Boxer, your bang on with the mongoose sounds like a real powerfull car not loud, just mint, best scooby exhaust noise ive herd for the road, you dont sound like a boy racer its the nads, now ive had the bushes replaced and a ALK fitted, WOW what a diff, and they have got it to hold boost new samco,s im running it like that for a few weeks then its hks boost controller, hks fcd and afr ,also mrt knock link and mrt lamba link sensors, plus a basic turbo timer,so i can adjust and it will hold the boost i set it too plus i can keep aneye on it all with the mrt stuff, ive ordered some sti 4 pots plus 298 mm dics as well after all that change the rims from 17" to 18" but i only got it back last nite so need to save up some more, but the bill was a lot less than i thought it would be as i had the oils changed too on top of the repairs and handling kit, and ive removed the std strut brace as it partially covers the intercooler, had one fitted that goes around the back of the cooler, oh, and im after a bigger top mount cooler any one know of any that fit our cars. keep you posted ok.mark

Boxer, after your comments about exhausts, I've been looking more closely at my boost guage and it seems to reach maximum boost at about 3500 to 4000 - so seriously considering the Mongoose option.
Is it a DIY fit, or more a garage job?

It can be a DIY job, the biggest problem is removing the downpipe from the turbo. The garage that did mine spent nearly 3 hours just getting mine off, as the extreme heat tends to "weld" the nuts on. Personally, I'd rather leave it to the experts.
As for maximum boost, I wouldn't be certain that that will drop by much by de-catting, mostly it seems to need fewer revs before the turbo starts spinning, thus reducing lag. You will gain some brake horsepower, but mostly the reduction in turbo lag is the biggest gain.

If your having problems with the site, let me know - I'm in the process of setting up a new website, and could easily incorporate the STI information into it, complete with a forum, photo gallery etc etc. Let me know.

I think that's what I meant - I'm hoping that fitting the exhaust will mean that the turbo will reach full boost at a lower rpm, because it spins up more easily...
I don't want to spend £400 odd and not notice a difference though, - is the difference pretty noticeable??

yup thats what happend on mine less lag and a lot more bottom to mid range, turbo spins up a lot quicker, i fitted a mongoose, not too noisy either, just nice n powerful, also just fitted a set of radiud 18" wheels wit 225/35/18 and no rubbing, fills the arches a lot better, also seems even better on the handling but need some more time as ive done a bit over the last 2 weeks on it so need to get used to it first, p.s. any one know when the rev limiter should come in, and also does any one know their no on the ecu, mines a z20, and can def recomend the ALK.M.

Cheers Marky, I've posted a reply to the guy (had to register first, as I wasn't a member!!)
You reckon these will definitely fit though?
It's a bugger to get them over here to Guernsey....

Got the link mate - superb. Just sent an email to the owner, so hopefully get permission to use his pictures for the site.
J reg STI? Need to check that one out thoroughly as well - havent found any that were earlier that January 1994 (L-reg) so far. Hey, never know
Sorry exess - didnt realise you were on the lookout as well - if you go on ebay, some is auctioning calipers as well for £300. May be worth a shot?
Carrot - good luck with the brakes - it is pretty simple, and it does make a huge difference.
Cheers,
M-S

Ok, since we've all got the same car, I guess you guys are the best people to speak to...
I am going to go for my first performance mod, a full de-cat exhaust.
1. Should I be doing anything else at the same time, to avoid problems/damage?
2. Which system to buy? I've seen all sorts of posts on here, what have you guys gone for, and does it make a good bit of difference??
Cheers folks.

Hey folks,
Just got a mail from Stuart (owner of no. 97) and hes cool with posting the pictures on the site. So I'm pretty pleased - Stuart, if your reading this - cheers mate! Yet another one that looks mint - unfortunately Stuart is selling it, but on the other hand hes getting a Impreza STI V2 instead!!
Carrot - cant help out much on the exhaust as the one I've got came over with the car - dont know the make of it at all. Its a great mod to do, though most people would do an induction kit at the same time and most importantly get the car tuned to reflect your new mods. Exhaust is worth it just for the burble noise of the boxer itself

Marky, just been looking around some breakers for 4 Pot STi Callipers - what STi version are yours?
And what size discs?
And can i use some new 4 Pots with the original discs, then do the discs at a later date?
Cheers.

Hi mate,
The calipers I got were off a V5. However, I dont think that the version makes any difference to fitment or ability. I believe the discs are different (dont quote me though - as everyone seems to remove the 2 pots, discs and pads all at once). The discs I have are 297mm. You need appropriate pads as well remember.
Just so everyone knows the site is back on line again (finally )
