We have to play Proper football to win this tornement but at the moment we are not, look at italy for instance, they scraped through yet they didnt play good football, brazil, same there, not the best football for the competition, and as it goes i have to say that the most impressive team so far has been the USA as for a rank outsider to get this far with the results they have they could be up there winning the cup unless England pull out the finger and start playing football that can be counted as football, a win may be a win but if you see what im putting and dont look at the score, we are playing CRAP!! end of discussion!
Denmark were scared and we punished them, Brazil or Belgium may be different and kick our asses cos we keep giving the ball away!!!!

think about it, anyone can win a game with a side that has a crap defence, Denmark had a crap defence, ours was good, now just think if they would have had good strikers, i think we would have had a shock today.

If you outscore the opposition, they can have 99.99% of the ball but they'll still lose! Or have FIFA changed the rules again?

Job done once again, roll on the next match. Next week is a totally different 90 minutes.

 

Only 40% posession and you guys are complaining. That's good football! Look at where the Danes had posession, in their half of the pitch and around the middle of the pitch. Our defence was so organised that, in general, the only option the Danes had was to move the ball around totally harmlessly. Look at the real stats that make a difference - shots on goal, corners, etc. These show that England were well on top.

England have the best defence in the cup, not a guarantee of a win but makes it difficult for even the Brazilians. When Ferdinand and Campbell have played together, England haven't lost. In 9 games that they have played the full 90 minutes, they have only conceeded 3 goals. Now that is world class and why we are the about the most feared team left in the contest. You have to score to beat us!

 

I think we should put this thread to bed.3-0 and played crap!what the f@ck do you people want.We totally outplayed the Danes,didn't give them any clear cut chances.Took all of ours and then closed the game up.

At the end of the day, we are as pleased as anyone with the result and really believe that this could be "the" year. Don't like to tempt fate and we have been behind the boys all the way. The Argentina game was one of the most exciting games I have ever personally witnessed. Yesterday's game was not, even though it was a "better" victory.

So we IMHO dont play too well, and I ask another question, that indicates that if England string a few passes together and keep possession, we can expect even greater results.

As someone that predicted the correct score yesterday I feel in a position to comment here. Mr Erikson to you lot has got our boys playing and thinking about every match in just the right way. Had Mr Hoddle or Mr Keegan been in charge yesterday they would have pumped them full of their own importance and they would have gone out and probably lost to a golden goal. IF Brazil get past Belgium (and it's a big IF) England will beat them. My biggest worry is Senegal in the semi-final as they are a bit of an unknown.

 

 

Anyone in doubt as to whether England played correctly or not should look at the Brazil Belgium match. For a lot of that game, Belgium were the better team, creating better chances and having more posession - who won the game?

England under SGE have finally realised how to play international football. It is something that the top teams, Italy, Argentina, Germany, Brazil etc etc have been doing for years and it is especially important in the world cup - you do what it takes to win a game and no more. It isn't pretty always but it is a damn sight more effective. Clearly 40% posession IS enough to win games. The skill is controlling a game, soaking up the pressure and playing at your pace - something England did very well against Denmark (2nd half especially).

People have to realise that this isn't the Premiership where teams will go at it for 90 mins! Just watch the Italian league football to see the difference. It makes SGE's management even more impressive is that he has managed to install this discipline into the team.
