The 'scot cab BBS must recognise quality when they come across it then Pete.
Spoke to a friend (yes i have just the one) about escort cabs and he had a couple of pointers.
Interior
Check the drivers headrest for wear/rips due to the driver wearing his baseball cap Back-to front
Watch for signs of scuffing on the seat material - apparently down to the material that they make Puffa jackets from rubbing up the nap when listening to da bass.
Check the 12v-240v transformer (located behind the driver seat) is working - the usual test is to plug in a hairdrier and set it to max power.
Make sure the 'On a Mission' sticker fitted the the plastic rear window is not faded or ripped - they are getting hard to find now. I think Ford have discontinued them.
Same for the Fido Dido transfer stuck on the boot lid.
Hope this helps
Paul

I would hazard a guess that Paul Hopgood drives around on Gold Wheels and therefore needs to cast doubt on my masculinity to make himself NOT feel such a TART!!

How above an old 3 series! As this BBS is nearly scoobynet I am surpised others haven't suggested it. Sensible cost now, much better than Escort/Golf. You might even enjoy driving it
Good luck at finding any good motor from the 80's.
(could always try my previous and cheap suggestion of a 205 CTi, good fun and very cheap)

Thanks Polarbear - yes, BMW's are ok but I want a throw away summer toy (in MINT condition of course!!)
The Pug is a possibility, the convertible version of course, as that is the WHOLE point!

Yep, but the bmw's start bellow 3k, the pug much less and the CTi is the convertable GTi, the CJ is a 1.4 convertable, prolly a bit slow really. Anyway good luck locating one.
