Ozzy, I am not fat arsed and neither am I an accountant, otherwise I wouldn't have bought a blooming gas guzzling WRX shooting brake that looses value like a lead balloon would fall from the sky. Each to their own my boy.......Blutes

JF, just a detail, but for the record ...
Yeah, we did ! About a month, maybe a few weeks more, before the official launch, some Dutch guys took pictures of a very strange car in the Furka pass in Switserland. In the end, they appeared to be totally genuine, as Subaru was doing a photoshoot there for a brochure.
I'll refrain from saying what I thought when I saw those pics.![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Anyway, you can look it up on I-Club, as the pic was posted there (by me) long before the launch, as it was on here by others.
That said, the Photoshop crap is starting to really ennoy me. Also love it when people still comment about "the lights" when 10 posts above it was already established the picture is a fake
did we have any acurate photos before the fugly was launched? no!

Dear Mr Felstead ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
I would beg to differ about the pix. There WERE pix of the WRX
Autoexpress ran wholly accurate spy shots a WR blue WRX the same week Autocar ran the dodgy leaked pix of the red WRX with '98 wheels.
I should know, I acted as agent for the sale of them to Autoexpress, and they were what finally convinced me to get a P1.

uxg - re: customer research on the Audi A2. Several years back I was part of a customer research group made up of members of Joe Public who were flown out to Hamburg. After getting seriously pissed the night before we had to fill in loads of surveys about various VAG models including the first A2 mock ups, they didn't even have interiors.
Had to be sworn to secrecy, that we wouldn't talk to any magazines etc. No cameras allowed obviously![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
They had the Lupo there (never before seen) and a Merc A Class, Golf and Renault Megane Scenic as comparisons. Not hot stuff![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
The general consensus was people prefered the Megane and hated the A2, cue lots of of puzzled expressions on the Audi bods.
On my form I said the A2 reminded me of "an early WW2 panzer or armoured personnel carrier".
Back on topic, I like the evo photoshopped picture a bit more. Imprezas may be bought mainly on driving ability, but there is no need to make them disgustingly ugly. I guess we'll know from the Paris motorshow exactly what it'll look like. Will the WRX get a bigger wing? You'd think its just for the STi but then they stuffed one on the awesome 125bhp GX Sport the other week.

Turboboost. Very interesting post.
So what your saying is they do market research and then totally ignore what everyone says. That figures. I wonder if they did the same for the bug eye Scoob and then sat around looking puzzled when the people wrote things like "it look's crap" and "it looks like a startled owl" on the forms![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
I would have been a lot more how can I put it, derogatory about the A2 I think on the form. The term "pile of S**t" springs to mind![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
I think the problem might be that sometimes they let all these arty farty types design cars who want to make the car look like a modern work of art which they can hang in a gallery so that all the other arty fartys can go "ooohh look, aren't they clever"
They should let me design the next Subaru. If you think a Skyline looks hard, the creation I would come up with would have it cowering in the corner.

(only joking as I can't draw for ****)

Well at least that is a real car and not somebody's idea of what it might look like using photoshop.
In fact one dealer said is the MY03 looked like that they wouldn't be able to get them in fast enough!

I would of course be completely destroyed after spending all that money to have thousands of standard cars in the same styling!![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Maybe I should work in the Subaru design team though!

Yes but to add wheels, wing, morettes, lowering etc. would push the price up to £25k+ and Subaru would sell less than the cheaper uglier (in some opinions) current car. Not necessarily the best commercial decision, especially if you have a nice little business supplying the wheels, wing, morettes, lowering etc. as accesories.
Personally I prefer to have the choice to add either tarty bits (wheels, wing etc.) or functional bits (gauges, brakes, exhaust) to my own spec, budget and timescale.

I doubt Subaru would actually pay the prices we do.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Could you imagine the people at Morette, C-West and Ociari giggling with glee when the order for a few million bits of their kit came through.
I agree though the tarting is a personal thing and the changes we make are (I hope) carefully thought out. It took me a long time to decide on a body kit that I liked and wanted to have fixed to the car.
Saying that though relatively simple plastic changes has made my MY01 loose the soft (IMO) look of the original.

uxg, the A2 bodywork was at such an advanced stage there wasn't much turning back for them. Perhaps if they'd have shown people at the CAD stage.
But some European countries may prefer the different utilitarian design of the A2, and think it "cool". Not France, Belgium or Poland though![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

MATTeL:
They don't pass the saving on though when they sell the items as accessories and so the markup is very profitable
Like you can't get different wheels fitted at new and get a refund on the OEM ones
.
I doubt Subaru would actually pay the prices we do.

Given that the Autocar picture of the Sport, and the advertising locally for the new non-turbo models show the same picture - i.e. current shape with high spoiler and colour co-ordinated Morettes, I'd say MATTeL may be too close to the truth to be funny. Subaru are hardly going to invest in multiple new panels after such a short time, so they're going to have to go for a short term 'fix'. Making Morettes standard fills the bill IMHO......
