So Brexit seems to be a good thing then.

This is one of the key reasons i supported staying in the EU.
The world is small, interconnected these days. The old notion of "sovereignty" is redundant. If there are genuine asylum seekers we should welcome them and do our bit for the greater good.
Although we are an island, we cannot act as though we can just look after our own interests and expect that will work out for us. We are part of the wider world, we expect to flourish in the wider world.
Leaving the EU will ultimately be seen as a mistake.

Why should we, Mutti said she would take them all- catastrophic decision. Ever since Germany has been shipping them back on the sly. France offers nothing, other than a good beating, oh and a dingy for the onward journey. No EU country in the north, in fact anywhere in the EU wants these illegal migrants.
Germany accepted its responsibility to share the burden of Asylum seekers coming to the EU, as did Sweden and Austria also took a fair few, particularly given its size.
I have absolutely no problem taking in refugees from war-torn countries. Yes there will be some using asylum as a back door for immigration, but those with no genuine claim will be sent back and that is right too.
There is also the same problem in Germany as the UK, where there is a shrinking population meaning a lowering of the pension pot, and a sense of entitlement which means Germans don't want to do the sh1tty jobs. The difference in Germany compared to the UK, is that Germans are quite happy to allow immigrants in to top up their pension funds and do the jobs they don't want to! But then Germany also invests more in Schools, hospitals, social housing and the other important social infrastructure which means the domestic population don't suffer due to the effects of immigration, while the UK invests the absolute bare minimum - "taking our jobs" has never been an issue in the UK, but taking our school places and housing more so! Something the right have jumped on to justify leaving the EU, when the real problem was the lack of the UK investing in itself!

Germany set a catastrophic precedence by inviting on mass those coming up through Turkey and across the Med on boats. It was invitation that now is taken as an open door policy of the EU. This is in-fact wrong, Germany did a selfish act, ignoring EU policy at the time.
I've been in Germany and seen dozens of immigrants sat outside train and bus stations on their iphones. The local Germans are not happy at all and give them abuse.all the time. Far too many were allowed to come and have upset the Germans. Not to mention the women raped at Christmas events by gangs of African men.
There were very few genuine migrants. That's why most are being sent back.

Train stations in Germany, particularly in big cities, have always been a magnet for unsavoury types which the majority of Germans are not happy about. This is mostly related to the fact that the red-light districts are nearly always adjacent to the train stations. This is nothing new since the migration crisis and has always been a mix of degenerate Germans and immigrants, and in most cases the problem around train stations in Germany is less now than when I first arrived in 1997!
As for the gang rapes, not wishing to belittle the seriousness of the event, but to put it into context, it was a few women in one city in Germany (Cologne), on one day, over one Christmas period, by one small group of immigrants. Not as you would imply some mass nationwide organised gangs serially raping hundreds of women! The only reason the story made so much press is because gang rapes in general are very uncommon in Germany and the nation was quite shocked by the story regardless of the perpetrators! Back in the UK, gang rapes are so common they barely make the local press! There's probably something to be said in favour of legalising prostitution in this story
But what do I know, you are clearly the expert on all thing Germany 'cos you once visited or read something on a right wing forum somewhere

Agree the women/girls raped in the UK mainly by Asian gangs, quite a number not UK nationals, They should be hunted down, prosecuted and those non UK, deported. Too many wokery attitudes to dealing with these scum
Re Germany, Ive been more than a dozen times to Germany in the last 10 years. On one occasion, Ive spent over 6 weeks touring many parts of Germany. So Ive seen quite a bit, observed too what goes on in cities compared to the countryside.

Wow, a six week trip to Germany, you truly are an expert compared to my lowly 22 years living and working here, I bow to your superior knowledge discussing these subjects regularly with your German friends and colleagues!

Oh I think this will be repeated for a lot of things, despite them being told it would be worse than expected

The fishing industry was one of the big supporters of Brexit and fishing rights were one of the big sticking points in the Brexit negotiations!
So they got their Brexit, they got their fishing rights and now they are complaining they can't export their catch because of Brexit regulations

I do not care, you reap what you sow. People like Andy (i.e the 1%) will be fine, so he is cool with it. It is the working class people who got sucked in that will suffer.
But ultimately, I have no sympathy for Leave voters who get hurt. That includes my father who voted Leave.

Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving
I think Remainers will be remembered like Nostradamus, as they predicted all of this

I do the same with my nieces in New Zealand, otherwise the deliveries get delayed ages and they get lumped with VAT and import duties.
You get a bit of a foreign currency hit on your credit card, but its a lot less than VAT and duties, although you'll also have to pay the rip-off Britain prices which have gone up even more because of Brexit!

"Simply turning up and waving our flag and trying to establish our credentials is not a guaranteeing trade in other parts of the world,"
This might have worked 50 years ago - now only in a 70 year old brexiteers mind

Best to order stuff direct in the UK, you can usually give an invoice address in Germany and delivery address in UK.

Yeah I would normally do that but I have this brand new Garmin Fenix 6S Pro smartwatch I got free from work and it is to small for my fat wrist and I don't wear watches anyway so though that Katie might get some use out of it but there is no way I am posting it over if they have to pay stupid amounts of VAT and duty on it.
I've got pretty small wrists though

Another benefit of EU membership the UK has now lost...
https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-55749954
Companies are now free to geo-block the UK and prevent customers buying stuff cheaper from other countries.
I had a case of this a couple of years ago when I wanted to buy some ski gear from a webshop with different portals in different countries. The same items on the Austrian site had a 50% discount while the German store listed at full price. The Austrian site wouldn't let me use a German address for the purchase. I contacted the store and they said if I lived in Germany I had to buy from the German store. I then contacted the EU consumer protection office and they confirmed that blocking me from buying with the same conditions as the Austrian store was illegal and sent me all the relevant legislative references which I could forward to the store. The store then agreed to sell to me at the Austrian price and to my surprise, a couple of days later, their prices across all EU sites were unified. I'm not sure if the EU consumer protection office pursued the issue further themselves or if the policy change was just because of my complaint, but I'm happy the store did the right thing and stopped their geo-blocking policy! Incidentally, the unified price on the items I bought was the discounted price

There does appear to fair few companies deciding its hardly worth trading with europe or the other way round
lets hope the brexit pledge of trading with usa / china / anyone else picks up soon to take up the slack
or bonkers boris liable to last less time than trump / nige
