Rust is the biggest killer of the classics

Rear arches and rear sills
Budget for a £1000

Underneath
Subframes
ARB
Nuts and bolts and bushes
Maybe 30-40 hours labour to replace and restore everything underneath
Budget £4-5 k

New springs / coilovers etc £600-£800

Brakes refurbished maybe £200-£300
Various hoses and bits under engine bay £300 +
Wheels refurbished £200-£300

I'm up to nearly 10k on the 17 year old Greenwagon refurbishment
So not economic viable for most owners

But we all know now much RS/ and lancia are worth now
So maybe the lowly classics will follow suit as there isn't many left now

Be careful.

I'd look into getting those rusty aches sorted. As it spreads. Also can be a sign it's worse behind the scene.

Couldn't agree more. Treat it early while you can.

Trying to get mine don't now. Had one insane quote of £900. Said only one side needs a piece welding in.

Conversation moved onto rust (which reminds me winter is here and i've got bubbles to check), but all I've ever heard from garages/mechanics is that the GC8/GF8 are the best shapes and its nice to see an unmodified T2000

Couldn't agree more. I can't find the clip but James May did an excellent piece on the subaru impreza on his "cars of the people" programme a few years ago.

It's been a while since I saw it, but I think it was a very well cared for classic, possibly a limited edition STI, but not a type R.
