The RS1800 was the only Mk2 variant with a Cosworth and Ford developed engine ( BDG ) which its own alloy block design and running on Carbs although some rally cars ran fuel injection.

The engine in Wull's car is, IIRC, a cosworth YB engine ( think Sierra cosworth )which was based on a Pinto block. This engine is a cheaper conversion for a Mk 2 as opposed to a BDG and also, thanks to the turbo, can easily produce more power.

Just to confirm I’m still undecided but leaning more towards “not bothering”......but I may ask to see more proof of work carried out etc.

The 2k May be better spent on getting the Impreza ready for sls next season.

That's what I thought it was as well, thanks for the clarification, it's a long time since I had anything to do with Fords, you couldn't give a MK 2 away for £300 quid last time I had owt to do with them. Another mate had a lovely crystal grey 4x4 Sapphire and struggled to get £2.5k for it maybe 17yrs ago... how times change.

Fond memories of them though as I cut my teeth on them as a spotty teenager... which is what I think you need to have done to want to own one now.

20k is ok. It will go up. If it was a 'cosworth' (BDG rs1800) it would be worth at least double that.

Just been looking on car and Classic at some mexico's. Asking price from one dealer that has 3 or 4 is north of 32k, although the tw@t has listed them all as RS Mexico's, which don't exist!

agreed, these were the cars we had as teenagers, where our thirst for speed evolved, mind you keeping the car going in those days was a day to day battle
thank the lord for scrap yards
Mk1 escorts, you couldn't sell them, look at any ford from the 70's now, they're mortgage reducers
