So went to see one about 50 minutes drive from me. I've seen it for sale for a few days but was never into seeing it because the paintwork isn't the best. Anyway My friend said he would drive me. Ended up putting a deposit down on it. Should pick it up friday or so if everything goes well hopefully. Spec;
2004 blobeye sti wr1 #425/500 with DCCD box
107k ish miles (a bit high i know)
3 owners from new
full service history, serviced every 5k miles
basically completely stock bar a real carbon fiber bonnet and a fmic that isn't plumbed in but comes with pipework.
As I said paintwork isn't the best, but the price I'm getting her for leaves me enough to get it repainted in the same colour.
Also a cat D from a tiny bit of damage to front driver wing but it was not structural and isn't even registered as a cat d on the log book.
Final price: £6650
Owner was completely upfront and honest about every aspect of the car which I liked to. Says he just lost interest in it. Even bought new pads all around for me. Oil and tranny oil was all perfect. could not find any structural rust anywhere, including suspension towers/ wells. let her warm up well before taking her out for a drive too.
What do you all think.. good deal ?

However, I'd not be too happy with the Cat D registered car to be totally honest. It may not show on the logbook as cat D but it WILL still be registered as a cat D by the DVLA so you'll have trouble selling it when the time comes as it will no doubt put people off.
Secondly, I'd want a full inspection report of the front end damage to ensure that it's not bent anything structurally underneath. Chances are as they've fitted a carbon bonnet, I'll bet it was fitted after the accident as a replacement which would make me question who repaired it and why it didn't get a genuine bonnet fitted. Sounds like it MAY have been repaired on the cheap.
Sorry, but in my honest opinion, that's quite a high price for a high mileage cat D car, regardless that it's a rare WR1 model.

I love the WR1 models because they are more rare and more collectable.

I saw that WR1 on Gumtree recently. I thought it looked like a good buy for anyone not bothered about CAT D status, cool looking car.
Does it show its CAT D status with an HPI check?

So already having some minor issues with the car.. First one i've noticed a small leak. Its all over the drivers side steering boot, and some of the sump bolts up the back end where the tranny is. But no oil on the bottom of the actual sump..presume its a power steering leak, but ive not lost any p/s fluid. I have lost a good bit of oil though, was full saturday, now its about a third between low/full. So i'm not sure what it could be...
My main issue is the MPG. Obviously I didn't buy this car for fuel economy, but i get about 120-130 miles per tank. Surely that's not normal ?!. Could the engine light turned on by the missing lambda/decat be causing me to run super rich ?
Or maybe im just stupidly heavy footed ...

Something doesn't sound right there. I expect you have an engine oil leak from the block somewhere. Take the belly pans off to have a proper inspection and have a close look at the rocker cover gaskets either side and the gearbox to block area to check the main shaft clutch oil seal isn't shot. Certainly sounds like engine oil though as even a shagged engine won't burn that much.
I should add that checking engine oil on a Subaru is not simple. You can't check after driving the car as they just don't settle plus the dipstick picks up a lot of oil giving difficult readings sometimes. Always best to check it first thing in the morning before you start it. Remove dip stick, clean, slowly push back in and remove again to read.
Your MPG is an issue too. I would expect at least 200 miles per tank normally even on a tuned mapped car. Even driving heavy footed. Has it been remapped before? You may wish to take this to a specialist for a health check.
I'd be having words with the previous owner about the oil leak and condition.
