I spoke to Hursts today, they told me that the previous owner of this Type 20 apparently didn't like the Alcon brakes so he changed them to what's on it now, he also told me that he changed the AST coilovers because they were expensive to service so they changed them to Bilstein's which are currently on the car now, i asked him why the strut brace isn't on there either, he said he didn't know why it wasn't on. That's a fair bit of the Litchfield Type 20 package that's missing.
It just seems odd for someone to buy an expensive limited run Impreza which would have cost quite a bit to then remove the AST Coilovers because of the expense to maintain them, then remove the brake package and the strut brace.
From the extra images i've seen it needs quite a bit of paintwork as well, i still would have taken it on to get it back to its former glory, or possibly even better but Hursts want close to the asking price which i think is overpriced imo considering what needs doing paint wise and whats missing from the original Type 20 package that Litchfield fitted.

I really wouldn’t waste any more time on it. Front panel replaced and dealer saying the door sticks out... it’s had some serious action IMO
I wouldn’t mind betting someone crashed it for all you know they may have started to break it (best bits gone) and someone else bought it after they gave up.
It's looking more like a dog every day! What was his excuse for the missing interior? Previous owner was looking for something less comfortable, that didn't match?
I'm not, i'd already decided fairly early that something didn't add up with this car, i guess i just wanted to know exactly what was wrong with it and if it was workable, it's not and quite a few things don't add up, its just good getting other peoples opinions to back up your own. Someone else on the forum, or someone reading who isn't registered may have been interested in this car, at least they have a lot of extra info.
I’ve had one and should have Alcons and half leather recaros ? I’ve got the litchfield promotional stuff for it and the badges on back don’t look right either!
@man utd would it be possible to get a scan of these? I’ve just purchased a Litchfield type 20, and I’d really like this.
As Alyn says, registration can be hit and miss; Lichfield was first to import these, and I believe they spent a fair amount on type approval, so it may have been easier to register it as UK.
The door arm rest trim doesn't match the seats quite either, so perhaps the interior, shocks and brake calipers were sold off beforehand. hand
They were imported by Prodrive, I know the original owner of mine, he viewed the available stock at prodrive and selected the car he wanted Litchfield to convert. Prodrive shows as the first owner of mine but was delivered to the first owner with delivery miles. Mine is not based on a spec c but believe some or at least one was. Mine has a few oddities that I presume are as a result of them being supplied as motorsport cars to Prodrive. Should have AST and front Alcons as standard. Both have been replaced on mine due to difficulty in maintenance. But replaced with equal replacements , KW’s and AP’s.

Just jumping in on this thread as I've got one of these rare cars. I also agree that the Prodrive folks imported them. Regarding AST's, yep they were standard on the Type 20. The Alcons were an option to the black Brembos.

@Hatch WRX i do not think that is correct, I believe front Alcons were standard, if there are not present then they have probably been removed due to the cost of maintenance. Rear Alcons were an option. I have the original bill of sale and it only shows an additional line item for the rear Alcon’s and hence fronts were standard to the type 20 package.
Hiya MrEd, I got the sense that the formula was a little less prescriptive on the brakes when I spoke with Iain before buying mine. Since there were only a dozen made I suspect there's a few subtleties eg seats but, the heart of them is the same which is what sets them apart; 2.0l, Forge Intake, Milltek exhaust, LM400 turbo,re-map, AST's, STI brace, upgraded bushes, different geo etc.
They're a great all rounder.
Having some fun in yours already?

That may well be the case, I can’t find any marketing literature. Mines been off the road for a few years so just sorting all the teething problems, but seems an impressive piece of kit.
I want to get my geometry checked, do you know what their settings should be?
I'm having a look around for the geo settings......I'm sure I wrote them down & put them in a safe place.....!
I had the car set up @ Cook Motorsport down near Bath.
They're the UK's AST specialists, I had them rebuild my units.

The AST’s have been replaced on mine for KW’s. But I’d like to ensure the geometry is correct. I’d also like to gather as much info as possible on the Type 20’s. Literature etc. Was there only 12 made? I wonder how many are left?
The AST's are very good I have to say. But, like yours, one of the previous owners had opted to replace with BC's. I guess for the same reason....AST's are a bit pricey to maintain in the long term.
When I spoke with Iain Litchfield he told me; we only made about a dozen because in 2009/10 we had the big recession, people weren't looking for a £40k special car.
I cobbled together a bit of a list over time.
They're a great car, well sorted but not known about.

I think it was the time delay that was the issue with mine. Car off the road and stuck on a ramp whilst they are sent off for rebuild. The KW’s are over £3k! Unfortunately they are no longer with the car.
