I fitted my new pump this morning to my MY00. I did not notice at first, but the pic above confirms it, the fuel outlet pipe and the elecrical connection on the new pump are on oposite sides, compared to the old pump. This means that if you mount the new pump the same way round as the old, ie with the fuel outlet on the "outside" and the electical connection towards the middle, the fuel pipe on the frame is in the wrong place! In order to line up the two pipes you have to rotate the pump through 108 degrees, which results in the rubber mounting bit below the pump not fitting. I fitted my new pump the same way as the old, dumped the bottom rubber mount, and made a new one out of rubber tube, then held the whole lot in place with a cable tie.

You have the physically larger pump I suspect? The oem item that is the same size as the Walbro allows a direct swap using the oem filter, the other way around the problem is to use a short extension with the new filter so that it sits in the same position as the original but make sure the connections are good and secure and that the OEM filter is clean.

Yes, it was a Walbro pump, and it was slightly larger than the one that I took out. Fitting the filter was not the problem, although I dont think its in exactly the same position in the tank as before, it was just that I could not line up the fuel outlet pipe and the pipe on the pump housing.
I guess by fitting an extension to the filter I could have done that, doh! Is the exact position of the filter critical?

If you find that the Walbro pump sits in a different position, don't worry, it won't cause a problem. This has been checked on several cars, some running in excess of 340bhp.

IF people "choose" to use their original filter, PLEASE make sure the old filter is METICULOUSLY cleaned before fitting.

OFFICIALLY, fitting the old filter VOIDS the WARRANTY.

However, if anyone does incur a problem, I will address it.

Mark.

Tony,

I sell the up rated Walbro kit. This can flow 255lt's ph, and is good for 450bhp +.

If you look through the various "fuel pump" threads, you'll get a good idea of the type of people using the pump, and their opinions.

Now, just incase one or two of the bbs "police" decide to give me a hard time for making this very tame post, I have already arranged with SDB for a banner ad'.

Fitted my pump yesterday, this morning leaving for work the car did feel noticably smoother, also the dreaded hesitation when cold was totally gone! very pleased with the result!
