Very pleased for you Alcazar, I know how tough it is having to wait for the results after an investigation. I wish you good health!

Health should always be the priority. A health crisis sends the 'same-sh7t-different-day' miseries to the bottom of the moaning list. Health is wealth and it must be looked after. One can even stop moaning too much, if the health is sound.

None if you are careful. You need to eat a decent amount of fibre and drink plenty of fluid to maintain a regular bowel regime, then you'll have no problems at all.

But getting dehydrated, or worse, constipated, can cause the fecal matter to enter one of the little side passages, where it CAN become infected and you end up with diarroeha for ages plus flu-like symptoms. Not nice.

If that happens you back off on the fibre, but drink more water, and see your doctor if the flu-like symptoms persist. They prescribe an antibiotic that is aimed at the colon.

Since I was diagnosed I eat brown bread with seeds, an apple a day, other fruit when I remember, (or stuff with fruit in it, even raspberry jam works you), loads of vegetables like cabbage and broccoli, and drink plenty (of water).

Apparently 50% or more of folk my age have it, it rises to 80% as you get older.

Best of luck.

Cheers mate, I have a constant winded pain in my colon, never a sharp pain, mild constipation, feeling like I need to wee when I don't need to and occasional cloudy urine. Docs just look at me funny.

No, stating i'm not in pain just constipated. I've had 4 blood tests, 5 urine tests, prostate tests and ultrasound on my kidneys and bladder all coming back clear. My tummy winded feeling does sound like diverticula but not sure why I feel like I need to wee more, unless my colon is swelling into my bladder or prostate etc.

Apart from some diverticulitis in the colon, all else is clear.

Looks like I'll be around for a while yet, then...LOL

I was diagnosed with diverticulitis a few years ago after being rushed to hospital for a suspected burst appendix. Worse part about it was the antibiotics; I was stuck in hospital for five days and dropped a stone and a half...

Mrs is vegan though so that diet and not straining too hard means it rarely gives me any grief, you normally get a bit of a twinge as a warning when you haven't been eating enough fiber.

You will be around to keep moaning for some time to come

With diverticula do you get a lot of grumbling in your large intestines? Are ribbon shaped stools normal?

Not really, if I've been a d!ck (Mrs has gone away for a few days and I've eaten like a teenager) I get tightness in lower left side of abdomen and I want to take a cr@p all the time.

Not entirely sure what you mean by ribbons shaped stools but its certainly softer whilst suffering.

Matt you should take a trip to the quacks if you have any issues at all, internet can't give you definitive answers

No and no.

I'd be seeing my GP.

Hi,
Have you checked to see if you are gluten intolerant?
This can cause symptoms like you describe.
Lay off bread and wheat for a week and see if your symptoms disappear.
That's what my wife did!
Cheers

Hi,
Glad you are feeling better!

Most supermarkets cater for food intolerances in their "free from" sections and you can easily get gluten free flour, bread, pasta, cakes and biscuits.
Fruit, veg, meat and fish are all gluten free anyway - so is chocolate and ice cream!
Cheers
Steve

There's loads of choice. Mrs had a member of staff with a gluten intolerance and was always asking me to get stuff for staff do's, from Sainsburys.

Had some gluten free ice cream last night and felt terrible after, so now wondering if it could be Lactose Intolerance

Come to think of it McDonald's Milkshake and chocolate bars have been giving me the squits whilst my tummy has felt bloated this last year.

Right.
So it's really up to you to see what it is your body doesn't like.

You are going to have to start by grouping foods. Remove one group, see if it's any better.

Once you get some relief, go to that group and analyse further by cutting each MEMBER of the group at a time.

best of luck.

Is it just me or have you not realised that the solution is right in front of you.

Seriously though, if you eat cr4p like mcdonalds it's no wonder you've got dodgy guts.

And for the low vitamin D get out in the daytime in the sun instead of wandering about at night in fields with torches.

You might also want to make sure that your hands are clean whilst eating things like burgers, chips and bars of chocolate.

Had anyone had the capsule endoscopy here?

My mother in law has just chickened out from the traditional one, so she may go private for this capsule one. I've been told that it's available on NHS in some parts of England but not in Wales.

You orally intake a capsule size camera down which does the job, but the only downside it that you have to fish it out of your excretion (yukkkk!), wash it, and hand over back to the hospital staff. But at least you don't have to go through the invasive traditional procedure. Limited use but private hospitals are doing it. Results are apparently good; according to the Google.

TBH, the traditional one is no problem, they give you sedation and it's just like swallowing food.

You can breathe properly, swallow saliva etc during the process.

Only thing I found odd was coming out of the sedation I couldn't shut up........

It's from the bottom end in her case, alcazar. She's 77 and too frail due to numerous ailments she has. I believe that she can go through the traditional one under the sedated state, but the doctor recently ended up giver her a 'sample' one without alarming her, when she went to see her with her overactive bowel issue. She told the doc that the sample endoscopy wasn't uncomfortable, but she told us contrary. now she's sh7tting herself (metaphorically) with the thought of it. She cancelled her appointment and awaits one after Christmas. But I don't think she'll go for it at all.

The psychological impact of the dread from that traditional procedure is that she now says that her bowels are no more as frequent, and she feels better with this issue, now.

Everyone in the family thinks that she should have it done; may it be a capsule one.

I'd agree...get it done. Better to know than have it hanging over you.

The colonoscopy isn't fun, and if I had to have another I'd opt for sedation, not entonox. It was uncomfortable and the farting afterwards had to be heard to be believed.

But I reckon the worst part is the almost 24 hours of induced diarroeha from the Moviprep they send you to clear out the bowel. I was so glad we had a bidet...when my mate had one done he suffered thew ring of fire during that little lot, which REALLY doesn't help when they make the first insertion.....
