That PC comparison majorly sucks ***. Absolute load of rubbish, remember, it is sponsored by INTEL, so to standard 'chump' users, that have not upgraded their PC's in years, this really gets them thinking. In my job, I get at least 3 people a month who are shocked at how much PC speed and functionality has increased since thay bought their Packard Bell p166 in 1996..... That is why it is there, intel are doing their bit to stir the consumer 'pot' They are not benchmarking your machine, merely dividing raw numbers........ , cheeky buggers! They will get this prog out to a huge range of people and money will be made.

Yes, to the question of not connecting, but not nearly as bad as yours and no crashing. Running 5.5+, so maybe part of it.......

Intel, ya gotta love 'em

Athlons rock for this type of task Steve. In my lineup I have a 1100, a 1000 and a 700. Beats the *** off the Pentiums I have.

you should all come over to the i-chat group where we use quality not quantity

Yup, the AMD's do seem to kick it with this software. My Duron 800@1030 is whipping everything else that I have.....

I have an Athlon which I'm sure gets negative points

Every little bit helps as mentioned above.

The UD site does run a bit slow at times. It is probably due to the amount of traffic/hits it is getting at the moment. I am running IE5.5 and apart from it being a bit slow no other problems.

One point about the UD software and the way it works. It compares drug molecules against the protein target. There are 100 sets of molecules and each set has 100 subsets, named something like DRUG#1234-67 where 67 is the 67th subset. As it tries to match each one of the subsets you then get the conformer count rising. Think of this as the amount of permutations it can find to attatch the current drug molecule to the protein. There can be anything from zero to over a 100 million combinations. The highest I have seen is just over 421 million conformers. This can give the illusion the program has hung if you are not watching the molecule screen with the conformers counting up.

The same screen gives a record of hits (how many possible matches) it can find. It is these which get sent back for further analysis when the program has finished.

Regards

Steve

would love to join up but can't as UD does not (yet) have a macintosh client. Guess I could run the PC version on our WinNT servers, though the rest of the team might get upset about that.

Rest assured that as soon as there is a macintosh client I'll sign up and get processing.

Thanks to members of :-

Scoobynet
i-Club
Dutch Subaru Club
and IWOC

we have now cracked just over 100 team members!

Other stats...

560 results returned
A total of 1 year 50 days 23 hours of processing time donated by those running the program.

We have also got the Impreza Team onto the front page of teams taking part.

Steve,
In order to help identify members, on the UD website, a tad easier... I suggested to my members to include (iClub) in front of their name so we know how many are from each website. Maybe you could do the same here.

Plus it adds a little healthy competition to get things stirred up and get people interested in doing this. We just need more people to join in this fight.

I'm in. Question. On a dual processor system, see both CPUs at 50% and 50% idle. Is there a way to get a second version running and thus use up the idle time?

It is/should be using both the cpu's. To check, just right click on ud101.exe task and look at set affinity. Should have both cpu0 and 1 ticked. You can also right click and select set priority. You can bump it up to high, in theory will use a little bit more power. DO NOT set it to realtime, as it will completely lock out the GUI. My server hare at home is dual, but will not use over 54% on average. This is normal. SMP is not all that efficient and the programs have to be optimized as well to really use SMP efficiently. Even then, there is not all that much difference.
The ud101.exe shuts down while it is submitting the info to the server, kicks off ud.exe and then comes back again with low priority, I think, haven't paid much attention to it, just thought that I saw that once.....

Cheers,

Nick

Steve B - you ought to mail Autocar/Evo etc with the sucess of this team. To be one of the biggest teams in the world on a project as well publicised as this says a lot about how wonderful us Impreza owners are!

Quick update.

164 members
1353 packets of data processed
2 years 258 days 9 hours 1 min 51 secs of processing power donated by the team as of 1am this morning.

Thanks to everyone involved, especially i-Club who have had a really big push on this. Their equivalent thread on their side of the Atlantic goes to FIVE pages and 115 replies. So in the name of competative spirit lets show them Scoobynet is the best BBS and if you have not signed up yet DO SO NOW! I mean, they have only just got the turbo version of the Impreza!!!

I would also like to invite any company who visits this BBS to also sign up and give their support and use their company name. Imagine the free advertising with the captured audience as team members scan through the list trying to find their own placing.

Steve
ps to differentiate Scoobynetters to i-Clubbers anyone got a good short neat suggestion to use to tag a Scoobynet member on the team member list? For IWOC and i-Club its easy.

I welcome the competition Mr Footlong !

It's just nice to be able to contribute to a good cause. Shame the Client isn't SMP capable as two of my machines are 4x SMP's.
