Thanks mate but unfortunately I received another notice a few weeks later - such bad luck - and already used the speed awareness lifeline back in Jan.

Update:
So for my foolish 54mph in a 30mph zone, yesterday I received 6 points and £1000 (yes one thousand) fine, payable by 2 May.
Btw the 30 zone is not signposted and is a section of dual carriageway. Police obviously enjoying hiding there!

I'm a little outraged that the offence was back in Oct and that they seemingly withheld their decision until fines were revised.

I know the CAB are limp at best, but you could try them for advice?

Or get a solicitor's free half hour...?

 

there would be a 30 sign somewhere, roundabouts can be deceptive where you cross a 30 going in but exit onto a dual carriageway, the 30 limit is maintained until the next speed sign but the natural tendency is to accelerate away from the roundabout.

Hi,
If road has street lights at prescribed distances - 30mph signs not required. It's assumed to be 30mph unless other limit is signposted at start of limit, with small repeaters on the lamp posts along length of road.

there is always a sign when you cross into the 30 zone, it's just remembering when you're still in it, the clue's are there of course.

just going out of town ( brighton) on single merging into double ( one way ) you used be able crank go straight 30-50 . Now theres signs a plenty telling you its STILL 30, STILL 30......lol

Wow, these new fines and points are serious stuff. So why isn't it an automatic 6 points and massive fine for using a mobile phone then??

Anyway, not that I condone speeding but it has me wondering if I should invest in a speed camera detector jobbie just in case of a lapse in concentration.

Are the modern ones any good at warning you of mobile cameras?

I checked with a solicitor today to learn that fines have been proportionate to the offenders income for a while now. The revised law rolled out today means it will be even more from now on, so I guess a grand isn't so bad
I've obviously been in the dark since my last speeding fine issued back in '95.

Well you bloody well deserved it, 54 in a 30. Obviously you're regular speeder with a SAC in January as well.

We can hope a sting in the pocket fine and increased premiums(which will be horrendous) for 5 years will force you off the road or alter your driving to be a sensible and safe road user.

The days are gone of speeding and stupid driving, cameras everywhere, police, council and ever growing private drivers with dashcams.

Yes in the circumstances of this discussion. Clearly there are extremes, but if somebody is driving 'normally' past a school, I want them looking at the road and surroundings, and not at their speedometer, so I don't find it odd at all. Even if a driver is not over the limit, I'd imagine a good chunk take their eyes off the road to see how fast they are going whenever they see a speed camera/trap/officer etc. It's still a mute point anyway, because as I said, and other have said, it's frequently at a standstill outside schools at dropping off and picking up times anyway. I'm much prefer a camera that books people for stopping on the school zigzags and thus impairing visibility, that happens nearly every time I go to pick our young'un up, but nothing seems to be done about it due to lack of resources

You should be driving by observing - far distance, middle distance, near distance, instruments, mirrors -and then repeat.

Id like to know how much you would be fined etc, If you where to steal a car and the police pursuit you and you drive dangerous at speeds over 100mph in a 30mph zone before being caught and obviously arrested???

Reckon the courts would give you a suspended sentence and disqualify you from driving and you would probably pay a lot less then £1000 skoobidude got fined!!!

As a law-abiding driver with tax/mot/car registered in your name/insured your a easy target for the police!!!

 

If you had a genuine sti bruv you could set the buzzer to beep as I have just before 8500rpm

 

They would just lump all that into the 'dangerous drive' (speeding, red lights, one way signs, keep left signs etc etc). Either a disqualification, jail term and/or heavy fine. But the primary offence would be the burglary/theft of the car.

Because your car is legit your easy to find, police pop your details into the database and send the offence straight to your address! A car that hasn't been registered with your details makes it a lot harder for them to find you!!!

Not that im saying that you should do to get away from speeding/parking fines etc, but a lot of people dont send the V5 off with there details to the DVLA when buying a used car, as ive had this happen to me and I got tickets through my door, lucky enough the guy was local and I gave his address/details and never heard of them again!!

 

But if you're law abiding, then wouldn't you be sticking to the speed limits anyway?
