P1's not selling?
#31
At end of day harder to sell a car privately that is worth 20k+.
How many people have that kind of money lying around. That is why many trade in at a cheaper price.
Also ppl want the so-called security of a trade deal rather than gambling on a private buy.
Scoobynutter - U went from Type R to P1? Wasn't the P1 a let down after the Type R. Went in a P1 and not have the Torque thump that the V5 has. If i was going to change, would have to be something even more exhilarating like an Evo Extreme or a Skyline R34 V-Spec.
ChrisP - 10 grand does buy a good suspension set-up but could not justify spending that type of money. Would prefer to spend on a heavily modded Evo 6.
P1 is very over-priced. Prices are staying firm since a limited edition UK spec. There are loads of other superior Jap Imports going for silly money that will provide a bigger fix.
In a nutshell: Get an Import!

Simple supply and demand. The car is worth what people are prepared to pay for it. no arguments!.
the price may go up or go down depending on these factors. The P1's that are not selling are overpriced else they'd sell. You can say car X is worth £25k 'till you're blue in the face but if no-one is gonna buy it at a pound over £20k for example then the car is only worth £20k, not £25k.
Imports have affected it as there's more supply of very similar cars. why pay £25k when you can get almost the same for £15k? how can the extra £5k, £10k, whatever be justified? The market is wiser and no longer fears imports like they did 5, 10 years ago.

You are obviously another clueless Xenophobe who is highly patriotic about Uk spec Scoobs.
'Beware the grey imports!' and all that b*****!
Dracoro
U summed it up.
Save yourself a few quid and get something meatier.

Maybe its because they are getting to be yesterdays news ?
20k for a secondhand Japanese saloon car with wings and spoilers seems a bit rich, A P1 is only special to those in the know, to the average punter it looks similar but costs twice as much. fairly narrow market because most people with 20k+ (and the money to run it) might find it a bit spicy for their tastes. Those who aspire to one cant afford one and when they can they have generally grown out of it. Not everyone wants the attention and the horror stories about car jacking cant have helped (however hyped)
Dont get me wrong, I love them and still want one but public perception may be changing, the Scoob used to be the ultimate but now its going the way of the Cossie where those who buy them are proper enthusiasts or Drug Dealers. The smart money is going into
Mini Cooper S (good residuals)
CTR (nearly as quick, cheaper to run)
Clio 172 (11 Grand !)
Seat Leon (13 Grand)
Octavia RS (14 Grand)
GOLF DIESELS !
oh and 2.8 Capris by the looks of it.

Yes, supply and demand, dealer back up and another key thing for private sales at anything over 10 grand is that people usually need to PX another vehicle in order to afford it.
Its easy to sell cars under 5k, seems the higher the price the narrower the target audience. Always pains me to hear of cars being PXd in at a dealers for derisory amounts then sold for X grand more within a week. You think why didn't the new buyer buy it off you when it was X grand cheaper in Autotrader and being advertised for weeks? Probably for the reasons above, or they are too stupid to use the Autotrader web search facility.

Just a couple of points, I was offered a good fair trade in price against a new E7/STI for my MY00 RA. I have decided to keep it but if I had traded it, it would have cost me 6K in depreciation in just under 2 years which in this market isnt bad for a grey import, hence my comment .
10K for suspension was a bit tongue in cheek and I did say with a bit left over, example leda B coilover adjustable is £1231 from scoobysport (just checked ). Scoobymania do the AVO and DMS kits and TSL have a great range of suspensions kits as well all for around the same money. There are plenty of P1 not running standard suspension either dont forget .
There are difference between the P1 and the STI but its whether you want to spend the extra 10K for the differences or find an STI and have money just to do the mods that you want or simply keep the cash for fuel and insurance .

The irony is, they take allt he good stuff off the P1, so you are paying 10k for lower spec.
sliding rear calipers instead of 2 pots
viscous centre diff instead of manual electronic
r160 rear diff instead of r180 with tougher driveshafts
slower geared rack instead of 22B quick rack.
can understadn the uk market might prefer to have abs, but why ditch the rack?
just plain stupid if you ask me!

Value wise, a guy has just joined the MLR having tried for 2 months to sell his P1. Eventually he had to let it go for £17,000 with only 26k miles - bargain me thinks!
Also the STi V's are awesome and srill 4 doors, I've not driven a type R so I cant say if they are better or worse, but I have had a P1 for a weekend while I had my last Scoob.

At end of day ppl buy P1 or Sti for the sheer performance factor.
Still cannot understand or justify spending an extra 10k for differences such as lesser performance.
Surely you want a car with the best suspension/engine output/torque/handling etc...
As Adam M says you are paying well over the odds for an inferior spec.
Talk to many ppl and only know the P1 or 22b. Probably why ppl are clueless as to the Sti's grunt factor.
Case re-opened.

you joking?
no one know s the 22B, everyone always congrats me on my P1 being such a lovely car.
btw, the talk above refers to the sti 5 type ra not type r, which is still a four door.
