of second hand OEM 4 pots.

It would be appreciated if you could comment.

Godspeed catbeds !! nah it will never sell , I can't see why they are saying the bolts are too short , how much longer did they say they have to be , The length is critical otherwise the bolts touch the discs , I can supply any length of bolts you want so let me know , I can fit them for you if you want , I charge £95 with DOT 5:1 fluid , Let me know , Cheers Ian

Thanks. I'll check with them and come back to you if required. They were going to try and get some. (They being Subaru). Was down in your neck of the woods in a couple of weeks so may pop in if I'm still having difficulty.

Once again thank you for all your help.

Just to add my 2p, the bolts I got with my kit were also too short so the garage used some others that they had in stock. The bolts were probably at least 1 cm too short if not more - whether there are some calliper mountings that are wider than others I do not know.
