Donington Day (Poor Stalls)
#40
Not bad I suppose, a couple of moaners from several thousand attendee's.
Nice to know though that the overtime bill I've just paid was worth while.
Dissappointed that you (in fact ANYBODY) thinks that the stalls were so disappointing.
Our (Scooby Mania) effort for that day involved the following:-
100+ man hours of preparation time. (paid for out of my pocket and not loaded into the cost of products)
£300.00 in rental fees for various display items and equipment
£100.00 for the stall/display space
ALL of my staff (and my 13 year old son) worked until way past Midnight on Saturday night
All of my staff were then up again at 06.30hrs to get there and set up (2 hours)
Free technical advice
Cost for goods stolen on the day from our (poor) stand
Forfeit by 2 of us from participating in the track events (including spectating).
We (all traders/dealers I'm sure), supplied people with kit, which without would have halted their own track activities on the spot.
£167.00 worth of prizes for the SIDC raffle.
We were still working unloading Etc. at 10.00PM last night.
We do support group buy's where possible and do run discounted schemes/items at our discretion. In fact sod it, why should I have to justify my efforts?
Nice one Mellow, Craig, Etc. (It must just be us Northerners)
So anyway Zippy, this is an owners club, I'm an SIDC member/owner, I've listed my effort and contribution above, what was yours?
Mike.
P.S. Thanks for those who came over and acknowledged the amount of effort that had gone into yesterday.

I did'nt go to Donnington because I was feeling ill. However I for one appreciate the effort and money suppliers make in putting up stands at track/open days.
I'm not sure what people expected to see(earls court or the NEC perhaps?) but I do know that without them, the day would have been less.
SO even though I was'nt there, I want to say to all those who put of stands/attend track days in support of the drivers your efforts ARE VERY much appreciated and don't let the vocal minority put you off

Sounds like Zippy turned into the wrong carpark ;-) Donington Market is next to the Paddock. I'm sure he'd of found loads of bargains there. Might of even been able to buy a job lot of shell suits. The traders you're moaning about don't spend every day humping cheap tat in and out of tranny vans every day for a living. They offered some wares at Donington to give the masses the opportunity to see some of there goods and buy if they wanted.
What will you be selling at your stall Zippy at the next event ?

Tell you what.
How about the BBSers who complained should fork out for the stalls and extra costs of various companies getting to the next relevant track day......maybe then they can offer the discount you want?
Page 3 girl idea is good Sorry, I haven't got the looks or body to offer my services, else I would
If you aren't able to haggle prices down then don't whinge

Must say I didnt buy anything but I appreciated that the guys turned out and spent time and effort. Sure it would have been nice if a few more companies had bothered/wanted to turn up and make the effort (including Subaru UK, what do we have to do guys to get these people to notice us ). I did however go over and chat with the guys I know.
As Pete Croney said in another thread there were over 500 impreza owners as a captive audience, they dont need to be converted as they already drive scoobs. Surely dealers and SUK would have been interested in bringing along a few demo cars.
Maybe ralliart could have turned up and tried to convert a few people to EVOs
Great day I enjoyed it anyway
Cheers

Well i apreciated the efforts everyone made on the day, it's always great to see the diferent companies and the staff, as most of the time you just get to hear a voice on the end of a phone.
Mind you, there are some dodgy looking geezers out there.
All i can suggest is you get yourself down to the Autosport show at the NEC and see what you get charged there. Companies that have a good, competitive product range shouldnt have to discount as a matter of course, why should they? They have to be profitable to stay in business and still provide us with a service, simple logic to me.
We are far from ripped off from the supliers, we are ripped off on Tax, import duties etc etc but thats not the supliers fault! Owning an Import has its costs, without people like scoobysport, scoobymania, TSL etc we simply wouldnt be able to run our cars the way we can now, so they should be thanked for making the effort to come and be open and display their goods and services back to back for us to see.
Dont forget Subaru in the UK isnt a HUGE market, it's very specialised, thats one of the reasons why its such good fun being a part of the scooby scene.

well said guys and thanks for your support.
We asked Subaru UK if they would let us do demo rides in one of their fleet of STi demo cars. The driver would have been one of their regular demo day drivers. They declined.
On Sunday, I had a good chat with Darin Frow, who runs the Mitsubishi Lancer Register. Their big day is is the Rally Supercar Day at Castle Coombe later this month (28th July). Not only are Mitsubishi providing a whole fleet of cars for demo laps and administrative help, but they have also arranged for Alister McRae to be there, doing PR and demo laps.

Mike/Mark/Pete and the other traders,
I would just like to echo Neil's and others comments and state that I appreciate the effort you guys put in and whilst I didn't buy anything, I had a mooch round all of your stalls and questioning the "quality" of the stalls, prices and merchandise on display didn't even cross my mind.
Keep up the good work,
Matt

Yes I heard on the day that SUK werent going to be there despite best efforts and arm twisting by the SIDC. Shame really it would have been a good PR exercise for them .

I found the stalls really useful and people friendly. "Mark Underwood is the man cleaning cars!" was the best and completely accurate advice from one well layed out stand. Thanks for helping one seriously over-hung Clark. Thanks everyone for a nice easy day.

Well, I had a cruise of all the stalls, but was determined not to buy anything
V. nice but the one thing I was looking for was a scooby based t-shirt for Ez which unfortunately no-one had Was offered a tent by S-mania & Ez was given a Pagid stress VW @ the SIDC stand, so I can attest to everyone doing their best to help
So, for next year can traders ensure they have a supply of suitable scooby t-shirts for a 4 yr old pls
(& if she keeps growing at the rate she does, it'll be a size OK for a 5/6 yr old )
Ta!

Cost for goods stolen on the day from our (poor) stand
So much for the SIDC/Scooby "community"
Were there members of the 'public' around or just Scooby peeps? It's not nice to think that a fellow SIDC member would half-inch some parts

When Scoobymania and Scoobysport were starting they're businesses and running at a loss, how many of you offered to pay more than rrp.

First time I had been to an SIDC organised day, so I went with an open mind as I did not know what to expect.
The stalls were not quite what I anticipated but non the less they had the neccessary bits and bobs you would expect to see/would like to purchase and all the staff/help levels were excellent.
I was one of the few maybe who got a good deal (well I was happy), cheers Trouser!
In fact cheers to all the vendors there who put in the time and effort.

Pete Croney,
Just a thought for the companies doing stalls ... why not bring along your old stuff that you really don't want anymore AS WELL as your new shiny cutting-edge products. That way people can have a haggle over the old kit (which frankly you would be glad to get 50% of RRP for) and you get the benefit of greater customer exposure.
Oh, and the happy punter knows that they've bagged a bargain.
Can't see a flaw in the logic (other than you have to bring all the old stock with you as well), and it maintains interest in your stall all day (esp if you keep knocking down the prices 'cos you just don't want to take it back home). Everyone knows it's last year's kit, nobody minds so long as it's cheap enough. Just have to make sure that it's clear what is and what is not in the sale.

Dear Stall Holders,
I had a good look round and enjoyed myself loads.
As a regular exibitor at verious trade shows (TV not motor) all I can say is what ever you do sombody will want somethind else - Thats life
Didn't buy anything But I'd been telling myself I wasn't going to spend any more cash on the car all the way up the M1 even after my braked started to fade on track
Missed whoever was selling the raffle tickets though

I didnt go to the meet, but having read the thread from start to finish without a break I feel I qualify for :
A fancy back box for my MY96 4 door that gives me 300bhp for no increase in insurance, some leather bucket seats and rear seats to replace mine, and a fight with Mr Mellow which he is to let me win without laying a finger on me, and then as winner he must give me the keys for his RA beastie which I read about and salivated over when it was for sale.
So if you can arrange another show outside my house with all the above then I'll come :P, and you can drive about outside, and I promise I WONT complain about the stalls. OK?
Sorry, I'll go to Muppets shall I?
