Thinking back, there was one CBR600 that was actually holding me up last summer in the nationals - I was moaning at him all the while because he was going fast enough that I couldn't get past (MY00 UK Scoob) but slow enough to hold me up.

When he overtook 3 cars in one go, he probably thought he'd seen the last of me, until that is, I did them all straight after too

He couldn't ride for toffee!!!!!

Going on a good country run at the weekend with a mate on his Fazer(I'm driving not riding pillion),hopefully he'll keep the speeds fairly legal. Will then bump this up to top again.

In the interests of science, me and a mate decided to test the theory last night on the way back from a bike meet.

Me

Him - XR650 Supermoto

We used a 6-mile stretch of *cough* private road which I'd say would equally suit a scooby or a sportsbike. Good surface, no real bumps and lots of open fast bends coupled with some tighter ones. Matey's XR650 is geared for about 95mph maximum and has nowhere near as much acceleration as a sportsbike though.

Basically, I couldn't put much distance between us apart from the sections on which his top speed became a limiting factor (that wouldn't apply to a sportsbike). At the end of the road the gap between us was still the same. I drove damn hard and he was admittedly caning the XR for all it was worth, but I have no doubt at all that had he been on his Blade (or even just a 400 or 600) he'd have come past and I wouldn't be able to stay anywhere near.

Unhappy

Drunkendebacle

IIRC & it was the same accident, which I think it was, it killed the driver of a car on the other carriageway that happened to be minding there own business on their way to the airport Work collegue of a friend of mine So that woman's distraction wrecked not just her familly's life but someone else's too

All to be born in mind when "private roading" round corners, using mobiles whilst driving etc etc. You might be alright, but what is the effect on the other party & their familly.

Tiggs - Snetteron

Rainbird's Cossie (500+ BHP but can't corner) @ 1.24s
Stef - simillar
PTMW! - first ever outing on track & brakes only, otherwise standard 1.35s +
RS500 Superlight Caterham - 1.16s

Straights are quite long there, so bikes will make up time on these through acceleration and higher terminal speeds (before braking), hence lower laptimes than cars. Twistier, tighter more technical circuit will allow cars the advantage.

Anyone times for Brands Indy - cars/bikes?

puff- yep, the long straight at snett helps the bikes hence i have done 1.18 on my R1 (and im not racer fast- just fast trackday fast)

done uder 55ish round brands indy (but track was not 100% dry), 1.24 round goodwood and cant remember donno- i have it written down somewhere! i would imagine that the stop start of brands might help a car be closer to a bike (road car) but at donno i'd be surprise if any car was close to a fast bike out of the old hairpin and under the bridge! the same onto the straight!

Have lost several sports cars in the twisties when on the bike, thus proving that bikes are faster than cars. Have also lost Fireblades on the road whilst riding my (much beloved and sadly missed) Bros 650 ........ proving that slow bikes are faster than fast bikes. "Bugger", said Pooh, "the logic doesn't work."

Or maybe it's down to individual ability ....... put me on a bumpy road I know well and there wouldn't be any vehicle I couldn't keep with, assuming it's a normal driver/rider. Clearly if you stuck Schumacher (either)/Makinen/Rossi on the machine of their choice they'd murder me, but that's not the point.

Put me on a bumpy road I DIDN'T know and my two year-old son on his tricycle would be faster than me. I'd certainly be quicker in a car than on the bike, mainly because of the need to commit yourself far more on the bike.

I'll try & remember to check Snetterton in the rain vids when I get home...

Drunkenorgy
Please don't take offence at my insults, my tongue is very firmly in cheek when 'avin' a bitta banta on 'ere.
I get much more out of riding my Gixer than I could ever get in any car. Whatever you read into my first thread it was not in fact aimed at yourself but at as I said before at some of the Doctors of Physics who graduated from Grange hill with two cse's rather than Oxford with a first
I am not so up my own rectum that I would condescend to anyone on the bbs other than in jest with the odd smiley thrown in for good measure. fact is it makes the debate so much more lively when the odd "controversial" reply is banded about.
Cheers
Steve

W9GTR.I said that I felt it was not fair to take on an unarmed opponent, but you have proved more than capable. Serves me right for not reading the prevous posts closely enough. Anyway top choice on two wheels & four.
