Lol the sites having fun tonight. Early days then Hodgy hopefully she won't be a persistent whiner/barking like mine as it's not fun if they are.
Lol at the washing up and yes chasing game is exactly what they shouldn't do but what they all want to do more than anything and the biggest problem I have with mine when working/training her.
Hodgy if any names on the family tree are in red that denotes them being a field trial champion. Mines littered with them but clearly she missed out the day those genes were handed out!

and yes he whines as soon as he get in the car, I'm sure it's the anticipation of where he's going (the rabbit hunt)
Yep whining and shaking is the sheer excitement taking them over. Mine shakes like a leaf and people go aww she's cold and I have to explain no she is just massively excited.
I have 2 Labradors that can fart for Britain thankfully the GSP doesn't -yet!

yeah, early days
the first night was hell, the second better, she only cried for 3 or 4 hours
Han got up at 3am to take out for a wee etc
the 3rd night much better and last night she was really really good - slept through, no wining and was lying awake when Han went down @ 7.00am
we are acutely aware that bad habits now will be v difficult to stop
our battle in the next few days is to teach her to stop trying to get onto your lap at every opportunity (although hard because she is so cute and it lovely to be wanted)

ultimately I am under no illusion how much work/responsibility they are
which is why I was always hesitant - but Han and the kids were really keen, and I know they will rise to the challenge
we have some family friends who bought a wired haired vizla, (sort of GWHP) and they are an example of how not to do it
it gets zero exercise from what I can see - they have a term called a "lazy walk" which consist of letting out into the garden

aahh really annoys me, actually it is quite a sweet dog, but always jumps up and gets overly exited, I suspect it is bored
It will feel lost as all they want is commands to know what to do, to have a purpose. I'm surprised it hasn't eaten their house if it isn't getting any mental stimulation. When you get to take yours out Hodgy you will likely see it stop running and turn and look at you, this is it looking for you to tell it what to do whether that be to come back or if working it for example to get into cover. When it does this stopping and looking back at you tell it a command even if it's just to recall it because if ignored it will think it's fine to do it as it pleases as you aren't giving it instructions.
For me, GWHP dog's cracking look cracks me up! Its 'by-birth' shabby beard looks like an intentionally grown accessory, which he wears all the time; just to look cool.

Luckily for you Hodgy, you love kids so it doesn't matter if it's a new born all over again .
I'd love a second dog but my fiancée doesn't. Not sure how we're going to come to a compromise to be honest...
well it does have advantages
yesterday evening we were trying to keep her awake and active until 10.30pm ish
so she would sleep through the night
I had a go from about 7 to 9, but then asked the kids to take in the garden / patio for a run, and they played with it really nicely until it was knackered - then they put it in its cage
I could then finish my glass of wine in peace!!!
it slept really well, so fingers crossed tonight

Stick a cigar in its mouth, put a cap other way round on its head, your driving shades on its eyes and some bling jewellery with $ design around its neck. It may not exactly ever look like some Snoop Dogg, but it will still look like a proper gangsta with its beard and the mouch complete.
Another thing comes to mind about this type of dog. Why has its wired fur been so reluctant to grow on its body that it's so very randomly distributed? Its mouth is so blessed with fur, but the rest its body looks as if it has been in a fight with some victorious cats that have pulled its hair something chronic. Weird!

I reckon it's all to do with hunting and facial protection, the coat repels water very well, maybe that why the bugger loves lying in muddy puddles / anything wet
to thin the coat in the spring we use a 'Simpson coat king ' stripping comb
pulls out the dead hair excellent for dogs with heavy coats
No problem, just things I had drummed into me by a mate. The looking for a command can be really subtle so you need to pay close attention to them and whilst you aren't working yours it's still important for the dog and you for it to know you are in charge and you tell it what to do.
I was walking mine on a beach last week and started talking to a family who had a Vizsla puppy the same age as mine, 11 months old and even though theirs was a pet it was still going through all the same things that mine as a working dog has gone through in terms of behaviour and training it. It pointed on game naturally, it wanted to chase game etc so even from pet lines they can still have a strong urge to do the same as pure working lines.
And thanks, mines 1 next week and tiny for her age so clearly the runt however she is going through a growth spurt thankfully so there is hope yet she will get bigger as they can grow upwards until 18 months and broaden until 3 years of age. I've been feeding her as much RAW food as possible to try and get weight on her too.
