I have looked in my manual today and it basicly reccomends viscosity not type. Despite what it says on the oil cap for hard use the manual says 10-50. I reckon on this basis Motul will be good if my dealer puts it in post PPP if it happens.

It wasn't me that mentioned dealer demo cars being fitted first - as far as i'm concerned it's me and a handful of other owners at Prodrive first and bugger the dealers...

And it IS going to happen....the reasons why it hasn't happened *yet* are both simple and complicated, but in no way sinister

You are quite right about what it says in the manual about oil (having coincidentally checked myself), there used to be a little leaflet in the wallet that came with the MY00 cars that said "Subaru UK recommend Shell Helix", but it doesn't look like they do this any more.

New to the site, but not to the Scooby.

New STI Type UK with PPP, due for collection mid September. Dealer told me he had a memo from them dated 19 Jul 02 about PPP spec and that delivery was not a problem.

Seems sad that you shell out on the top of the range car supposedly tuned by Subaru's motorsport people in Japan "Subaru Technica International" and it still needs £2k of add ons to make it go There comes a point where I think - sod it - just get the WRX and go for the aftermarket bits. Anyway the old PPP chip was meant to be pretty "sh1te" in the way they remapped the engine paramters IIRC. Hopefully when the shrouds of secrecy rise, this one will be worth it. Anyway there is something fishy going on about why they won't release details - I thought there were only 1000 or so Sti's - the sudden demand ain't gonna be that big probably just a few hundred in total and they wont all dive in head first at the off? Probaly a few long term test engines have blown up just before the release date or something and they're bricking themselves?

Dave,
Whooooooooops "Demo's first" that must have been me thenLOL They must have anough of us owners to experiment on

Scoobydick,
It does seem a shame but there are 3 routes to go and I went for UK main dealer UK car and therefore PPP is required A) for Performance and B) to retain Warrenty.

I have no problems with the other two waysthink they may be cheaper but I personaly wouldn't risk it

SUK/SOJ could, theoretically, have put the PPP on the STi at the factory. EXCEPT it would not then meet the EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval or Euro 3/4 emissions regs so they wouldn't be able to bring it here.

By doing it as aftermarket bits you can get round this.

I will bet now that people that order a PPP with a new STi will have to register the vehicle first, then fit the PPP to get round this.

As for cost, well, it puts a PPP non Prodrive STi at £27,995. That's a cheap car. The P1 was £31,995 two years ago.

There are short memories on here - only a few months ago people were saying what good value the STi was. It still is, with or without PPP.

Edited to say, re your comment about get a WRX and mod it instead - you will be disappointed - we did that with two WRX's, and now have two STi7's - that speaks for itself.
