Scooby Regular
Sure,
part ex'd an M3 with a type r from him, drove straight up to scoobyclinic for dyno and check over. Car was given a once over looked ok (to be fair very clean underneath, although top end paint work was tired. was on cheaper end of the scale so i knew that going into it), loaded onto the dyno and run, way way down on power (250bhp), although running safe, and a pool of oil on the dyno.
Turned out to be crank seal. Job was priced up and spoke to max, he then said get it back to me and i'll have it sorted (bear in mind that was 2 hours away). When i mentioned would need to sit over night to cure so would need to be put up for the night etc he said he'd speak to his mechanic (he obviously thought i was lying). He then realised its not a cheap job so we came to an agreement and he send me some (not all) money to cover it as we had agreed. Other than a bit of arguing about it can't really complain to much about that.
Gearbox was dropped to change the crank seal and found clutch was worn to the bolts, to be fair it drove fine (me a mate and two mechanics had driven it and found no issue) so no real way to tell that so can't really blame him for that one.
6 months after i bought it it dropped the crank bearings and needed a full rebuild, again wasn't anyway to tell that was gonna happen so don't blame him for that.
But its the next bit that would really question me using him again.
I traded a 2001 E46 M3 in, i'd only had it about 6 months and only sold it on cos i found it pretty dull compared to the scoob hence trading it in for the type r. I'd had some paint bits done to it and mechanically it was mint.
2 months later I get a call saying the gearbox is faulty and he accuses me of selling him a lemon and ripping him off. First of its dealer beware so i could have told him to rollox, however because i don't go around ripping people off i told him i'd ask around for some answers to the symptoms.
Tried the usual pink relay in the engine bay(its an m3 thing), symptoms weren't typical for smg pump failure. So i asked him exactly what had happened, he said he'd parked it up and it had sat for a few weeks, then when he jump started it the gear box warning light was on.
Hang on a mo, it was fine till he let the battery go flat? So started then looking at has it dropped a sensor when the battery went etc. He went quiet for a few weeks then i get a text message to say it was sorted.
By letting it go totaly pancaked the battery had gone duff. A proper charge on a charging machine and hey presto, fault solved.
So after all that accusation i didn't even get an apology for be accused for what was his **** up. Left a very bitter taste in my mouth has to be said.
