i bought it about 2 years ago. it had just come in from japan
and was unredgistered etc, it is silver (4 door saloon).
had a drive in it and had to have it
has usual STi spec - Water Spray (so no abs) pink springs, pink and silver strut brace, pink sti badge on front valance, sti badges on wings, large rear boot spoiler(like the red one), had sti exhaust, and very, very hard suspension, also vented rear discs(don't know if all wrx's etc have them.

Ah, nightmare m8! I'm lucky in that it looks like I can get it done through warranty claim - the guy said that the power steering pump, rack and reservior were all covered - but the pipes weren't. knowing my luck............
Anyway, I'm off to see a place who deal with imports in Livingston to see if they will do the work.
How come Impreza cost money and mine isn't even moving? dear'o'dear.

Well, good news/bad news scenario :-
Good news, she passed the MOT with flying colours, emissions no problems even on a de-cat car !
Bad news, it looks like the power steering tank is leaking, and I've also got an oil leak on the steering rack. Oil leak is probably the cam covers, which I knew are slightly 'weepy'. Got a trader who can get me a tank off a MY99 RB5, including the pump, for 100 notes, 50 for just the header.
So, it looks like I'm off to buy some more bits and pieces...

Hello folks,
Not to let the thread die a death. Got some stuff for the car.
I've managed to secure some 2nd hand 4-pot STi calipers, Brembo Group N+ discs and Ferodo DS2500 brake pads. So this means i should reduce the risk of rear ending another car as my 2-pots seem to keep wanting me to do (I just can't believe how naff they are). I managed to secure a set of braided hoses as well (oh, its getting better )
Awaiting arrival of a set of splash guards - quite like these little devils.
My MRO grill and badge is still sitting in the garage, awaiting my attention. But what I'm going to do is take off the skirts and rear bumper skirts as well - then get them colour coded by a professional. i dont trust myself not to make a good job - so to the bodyshop for them.
I've got till March to do all this, so I'm going to do it steadily and make sure its done right. By March I should be free of christmas and my hols in bendidorm in February - then its only insurance and tax, then away i go again.
My power steering is still gubbed unfortunately, so that'll get done with the brakes.
After that its window tinting. In all its looking promising.
Now I've got a seat fetish for those lovely race spec black bucket seats with the headrest that reaches round the side of your head.
Still nothing from STi - maybe I should use babblefish and write to them in japanese - sure to give them a laugh atleast.
Take care guys,
Marky-San

Glad to hear the plans are still ongoing ! Been spending money on fixing things lately, later model power steering pump and resovouir (sp) to fix a leak, and I've noticed the rocker gaskets are weeping oil onto the engine block, so there goes £200 in gaskets alone ! Still, engines pulling like a train, future plans include an Apexi Power FC or a homebrew re-map, upgraded AVO intercooler (can't decide between TMIC or FMIC), as well as getting one of Simons diagnostic display units fitted ( see HERE for details, we'll be selling these by the way ! ). Also planning on some AVO 550cc injectors, and probably later in the year start considering a hybrid turbo of some kind.
Once all the maintenance work has been done, going to be filling the car with all sorts of gauges, dials etc etc, so I can see what the engines doing.
Marks, as far as STI are concerned, I'd be suprised if they ever get back to you. They won't even sell their products outside of Japan (although I have a certain contact ... )
Keep the flag flying, guys.

Alright Paul,
You are definately a few generations up in the modding bug scale than I am. Splashguards and fog light covers (managed to source some GRP copies - just for a frontal change now and then) are about as technical as I go LOL!
Good to see the amount of work your putting into the car - it must go like a train with all that work
The guy who asked for info on the early STi's thread - did you notice that one bloke said someone has No1!!! Need to try and track so of these folks down. No1 is mighty special - dont know its from the 100 or the 200 run. doesnt matter really is still a No1 for something.
Paul - I've got to fit some STi 4 pots etc. and was wondering if there is anything I need to do extra i.e. brackets etc. or do they fit straight on? Dont want to find out when the cars in bits and pieces, if you know what I mean.
Keep up the good work Paul

Four pots should fit on with no extra's needed, mine came off a P1 and bolted straight on. I also fitted stainless steel hoses, DOT5.1 brake fluid and Mintex pads. Pads are great, very dirty and a bit squeaky when new, but have never failed to stop me when I needed them to !
Mod's sholuld be happening in the New Year, got to sort the weaping gaskets first, as I'm getting the occasional puff of burnt oil off the engine block now !
Merry Xmas t'all !

Alright excesspeed,
120K, so 80,000 miles roughly. Thats about 20K thousand more than mine.
I'd say 7K for the car (double checking that everything is sound - looks to be an excellent buy!!). I bought mine privately for a considerable amount more. One I did see was number 66 of 100 going for 11K or 12K from a dealer (m-reg), same spec similar mileage - looked smart.
Maybe some of the other guys might be able to add their opinions - Esoteric beast and Paul would be good bets. Paul has had his car for a couple of years and seems to know it inside out - Esoteric bought his car around the same time as myself, and loves it to bits (not literally off course )
Does the car look the same as those posted earlier in this thread?

As ever, pricing early classic Subaru's is a difficult one. In theory, the STI 1's should carry a premium over the standard WRX, but it all boils down to wether the buyer and seller appreciate the differences between them. My own model, bought 2 years ago, in theory cost me £9K with 80,000KMS on it (although it actually only cost me £6K, long story ! ). I've now reached 140,000KMS on it, and frankly I've got no idea what it would sell for.
The best way to decide is, check what work has been done on it (should be at least 1 timing belt change done, if not GET IT DONE NOW ! ), and examine the car for any accident damage. I would ask the garage if they could steam clean the engine bay, and the take it out for a drive : if there's a fluid leak anywhere, it will be difficuly to spot with all the crap under there. I should know, I've just had mine done !
As ever, the phrase "Buyer Beware" should be foremost. If your not sure, walk away. These car's are reliable, as long as they're looked after well : I've probably spent £2K over 2 years just in repairs/preventative maintenance, and as it gets older, it will need some TLC.

Hi to all
Boxer, I have a leaky cam cover as well and the local dealer says that they are unable to identify which set of gaskets (STI 1, No 197) the car needs. They are 22 miles away and I have no transport to get there if the car is not running. Of course they are unable to do the job for me. I wonder if anyone can help me with the correct part no. for the right hand cam cover set. Also if you say £200 for the gaskets that is v pricey but maybe that included labour.
Well done Marky on getting the 4 pots-will they go under 16 " wheels?
Happy Christmas and New Year

Hi Leslie,
Yes 4 pots will go under 16's. I've 17's - but because they are anthracite it hides their size unfortunately.
Dont know the part number for the gasket set, although I think Paul should be our technical expert on ltd ed's? What d'you say Paul
Hmmm.......Excesspeed - do we have another to add yet?? Come on, spill the beans mate
The no.1 car is off the 555 edition, and the chap already posted ealier in the thread. There was me getting excited about no.1 Nevermind, there plenty of other number to catch up with.
I've taken the advice above and starting to collate information on these cars - maybe a register as suggested? Cool idea. I have some ideas which I'll share with you all in the very very near future. I think gathering info should cover the '100 ltd ed', and the '200 ltd ed' - if no one else has started collating this info? Unless anyone knows any better Or are there any other 'runs' out there? I know the 555 ltd ed is very well covered.
Well better go as I've got turkey for breakie, turkey for lunch and ****** for tea knowing my luck - LOL!!

The 4-pots will go under most 16" wheels, but not all since it depends on the design (even some 17s don't go with them). So best to check before fitting. Any 16" or bigger wheels off a late UK or 95> STi will work since these are fitted with 4-pots as standard.
PS Mark if you need a hand with the brakes give me a shout sometime, I've done new discs, pads and braided hoses all round on mine so have had some practice! The 4-pots will bolt straight onto the existing mounts on the knuckles, only problem will be that all the bolts are guaranteed to be seized . Certainly mine were, it took about 8 hours and 10 skint knuckles to do the lot!
PPS If you're changing the grille and badge, do you have a pink "i" you could sell me?
Cheers
Paul.

Hello folks,
Weird one, had to ask the mods to remove a tasty lady picture that appeared in Esoterics page 2 posting of his car. Unfortunately the mods have removed the entire post, however the updated pics are on the site...so no worries.
Few more things added to the site. I've added a 'Guest register' on 'rearview mirror' page - so fingers crossed it works. 13 details and plaque piccy. May need to rebalance the pages alittle, but not yet
Hi Leslie, apologies - got your mail and I'm checking the calendar out to see if it may indeed be possible.
Would definately love to meet some of you guys and see your cars - what a meet that would be The originals back together. Cool.
I will reply to everyone probably this weekend - work is still priority so any updates are being done when I should be sleeping.....we've all done the 'totally knackered and should be in bed, but then you put on the telly and watch a 2 hour film and you know you shouldn't be watching it because you'll regret it in the morning' scenario LOL!!
TC,
MS
