it certainly is mate and I do feel for you in these times ,, make the most of the time left

just to let you know mate ,, we had echo put to sleep at home with us ,, she was on her spot on the sofa and cuddled into me when they did the injection so she was very calm and happy and it also made us feel a lot better about the whole thing , wasn't the cheapest way of doing it but it was the best for her

just so you know price wise it was around £350 for the call out and then extra if you wanted them cremated and stuff by them

unfortunately mate our dog is getting put down Monday morning, girlfriend went the vets at 12.30 and her heart is knackered. Tell you what Steve, as you’ve recently been through it , it’s fckin hard to take/accept. We’ve got the weekend with her to spoil her with food, love etc but to say we’re devastated is an understatement.

Question for all you fellow dog owners, are any of you having problems with neighbours since covid restrictions have been lifted?

My wife and I don’t go out too often in the evenings as we don’t like leaving the dogs alone, but had to at the weekend for a close friends wedding. We received a txt from the neighbour to say our dogs had been barking.
Neighbour also mentioned that the dogs bark all day when we are at work. Now, since lockdown I have been trying to work more from home so I don’t need to leave them alone for long, I had to go out this morning for work and set the iPad to video record the shenanigans while I was out. For the hour and a half I was out the dogs barked on three occasions (but only one dog each time) for a total of around 20 seconds, but I am now paranoid to book any jobs in that I can’t do at home through fear of upsetting the neighbours.

We have also been sleeping in the living room for the last 2 years as our golden retriever won’t go up the stairs and started barking at the bottom of them at night, so we didn’t disturb our neighbours so it isn’t that we are not trying to do our best.

tell them to **** orf.........dogs will naturally bark at some sort of disturbance but sounds like yours are very minimal

try living next door to a nuts Lab that simply barks non-stop for every waking hour regardless and the stoopid ***** do nothing with it!!

I recommend you don't tell em to **** off , i take it you live in a terrace ? Or semi ?
I recommend you get sound insulation for air bourne noise and do the whole wall that adjoins ,if this doesn't work do their side too and offer to pay for half of it.
Neighbor disputes can very quickly descend into a unrecoverable feud which only ends when someone moves or dies .
You might say i cant afford to do that ,but if they call the council and complain and the council writes to you ,you will have to declare that if you ever move same if they call plod which will make it hard to sell .
I say nip it in the bud .

It’s semi detached, but the sound travels through the walls very easily. You can hear a door shut from next door, baby crying (their grand child etc)

We are (get your pre conceived presumptions/prejudices ready) housing association tenants. Our neighbours are not.
By the way, my wife and I own two shops and employ staff, we are not your cliche council house benefit sponging . . . you get the idea.

I have considered putting in sound deadening insulation and plasterboarding the wall in the living room, I do building work so can do it myself, but as mentioned it isn’t my property, but it’s an option.

They haven’t been rude or impolite in their request, and they do know we are trying.
Our old neighbour that lived there was a tw@t. Our retriever would bark, for a minute at the most, at 7:15am (neighbour said it was the middle of the night, my wife asked her what time exactly and they said 7:15!) to say oi, give me my breakfast and they moaned about that, even though they had a dog and used to leave their daughters Jack Russell next door that would, literally, bark all day long. He even got sh!tty with me because the fence in the back garden that HE put up blew over and I didn’t go straight out and replace it, even though I had just come out of hospital having been in for a month with collapsed lung and had a thorocotomy, but I digress.

Sad day. Our retriever Molly went down hill yesterday. About 6 months ago we thought she was having a stroke. Took her to the vets and it was old dog syndrome. She was given an injection for sickness and told she may take a few weeks to recover, but was fine within a couple of days.

yesterday it happened again. I was out all day but when I got back around 9pm she perked up and was fine. 4am this morning she wasn’t.
The vet came out an hour ago, and said her organs were failing. We had decided it was probably time as she was worse this time around, and being very nearly 14 with probable tumours it would be the best thing.

To top it off, today is my wife’s birthday. What a **** day😢

Thanks mate. The wife’s beating her self up a bit, just stopped her pet insurance as cover level dropped significantly and price increased a lot. Thinks the dog thought fk you then!

Have to look on the bright side, a friend of ours is a retriever breeder and has had over 20 of her own. The oldest one she has had is an 11 year old so Molly was a good age and she was always spoilt rotten.

Thanks John, sorry to read that you have been through the same thing a month ago.
Its tough. I do believe we are fortunate to have had nearly 14 years with her, not far off the age of our Jack Russell when he went. She was nearly twice the age of the retriever my wife had when she was a kid.

We still have two dogs. They are 4 years old and when we got them they gave Molly a new lease of life. They are a bit subdued today, it’s funny but I think they knew this morning that she was not well.

Have been trying to hold off on getting another dog since Molly left us. The Mrs was constantly looking on various websites at dogs for sale but it just didn’t feel right.

A friend and client of the wife’s then sent her some pics. They have working labs and went on holiday leaving their dogs with a friend of theirs that also had working lab. Unfortunately while they were away the two got together and pups were created.

After a bit of consideration, we now have one of them. They are working labs, but she is runt of the litter and not really suited as a working dog.

She is very sweet and has already become very attached to me, much to the wife’s annoyance.
She is called Betty, not sure whether her nick name should be Gnawer Betty or Bet Piddler

Ahh,

Since Rolly died over covid I also held off getting another dog.

Well, that changed after my friend who is a vet in Spain treated two neglected puppys that their owner were leaving alone outside at a holiday property on auto feeders and kept escaping and ending up at the pound/shelter.

So of course I ended up with them. Forgot how much hard works pups can be and well behaved Rolly was (proper pub dog). These two have separation anxiety and badly socialised with other animals. It's hard work but I think we're getting there...not at the stage of taking to the pub for a pint though

Believe or not they're from the same litter!

Double coated too; Rolly never shed hair but boy do these shed. Had to buy a robot vacuum which needs emptying everyday!

My Mrs went to Alicante at the beginning of the month. Couldn’t believe the amount of dogs wandering around the streets seemingly on their own.

So far quite lucky with Betty. She is currently curled up on the arm of the sofa with her head resting over my shoulder. She is now 10 weeks but is pretty well toilet trained, has crapped in the house twice since Sunday, because it was tipping down and she didn’t want to go outside. Sleeps through most of the night but have had to lie down next to her crate a couple of times and she goes straight back to sleep.

Still have the two dachshund x retrievers so integrating them is the main challenge at the moment. They were a bit funny at first and kept telling her off when she went near them but becoming more tolerant now, still grumble occasionally if she gets in their face but the one we were most worried about is accepting her now, both sleeping on the sofa next to each other and even when she trod on his head to climb on the sofa he didn’t growl or move at all.

we have had her five days now and she has not barked once!

They look an interesting mix Ali, obvious Terrier look but can’t fathom out if they have Labrador or staffy in the mix somewhere (I used to collect blood samples from 20+ vets every day and got quite good at guessing various different x breeds after 20 odd years)

Our first dog was pointer x Jack Russell. Our friend had his sister, she looked more Jack Russell and ours looked more pointer, funny how they turn out.

I have absolutely no idea what they are: Bella (the small one) is wire haired and has retriever instincts and her tail wags like a lab too. Looks like a terrier but doesn't behave like one.

Sebastian, the bigger one is double coated like a lab but a lot more aloof in temperament and more of sniffer dog, maybe beagle. Which is plausible as they are popular in Spain. As are terriers. We joke that he's a miniature Entlebucher to confuse the pedigree/breed snobs
