Thats a tricky one then mate, sounds very easy to make a mess of that.
could you replace with black or dark grey protective vinyl?
just a thought as I expect painting would be a last resort.

I'm just waiting for some adhesive solvent, as the vinyl comes off totally separate from the glue. I'm a bit limited outside at this time of year, as warmth would help. Then there's the dust as well, Siv!!
Whilst taking the plastic panels off, I've realised the car is showing it's 55000 miles, so a respray will probably be on the cards in another couple of years. I'm loving having almost unlimited time to do stuff, though.

This is the kind of crap that sits in the side skirts
The missing stud is one that snapped, if anyone knows the part number. A bigger problem was on the front wheel arch, where the metal tag on the wing, which holds the liner in place, snapped off. I'm not sure what to do about that, as it secures the edge of the liner.

Yes well I’m sure the dust is harmless..... unless your rubbing it into your paint

I was thinking of the clear vinyl for mine rather than mudflaps so I would be interested to see if you have a solution.

I got rid of red mud flaps when the car came into the UK, as red and yellow didn't really mix; some Yank called it the Ronald Macdonald car!! I think the vinyl works well if you don't want flaps, but just don't leave it on more than 5 years.

Thanks. It lived near Welshpool then, and moved south later, down that way.

9000 miles a year of pure joy, mate. Cars are meant to be used, not polished.
Mind you, it needs a bit of polishing.

Raggy and me love a bit of banter, I'm just waiting for him to get desperate and virtually give me his AP's. I like them that come right out with it.

Thanks Don, I've got them online. The ones that I'm having trouble finding are the small one at the front 909130051, and the different sizes in the wheel arch. The small screw in type damage easily, and a number of arch ones are missing, due to mud flap mods. A lesson I've already learned is to wait till everything is dismantled before ordering!

One rear wheel arch stripped and cleaned today, odd bits of rust, mainly caused by rusty clips left on bodywork. Rear bumper cleaned, clayed and polished. Exhaust surrounds rubbed down and painted black. Rear wheels clayed and polished. Some rust treated, but awaiting Bilt Hamber products and underseal.

Any input welcomed on how I should treat the fuel filler pipe insitu; plan is to treat with Hydrate 80 rust killer, and then BH heavyduty Dynax s50 underseal

Also, what about the sub frame and suspension components? Can I cover them with Dynax?

I'm well pleased with changing the colour of the exhaust trim; the original brushed metal always bothered me. Thanks to Kaosone for the inspiration
