But Trout, I'd need to give you a 5 second start to build boost

Yes the turbo is the standard (original) TD05 with the 90 degree inlet bend 'hacksawed' off and a straight pipe inserted under the manifold to give a front feed.

It will hold 1.5 bar at 6k no problem, in fact I had a problem getting it low enough for a recent track day where I only ran at 1.3 bar (peak and held)
Speak to Pat, he considers they are good for 400 bhp with front entry

Any of you guys going to the October (or is it November?) Elvington ?

Andy,

Have you got a graph of the run, I'd love to see it.

Andy, as a total expert on Elvington (read: I've been there once, last month ): bring a set of spare tyres if it's a normal track day

Mark

Your sources are letting you down Alan G lifted a copy along with high quality digi pics of every inch of my engine bay including the compressor inlet showing my chipped compressor wheel

I'll go scan and upload a copy to attach.

You will notice a 'notch' in the torque/power just as it comes on full boost. The slow run up speed on the rollers causes excess richness as I have an injector triggered by a 20 psi pressure switch.
On the road/track, the engine spins up much quicker and this glitch disappears.

I think they are using the main tarmac runway this time, so not sure if it will be as hard on the tyres. I also think its just drag runs.

The transmission losses seem very low??? Power seems to peak at a quite low 6300rpm, especially for an engine with a limiter at just over 8000. Does the car rev??? The one a mate had a few years ago, although completely standard, loved to rev, pulling 8000 easily in most gears ( until the speed liiter ) Sadly the car only lasted a week before an articulated lorry re-sculptured the rear end.

Steve, It's not an STi, just an Ra ! I painted the manifold when I had it off

The RR operator shuts them down as soon as max power is achieved which I must admit is fine by me, I hate hearing it held for so long at high boost.

If you add the temperature compensation then losses are not that low @ 86 bhp
The car is also very light which will help reduce tyre losses i guess

Yea, I know its an RA, so was me mates. It was a red MY93 RA, had it for 4 days I think ( about 4 years ago ) then got rear ended by a fully loaded 18 wheeler. Sent us 300 yds up the road. Lucky for us there was a roll cage in the car, or we would have been squished

Cheers Andy.

JB's car has a great set-up and once the new year comes (with some more disposable income hopefully!) I'm going to making some changes

Interesting that the standard turbo can do the job with a little modification. JB's car was great but nothing until 4000 takes a bit of getting used to.

Note the difference between a TD04 and a TD05 though Richard. You would need to change your turbo on your model year to get big power.

Andy,

some of us have standard turbo's that are not as well blessed as yours

Quote: "But Trout, I'd need to give you a 5 second start to build boost"...

...cheeky sod I mean it wouldn't be so cheeky of your peak torque was 3,900rpm or something - at 4,600 it is probably same as mine

Still - very, very impressive - wanna come and work on my car

Well done Andy!

Top result. I'll second the praise for the old TD05, mine runs 1.5 bar too right to the redline no probs. Although I'm not yet up to these kind of figures....not yet....

Interested in that rerouting of the turbo inlet, as I've just got an FMIC and the pipework is a bit tight around my air inlet. Routing it through the manifold like you have done would solve a lot of probs. Could I be cheeky and ask you to mail me with how exactly you did it?

Cheers Rich

John - of course not thinking straight this morning

Slight difference in a Jap RA and a UK turbo!

Rich

I posted some pics on scoobynet some time ago, think they may be in the middle of the DIY FMIC thread somewhere ?

Trout

Yea, I need to work on that torque dip but +300 lb-ft from 3700 isn't too bad really
Pavlo may have the answer to the 'dip' apparently the std ECU momentarily pulls the timing to 0 degrees if it registers a very high air flow peak in the midrange ! It also backs off timing big style after 6k !
Admittedly it is a bit overdue for a remap

Would you like diesel or octane booster poured onto your slippery slope sir? Adjustable angle slope? No problem just fit a Dawes device... Attic full of original parts? - oh well it will stop your roof blowing away Track wheels on your wife's kitchen floor staining the lino? Slap.

Edit: note the kitchen belongs to her

andy thinking about it, it may not be that easy due to you having a 5th injector..

But time will tell.
