FAO: Prodrive RE: STI7 PPP
The other question to ask is, "what percentage of Subaru UK's sales are made up by STIs?"
And then "how many want the PPP?"
See why this might not be Subaru UK's number one priority?
This is also a very high profile modification to what is undoubtedly the flagship of their range. The one thing all this attention has done is make damn sure that they can't afford to get it wrong. My guess is that Subaru UK are dragging their feet on signoff rather than anything else, but that's pure speculation on my part.
This BBS really loves a scandal. Remember the hunt for blown up P1s? The hunt for blown up STI type UKs?
What would be more damaging. A delayed release of the PPP, or cars blowing up, or underperforming, or eating gearboxes, or...
A business decision has been made by people who are probably better informed.
The disconnect has come when dealers want to be seen to be responsive and jump the gun? Or the time of release has changed?
We can argue this, and jump up and down until we all feel better, but ultimately there's a process that is being followed and we won't be able to short circuit it.
IMHO.

yes, it does look like exactly what we're asking for
I'm not complaining about the length of the development cycle for the PPP, however surely it must be shortly than the development cycle of the car itself, which Prodrive were obviously privy to because of the Prodrive version of the car. So why is the PPP almost 9 months behind the car? All I can assume is IM didn't want to contract Prodrive to develop the PPP until they knew the car would sell.
The other point of course is money grabbing dealers shouldn't be so anxious to take orders for a product they don't have yet or giving out figures picked out of the air at random.

The prodrive version of the car involved putting a bumper, side skirts and a spoiler onto it.
Even with my limited mechanical knowledge, I'll put my neck out and say that that's very unlikely to cause engine failure.
Changing the breathing of the engine and the map that it's running to extract more power will, by definition, mean the engine and all points in the drivetrain is under more stress than standard. There's the cost of a 3 year 60k warranty to consider...

I agree it had to be tested properly.
I just hope it sounds as well as it should go.
Would like it to be louder than a normal PPP on my UK300.
I want it now
( sorry but I am impatient when it comes to tuning my car )

Thanks, Dave T-S and others for an injection of good sense!!
Dave... Have you a feel for whether the PPP will make the road-sensitivity worse for OEM STis on 17"/RE040s?? Mine still squirms a bit when I'd rather it didn't
£1500 extra for 18" wheels ain't on at the moment....

I'm not saying prodrive did anything mechanical to the car and if you thought I said that you're reading between the lines
, the prodrive version is obviously only visual changes, what I am saying is Prodrive and I assume IM would have had access to cars long before they went on sale that they could have started developing the PPP with.
I also said I understand their position of wanting to make sure the car would sell well before incurring the expense of contracting prodrive to develop the pack for a car that may well have not sold that well.
I'm not directing any criticism at IM or Prodrive, the only people I've complained about thus far is dealers taking orders and giving out numbers when they really weren't in a position to do so imo.
I'm actually quite happy, we have some figures, which seem to be what I wanted to hear and we have a firm(ish?) release date.

Phil, toyo's make a huge difference, as does juggling with the tyre pressures, Dave T-S will be able to tell you what he uses on his 17"s. I have 18"s, Eibach variable (drops the ride height 22mm front 20mm at rear) rate springs, and a thicker anti - roll bar on mine, as Dave T-S will hopefully confirm mine is very comfortable, and not fidgety or jiggly at all.
the rest of you guys, don't jump up and down when PPP isn't fitted to your car 01/10, I think that 01/11 might be a more meaningful time scale.

I'd agree with John Griff. His car has much better roadholding than mine (for now
) which is part due to the Toyos. Stick with 17's to save money, but change to Toyos or GY F1's (or even S03's).

Assuming your PPP is being fitted at your dealer, it depends on the dealer. For a BB only, they will probably just swop it for you.
Re Paris show, no, got a big barbecue party same day

When I spoke to IM about the graph on the web site and told them it was illegible and to fax me the real thing - the guy went off to have a word with their IT department to get it fixed - so probably back up soon.

Sammy,
There was rumour (again) when I asked about PPP for the MY99 that Prodrive only fitted to "Standard" cars
probably meant.. Induction kit, downpipe chipped eTc.
I just thought I'd ask the question
and save me 20 mins changing it

Dave,
No I meant Birmingham Motor Show. Hope this is a barby to celibrate the house sale

It's not the delay about the PPP, its the bloody secrecy, is it too much to be given an update every 6 weeks or so ?!!?
Of course we appreciate that research and development can't happen overnight, but keeping potential customers informed and maybe a little insight into the testing procedures used isn't too much to ask is it ?
And where are the F**CKING SPRINGS !!!

Name down at dealers today for PPP, will be november time after the people in front of me get theirs, but my bank manager won't moan
As it happens I'm going to the british motor show on the first friday, no doubt see many shiny toys I want and can't afford and perhaps the illusive MY03

Dealers are not supposed to fit a PPP if there are any non OEM exhaust bits fitted to the car - but would probably turn a blind eye to a BB.
Re the BBQ - if we invited everyone we knew on here it would be a rather large car park required!
The move finally went ok thanks - moved in torrential rain Monday, been fine every day since!
Tony
Yep, as above, dealers were not supposed to fit PPP to cars with non std exhausts.
BBQ is house warming/having sold the old one so only bridging for 14 days celebration!
Big Goon
You will hate me for saying this, but springs are supposed to be released at the same time as the PPP
