The warranty on Euro imports varies from 1 year to 3 years depending on the country of origin.
According to your service book, your car only has a 1 year warranty.
I would advise you to check the warranty with the importer you purchsed the car from.
Would you like to come on our track day at Croft on the 5th October.
Cheers

Ian,
I have to say 'good on ya' for asking the question.
I have only had MY99 DBM since July, so far no problems to report on the dealership part of things..... apart from one, when I bought the car it was sold with FSSH a checked the service book and was delighted to see a row of stamps
however after having the car for a week or so I was reading through the manual etc and I looked at the service book again this time reaing it cover to cover.... I descovered at the back is the bodywork warrenty section non of which were stamped, I notified the dealer and he said that he would see what he could do....
2 months later..... still nothing. I think I'm going to have to send the boys around....

Hail-hail
VERY interested to hear you have had a bad time with them as well.
When we wanted to try a 3-series coupe there was NO enthusiasm from them to help us. They never returned any calls and were generally not bothered.
When we went for a test drive of the Mini the sales rep constantly kept forgetting what cars we had and only allowed us to drive it around the town centre under 40mph!!!!
A Jaguar salesman who was sorting out my father's test drive 5 years ago managed to remember me and what car I had 2 months ago.
The result? - An Impreza and a Smart on the driveway.

The body service section of the warranty book are very rarely completed as the majority of dealers do not fully explain what is involved.
Failure to have this completed will invalidate the 6 year anti-corrosion side of your Subaru warranty, but will not effect the mechanical 3 year warranty.
If its any consolation we have had the Subaru franchise since 1996 and have never had a anti-corrosion warranty claim.

Hi Ian
Thanks for the mail, I was going to drop by this week to let you have a look at the scoob and get the plates changed. The weather has been so cr@p that I thought it would be unfair to have a technician get pi$$ wt through looking at the car. I'll be in next week.
Did you photocopy my service book re warranty?.
Thanks for the info about track days..sorry to have to disappoint everybody but I don't want to thrash the nuts of the car. We all buy cars for different reasons and I bought mine because I thought it looked so cool / ugly / mean / cool / could outrun most road cars / it would stop me driving fast / etc that I wanted to drive one.
Having said that it would be nice to go, please don't laugh as my other car's a Picasso (and MR2)
Back to the original thread…Those who can do (and post on scoobynet) and those can't lose customers. The service I have had in Carlisle has been great..not only from Subaru but also from Toyota (David Richardson at border toyota has been a gem).

im a fan of stan palmers too went to his competitor 2.5 years ago with the attention of buying a new car woulding gave me a test drive :cos they were too busy: woulding let me even sit in a one because it was sold ! eventually they gave me a brochure .they looked down at me in my jeans and trainers what else do you ware when testing cars??i gave them my details and said i was looking for a newish turbo wagon they never even rang me to try to sell me one despite having a suitable one in a month later! a terrible buying experience. i train sales and customer care for a living so know how to look after a customer. i went into stan palmers i had been in earlier he gave me the keys to a demo and i took it for a run one hour later the deal was done ,2 days later a new wagon was on my drive and i love it. 20K is a lot of money to me the local BMW and merc garage seem to have such a snobbish attitude to any one under 50 who doesnt ware a suit and tie to have such entuastic staff make such a difference to getting a sale or not. i will be sticking to scoobs unless stan palmers start sellin EVOS !
NO Subaru dealer in the country is worth a ***k they are ALL ****e!
SUBARU UK, Subaru Warranties, you are all crap!!!!!!!! Stick you service and your dealerships up your back passage.

My perspective:
It seems from this thread in general that the majority of service departments are fairly good, but most dealers are let down by rude, arrogant or greedy salesmen.
This is also my observation. My wife is a consultant for several dealers (non scoob). She used to work in a new dealer that was focused on customer care where everyone, including non sales customers had to be friendly and helpful to any prospective customers. This approach paid off because most of there custom is repeat business, even in the short term.
She has now moved on to another dealer and she has noted that the salesmen are rude, arrogant and basically ignoring customers. They are not even all that good at selling due to their lack of interest in customers. Guess what LITTLE REPEAT BUSINESS.
Basically the dealer as a whole (including the sales team) should view themselves as providing a service, not simply as car sellers. Dont hire the type of guys that are going to look down, or be rude to someone due to their dress, or the car they drive up in! I have known the scruffiest of customers to spend tens of thousands on several cars because the dealer was friendly and they were happy with the whole package.
On a different subject, It is a shame that IM have such neanderthal attitudes to warranty and grey imports. It would be good for IM to listen to their dealers.

It would also be very good if IM listened to US aswell because without us there would be no IM, they don't give a Shlt. I and some else on this BBS have letters from them to prove it! I am totally pi55ed off with the whole Subaru UK crap and the dealer who I got my car from are just diabolical when it comes to any kind of custmer relations. I have given up on them and will slate them every opportunity I get.(this thread excepted)
X2WRX, how would you do a warranty claim with a non standard exhaust on the car knowing the warranty man was coming. Would you get the original back on before they came or would you say nothing? Lets say you fitted the exhaust as well.
I'd like to know what you would do as I know someone is having this problem now.

In my opinion, the dealers are OK, it's IM who are making the dealers life difficult thanks to their attitude towards Euro and Grey Imports, track days and modifications.
Come the end of block exemption when delaers can source their cars from where they like,IM's attitude must change otherwise they will disappear.

Hi Ian AKA Stan Palmer
Looks like you have been popular tonight (see other posts).
Looked at the Subaru Website just now and see that "Morettes" are now a genuine Subaru Product, if mine go wrong am I covered?
More importantly I was standing at your counter the other day and saw a menu type card saying "WRX 40 BHP more for £500" as well as other BHP gains for other cars.
Is this a genuine Subaru enhancement??
Midlife.....

Midlife,
Which posts are you refering to about us being popular?
The Morettes have always been covered by a 3 year warranty if fitted by a subaru dealer.
The performance upgrade is not an official Subaru conversion, we have developed it in conjuction with an ex Prodrive technician.
The conversion carries a 12mth warranty.
Works best with Prodrive exhaust, we have had one on a rolling road at 274bhp.

Did you invalidate the warranty of this car then? ( By putting it on the rollers)?
I am sure the warranty people would like to know what happening to the cars they cover whilst in the care of Subaru dealers!!!

Hi Ian
270+ BHP.....
WELL INTERESTED !!
I'm about a twenty minute walk away and will pop in tomorrow (work permitting). I have a Magnex exhaust which I guess would be about similar (I am new to the game having got a Scooby for the first time in July)
Interested about the IM warranty issue, seriously valid point from "alanjack".
Cheers

iv been looking 4 my new car now 4 a few months & so iv visted lots of dealers most of which have been unhelpful .it seems they want you to buy before you try , with one exception bell & coville at west horsley .they even advised me not to buy a new sti because of the reskin, told me id be wasting my money, they seem more than willing to take you out for test drives & dont talk down to women (like he ought to say's the old man). they have now found me the car iv been looking 4 & even offered to bring it round to my house to test . i hope the after sale's service is as good as the sale
MLCS: my MY02 sourced from Belgium has a service booklet that states one year warranty for "General". However there was also a blue sheet of paper (Supplementary Warranty Regulations) stating
that the warranty was actually for three years (Belgium cars post 19/12/01). I have registered with Subaru UK and received a confirmation letter.

Yes technically the Subaru UK warranty is invalid, and yes we do make all customers aware of this. We do supply a 12th warranty which is extendable.
This conversion was developed as a solution to customers compaining the new Impreza was slower than their current one, but could not afford the Prodrive conversion @ £1600
The total cost is £550 plus Prodrive exhaust @ £375 which is considerably cheaper and produces a higher power increase.
To date we have no warranty issues regarding this conversion and have been using it for over 2 years.
Hope this clarifies our position.

I have a few questions on the performance pack you offer...
1. When you say Prodrive exhaust, is that just a back-box or other components?
2. Do you have a demonstrator with the pack fitted?
3. Are you bringing the above demonstrator to Croft?

Errmmmm...why do I dislike my subaru Dealer?
1. Main reason is Piston Slap - Customer service during and after this problem (which was handled with the dexterity of a one year old) was like getting blood from a stone.....and when it came you had to get a microscope to find it.
2. "One rule for one and one for another"....i.e. clutch judder - mine has it, and from reading the posts on SN I reckon it'll be like the battle of hastings trying to get it replaced.....
thats about it...

Why has this thread gone off topic? Why do you hate Subaru Dealers?
I asked if a warranty would be invalidated by a Dealership actions and this HAS proved to be the case. Where would you stand if a dealer invalidated your warranty and you were unaware this had happened and then the warranty company said NO WAY your car has been modified or on the rollers etc.. due to your dealership and they never said Jack!
Answers please!!!
