Well its official, has just been on meridian news, they interviewed Insp Paul Yearwood who explained "its a public nuisance, its a menace and its got to stop"
Apparently they had 30 officers just spotting number plates !!
They closed the whole A3, then officers singled out those taking part and waved them into the retail park, holding the several hundred cars for hours on end.
The police say the cruisers were comitting the offence of public nuisance and then dished out a letter saying:
"this offence carries a maximum penalty of unlimited fine and imprisonment"
... if you gather anywhere later tonight or on ANY day after today, in similiar circumstances you will be arrested immediately
No futher warnings will be given
TALK ABOUT HEAVY HANDED !!!!!

You guys need to stop crying and start doing, moaning will do nothing for your cause except let them treat you like this again and again.
As Katana said action is what is needed by you. To constantly moan about the status quo and not do anything about it suggests to me that you believe the police are justified in their actions, if you think they are not then get off your ***** and do something about it!
Not having a pop just trying to motivate you guys into action

I'm sooo glad I pay my tax every month, pay road tax, pay tax on fuel...... it's just so nice, reassuring in fact, to know it's being well spent, that I don't need to look into where my money goes, I can sit back and relax, in the comfort that my hard earned is being spent by well educated, sensible people
...... oh, 'ang on a sec..........

I am not in to Cruises having been once 6 years ago but i think as long as people are sensible then where is the problem.
I beleave the Data Protection Act excludes law enforcement agencies from having to provide copies of Video's etc but i could be wrong but why not do what some civil rights groups are now doing which is video the Police filming you and then post it on the internet to publicise what useful jobs they are doing serving the comunity they are "Protecting" with nice close ups of their faces. It could be interesting.
All so why not approach civil rights groups like Liberty and see if they can advice you of your rights or even represent you in your compliants to the Chief Constable and last but not least why not try and get Mark Thomas or simular to do a program on the Police waste of resources compared with the poor clear up rates which the police force will have. In fact i think that Thames Valley force have only achieved one target out of 100+ set by the home office in the last year! i am sure you police force wouuldn't be much better.
Basicly until you organise yourselves the police will not take you seriously you need to have a firm knowledge of your legal position and then push to get these injustices stopped.

The old bill must clearly have reason to take such measures.
As someone on here a stated a stolen car was driven into such a meet and set alight, it stands to reason that the sort of people who attend these car park cruises are the same people who are likley to steal your pride and joy from the padlocked, alarmed and bolted garage you own.
And it will be same dudes that will key your Scooby because it`s better than their car.
I buy my first Scooby on Sat and have no intention of going to or taking my child a venue where people thrash and abuse their cars. A bloody multi-story car park! Yeah nice night out.
Sorry if I offend but some of you seem to be well aware of what goes on at these meets. If you were aware then you must take it as only a matter of time before the Police got heavy handed.
Maybe I'm getting old but what has a Scooby, Skyline etc owners got in common with the drivers of Saxo`s and Nova`s of this world.
You play with fire you get burnt!

Nowadays a lot of Scoobies (and EVOs) are nothing more than faster versions of Nova GTEs and Fiesta XR2s...
It wont be long before you see a 17 year old driving a red K-reg WRX with a beige coloured door, dented bumper, exhaust hanging off and Max Power sticker...and when that time comes I buy another car

Well be assured no cars were stolen and burnt out in the car park last night, its on Meridian news again at 11:20 tonight so you can watch it and make your own mind up.
As far as I could tell it was just a gathering of like minded car entheusiasts, much like you would see at a scooby meet, although their pockets aren't as deep as ours.
Fair enough a small minority probably break the law, but as we law abiding scooby owners NEVER exeed any speed limits, we never remove cats, or race at the lights, or have noisy exhausts etc etc then we can preach as much as we like....

So katana what u think we should do then
If you where there and plenty of peps will vouch for this i even pulled the human rights act on them and they just thought i was takin the ****
However i do now ask the question is this an invasion of human rights EG
We where just there enjoying ourselves and this sh*t happens
surely if we get enough cars down there i mean 600 plus maybe they might reconsider doin this to us

Some might think that this is way too excessive but it isn't. It is the only way. Go and write to your MP and you would either get an answer to F off or be totally ignored all together. You know this is the truth..

someone should ring up and say theres a cruise meet happening on the M25 between junction 4 and 5 every morning on the M25. They are resisting arrest by disguising themselves as normal people going to work, even their cars have been made to look like normal everyday commuting cars. some have even brought trucks!
arrest the lot of them I say.

That Meridian article was also a bag of cr4p.
How many times did they harp on about the A3 yet show pictures and were really talking about Ladymead
Good to see they get their articles factually correct

And the other thing that narks me, is that my mum lives in Guildford and had I been going to visit her I can guarantee I would have been singled out too, despite just trying to get to her house, and have only ever been to a cruise once in my life.....

this reminds me of how the police reacted to the rave culture of the early 90's where illegal parties were happening.
This led to the DJ's getting more organised and setting up legit clubs like Cream in liverpool.
The only way you lot are going to make things beter for yourselves is to get organised and get a local landowner on your side, so you can have legal meetings, otherwise you will get hasled as the law is not on your side IMHO.
Ever since the miner's strike, the law has been heavily weighted against the public when it comes to group gatherings. During the miner's strike the Police illegally restricted the movement of people, no police ever faced charges for that, it wont happen here either. If the government backs them the police can do what the hell they like. Get organised is the only option if you want to carry on with this kind of event.

This is a copy of a letter written to the Police re our bbq...
I wish to lodge a formal complaint against Officers in the South Wales Police force, namely the force/station responsible for the Llangennith area. The club members of SW-CC organised a beach party and camping weekend, some of us booked into B&Bs, others contacted campsites to check on availability.
When we arrived there at approx. 8:00pm on Saturday 3rd August we were turned away from the campsite, we then spoke to 2 other campsites who also turned us away. When asked why they informed us that South Wales Police had contacted them and had advised that a 300 strong car cruise was coming to their campsites and that they should refuse us entry.
This was the same for 4 other campsites that evening. Myself and my members are not happy for several reasons –
1) SW-CC does not and never has organised any non-sanctioned events.
2) The event was advertised well in advance and was clearly shown to be a BBQ/Camping weekend. If South Wales Police had an issue with this event, they had several weeks to contact the club to discuss this.
3) The attitude we were met with after South Wales Police had contacted these campsites, we had not done anything wrong or illegal but were being treated as though we were criminal deviants.
4) There were less than 30 people there in approx 15 cars – Hardly a 300 strong rally.
We all feel this was totally out of line and that we are being victimised by South Wales Police for being a car enthusiast club. As I’ve stated above, we only organise legal sanctioned events where the local Police force is notified. This incident cost our members approx. £20 per person in additional fuel costs and the extra costs when we actually found somewhere to camp. We ended up being split into 2 groups and had to separate so that we could find somewhere to camp, this could have avoided if South Wales Police had contacted us to actually find out the facts and not act on someone’s poor judgement.
It’s incidents like these that have severely damaged Police relations with car enthusiasts within South Wales.
We will not be satisfied by a simple apology as we feel we have been treated badly.
