Rolling road results
Stef,
I think the rolling road graph I looked at of yours was for your run pre front mount.
It would be a good idea to do what you suggest. paul seemed like a really nice bloke, and was most helpful, but he didn't offer to redo the run. The old bloke on the counter gave the impression they were over worked and understaffed taht day but it didnt make me feel any better.
Roll on power engineering (pun intended)!

Most of the dyno's I know of over here are fairly old, certainly well over four years.
However, going by what Bob and Adam have just said regarding ratios. it would appear that your technique of measuring just PAW is the least accurate!!

Hi all,
Yes I can understand that and it does make sense. You may be right Bob, there may be a way of compensating for gear ratios, programmed into the Aussie dynos. I don't know, as I don't know the technical side of the RR's. I grew up with measurements being done only at the wheels. Whether the two different types of RR's work differently or not is another factor.
I have sent an E Mail to my friend in OZ with all this and hopefully I'll get a reply to see the differences, or at least how the Aussie RR's work, It will probably take time as they are very busy and look at their E Mail once a week. I will post on this thread when I find out.

On the first link I provided on the previous page of my friends dyno site in OZ, you will see that a standard MY99 produces 89kw paw.
A MY99 with Big ***** bacbox produces 101kw paw
On the PE page you will see a standard MY99 producing 155hp paw and a MY99 with scoobysport backbox produce 146 hp paw.
Bob may be right about the dynos in OZ compensating for gear ratios as you will never see the standard car of the same type model have more power at wheels than the modified one as you see on the UK dynos

I have also noticed this on the Oz sites. They do look quite accurate when just looking at the mods and seeing the increases. As you say a fast flowing exhaust always gives more power than STD.
Quite often over hear you have a less restrictive Exhaust put on and find other cars of the same year still have more power than you and they are STD. Makes you think if the mods are worth while sometimes. Very confusing.

makes sense Bob, but remember these figures are for piece of mind.
that is why I am not that concerned about pts' figures, only the waste of my money.
I was pleased with the car before I went on the rollers, and it feels the same now.
Mods arent about numbers, they are about feel. The car still feels as fast as any impreza I have been in (except R19KET's - the banker), so teh fact that it has produced the lowest figures i have seen for any import, are irrelevant.
ultimately i did this for a before and after mod comparison for the benefit of others, as there are some great things going on, that i hope people will want to see. And on lookers are not going to know the car before and after, so rr figures is all I have.
If I trusted that a re run at pts would yield the same figures, ultimately i don't think it would matter, but I dont.
I am going to power engineering for test consistency, and I am sure they wont let me down.

Did you get piece of mind with these figures? I would not have thought so.
Give me £40 and I’ll drive up the road and tell you a load of bullsh!t.
I totally agree with you it how the car feels, but when they give you figures like you got is there any point. Put a gallon of super in the tank then take it back and gain 100 horses.
At least with PE I had a starting BHP & Torque which I thought about right and after each mod I run the car on the RR again and saw the increases. I drive from Bristol to go on PE RR that’s how much faith I have in them. I certain they won’t let you down.
At the end of the day you must have consistency or go by just how it feels.

Well power engineering re ran my car today after the spurious figures of last week.
I have to say the weather has deteriorated as it has been raining, but I am still sure temperatures were in the same region at around 20 celsius. Low humidity and I have no idea about pressure. I would assume high due to the temp.
Car was run after chins' UK300 (very nice
) which incidentally ran exactly as predicted by prodrive with the PPP in place.
Car was run in fourth gear, with bonnet closed, fans running happily and no lack of traction.
PAW seemed a very high 230ish hp iirc, with 303 bhp at 6525rpm with a fairly flat 279lbft from 3500 up to 5800 rpm.
Am pleased as results sound far more realistic.
Thanks again Merv.

All I can say is get a different 22b
186 at the wheels
Dude..... that's pathetic
Mines 201 at the wheels ???? but only 245hp max and 273 lb /ft.. Expertly mapped by Bob Rawles

whoops
Just read this "PAW seemed a very high 230ish hp iirc"
230 at the wheel?????? *cough* not saying a word.........
Now tell us how much internal engine work you've had done...
Coz if ya check the stats in my previous post i've not seen any Impreza anywhere near that ..
Well not any UK Impreza
And Yes Jason and Pat
you can both shut up the pair of you

finally I get to find out what bsrt 22B means.
Thanks, cos that was bugging me.
What does it actually stand for?
And rich, I am sure if you look on the dyno site there are loads at 230 paw. Bob says the lockable centre diffs always reflect a lower transmission loss.
Where and when was you rolling road done?
cos mine is just running the jecs, at 97, with octane booster but no ecu re set for the nf, so just for safety.
303 bhp is quite a difference fro yours, and I am surprised even mapped for safety that yours is significantly lower then mine, torque too??
Where was your Rolling road done?
One other point.
Mine was running 6% CO up the top which apparently is lean.
What I want to know is surely the cat in the centre section will remove some co from the exhaust? Or am I wrong? I can never remember if cats are intended to reduce co emissions.
If it does do this to some extent, does this mean it is actually running richer than it suggests as the next mods (starting tomorrow) are gonna make thinks much worse

No....... Adam.... *sigh*....
Pussies are for stroking
Richard
*there are Lies, Damn Lies and then there's Dyno figures*

Adam Question for you what is the fixation that you have with Dynos's ??

Actually richard, I am a closet dynophile.
Don't tell anyone
DOH!
Am about to mod the sti, and wanted some sort of comparison on the rollers before and after.
I know there is little consistency, but I am convinced of the "relative" accuracy of Power engineering and am very impressed with Merv.
A before and after test should hopefully yield some of the benefit graphically of the FMIC I am having fitted.
Incidentally I do not believe that rrs favour front mounted intercoolers, over top mounts.
If they o, then airflow from the road would also favour an fmic.

Okay
A hint from an Old git..
1st.. It ain't what ya got it's what you can do with it
2nd.. Run what ya brung
See ?? TWO inalienable American truths
Spend more money on driver education and less on producing numbers that you can p1ss into the urinal..
Sorry Dude But it's the truth

Adam,
That's more like it. That's good power. 23 ponies extra and being flat (very important for real world conditions) across the 3500 to 5800 rev range with just exhaust and air filter, compared to the 280 factory quote. Imagine what it will be after the rest of the mods.

Richard,
Why aren't you worthy? You might stir things up a bit but it's still interesting
. Some good points raised on some topics. Go back and read some of your drivetrain posts. I see some logic in your posts.
