Caz:I think what David was saying was to turn the engine over on the starter without firing until good oil pressure is achieved so that the turbo bearings do not run dry during the initial start up.

No paste before the turbo, maybe between the gasket and the downpipe (if it isn't 100% flat), but use *proper* stuff that'll take the heat...

Well Jon, its a piece of p!ss to change out. My only problem well not a problem but just a time consuming difficulty was my exhaust downpipe isn't flanged to the centre section, its a slip on fitting, so I ended up having to remove the whole exhaust to take off the downpipe. All my turbo bolts were easy to do.

One hint thats not been mentioned yet, remove the 2 bolt clamp from the exhaust manifold (3 bolt one) to engine block as this gets in the way to slacken the banjobolt for the oil pipe. I also found it helpful to remove the oil pipe on the top as well. I never lost a copper washer either I completed the whole job doing it myself in 6 hours. It would have been done in 3.5 - 4 hrs had it not been for the exhaust, it was a nightmare to remove.

You only require 2 gaskets, a 3 bolt gasket from exhaust manifold to turbo & the 5 bolt turbo to downpipe. I fitted these dry as mentioned above, perfect seal. Be prepared for some smoke when you complete the job and you run the car up.

Thanks to Trout for the crank sensor tip, it worked a treat.

Thanks guys.

BTW - Replacing the turbo cured my problem so I'm gonna sit down tonight and have a beer.
