Should the negative from my speakers be dead short to the bodywork ?

The negative speaker feeds coming from the back of the headunit all go to body ground once the aerial and surrounding cage are earthed, right or wrong ?

They shouldnt.. how are you checking this? with a meter... the speakers should be connected as specified by the headunit manufacturer.. (which on all new head units is a seperate + and - coming out of the back of the head unit for each 4 speakers..)

However testing with a meter mayt show that they do..

no not nececarilly.. (sp) it more than likely that they are wired to ground... due to the way the amps work, but its better not to connect the speakers direct to the ground... If its whining..(sp) it doesnt mean head unit is shagged... its one of those where you need to hear it..
