How am I deluded? I had the same phone with a confirmed hardware fault and it was replaced. Your man here claims Apple confirmed a hardware fault, did nothing and thinks moaning on here will help.

OK so lets assume that they did say no, Julie over there with a jelly bean in her headphone socket, she can have one, but you you're not getting a replacement. The next offer is an out of warranty repair which I'm pretty sure is Ł100. So what would you do, get the thing repaired or moan about it on here hoping it will fix itself.

9 months and this is still on going?!
If a "genius" couldn't fix it I would have done one of three things;
a) fried the lightning port electronics with a piezo lighter (or similar) and claim warranty failure (naughty I know, but it ensures the phone is fully disassembled when main board is replaced during repaired, or entire phone is replaced (as the phone is faulty anyway its not that fraudy as there is no betterment or profiting from the situation).
b) If out of warranty (or warranty not applicable); Take out insurance on it against loss or damage. I don't condone fraud, but with your bad luck, you are bound to drop it overboard when the boom cracks you over the head.
C) Pop and pry the screen off with a suction cup and pry tools and physically check the aerial connection are properly seated on the board. Most likely this is the problem, as these connections are prone to detaching from shock and also corrode from sweat or moisture ingress...One of my old Samsungs suffered degraded signal that got worse and kept dropping 3G. I stripped it down, found green/blue corrosion on the gold aerial connector contacts, cleaned, it put it back together...sorted!
I did that off my own bat as there was no online info at the time, with iPhones there are loads of free how-to guides on strip downs and repairs as well as parts sources. The edges of the case of the ip6 is the aerials (more than one) those white rubber bits near the corners are the isolators dividing the aerial sections, the only way they go faulty is a protective case shorting it out by bridging the case sections together (so always test signal with bare phone, not with it in a protective case, be it Apple certified or not, same goes for adhesive screens). Or the phones chassis was replaced with a non-genuine replica with inferior quality. As your phone hasn't been repaired by a back street repairer (assuming here), it's most likely the issues is the connections inside the phone, some are these are are ring connectors that use screws to hold them down; corrosion can affect these. There is also a coaxial connecting wire with a mini press-fit connector, this can come loose, make poor internal contact, where the earth sheild is connected but the signal pin in the middle is making poor contact, usually from corrosion.
d) Cut your losses and eBay it. It's up to you if you want to be honest on the fault (city dweller in a good signal area may not even have a problem) ; they fetch good money even when wrecked and smashed to pieces (you may have to do this if you f**k up on step c )
Don't moan about Apple customer service until you have tried Hewlet Parkard's. I heard it was bad, but having since needed to use it...with a full on-site repair warranty. It is quite quite possibly the worst IT support service out there to the point it may as well not exist!

I'm pretty sure apple now have a record of the device , so the semi fraud route seems dodgy
not sure how youd be able pick an inner city dweller to sell to ...
ripping it all apart is pretty daunting ( thanks for info ), iv attempted sony ray - partial successfully
iv sailed 120 miles across france and back without smashing it so far ..!

Here's what I'd do, go back in and have them confirm in writing that it's a hardware fault. Then claim on your warranty. Saying that, your phone would need to be showing no external damage.

Apple don't care where you bought it. Do some research and moan at Apple not us.
Here's a checklist to see of the 2 year stuff applies to you... I'd say yes.
Use this checklist to see if you could try and use the EU rule:
• The goods were purchased no longer than two years ago
• The store will not provide a refund or repair because you are returning the item after their return period has ended, usually one year
• You are reporting the fault within two months of discovering it
• The goods show no signs of damage through your actions or misuse.

Phone ran perfectly for an hour this morning 4g. Then 9:30 sharp switched to No Service.
Got it working again on 4g downstairs off and on
Out the house , total ****.... Sometimes get something but basically 100% unreliable
I think it's somehow piggy backing off Wi-Fi

Hardware fixing itself again, I wish I had some of that self healing stuff. Well either that of you need to have a word with your service provider.
Similar thing happened to me the other day, I was in my car and the road noise kept changing, high pitch for a few minutes then a low rumble, then a different noise. I can't believe it makes a different noise and yet the tyres are the same. Just can't work it out.
