I use assembler when I can to speed up my Delphi code. Works a treat

Si, programming isn't stressful, it is the managers and the users that make it stressful with feature creep and difficulty deciding what the hell they want

To be honest my main flaw with programing is i cant do the maths! never did A level so the jump is massive once ive done maths programming will get easy!

at college i loved it! my C project was 22k charaters and 13pages! worked a treat now there 20programs that take weeks

As for core switchs.....Extreme Networks with 10Gb cards and Juniper Routers

Or you can just do Cisco 65xx, not as pretty to look at though

They did teach us good stuff at uni on a comp sci degree - Leeds Uni. Two courses of professional development (or "how to get managers to do what you want them to do"), management of large IT systems ("common sense for beginners"), ...

You forgot to add completely unfeasable deadlines to that Ian

Personally, my degree course was 95% tosh. Most useful bit was writing a VB front end onto an Oracle DB.

If I were you, though, Si, I'd avoid programming. Despite being extremely short of staff and in many cases massively overpaid, the IT industry is boring, stressful, tiring, unrewarding and very hard work.
