Thanks ,, the running gear is more or less finished , just need to upgrade the brakes to somthing a bit better as they hardly stop the thing , it's the body next so need to find a VW specialist that isn't going to charge the world to do what I'm after as I'd like it done inside and out and back to bare metal really

Seeing as the van is no longer air cooled the rear vents don't really do much as the engine gets plenty of air from under the van so I got my little bro to make me up some pre preg Carbon covers for them and very happy with them

After driving the van around for a bit the turbo engine and VW box don't work very well together as the VW ratios are very short and I'm having to rev the nuts off the engine to get any normal speeds out of it ,,, so my mind is made up to reverse a Subaru box and replace the VW one , this will allow for a much stronger set up aswell as giving me the gearing I'm after

Great thread and build buddy !!
I have a vw 1953 buggy that one of my customers fancies a Subarau engine in ware did you get your conversion kit from and also have you used the Subarau dash etc ??
I was contemplating sending it to a company down south tsr but after reading reviews I'm a little unsure and may end up doing it myself just the time involved that may restrain me from that but if items can be sourced easily enough then I may just give it a bash.

Dont send it to TSR as they have a terrible rep ,, done everything myself to this one apart from the loom conversion as I wanted to keep a lot of the OBD2 stuff

None of the Subaru dash was used , only Subaru stuff in the van runs the engine and that's it , so it's kind of stand alone in that respect

Still has the key chip that sits under my rear seat and it immoblises the van when removed for security

All my conversion parts and loom conversion was done by rich @ RJES.com ,, he does the bell housing conversion and most of the parts needed ,,, there are other places that do the kits but his is the best in my opinion ,, some others are smallcar.com and rocky mountain westy.com but these use conversion plates not the bell housing ,,, I'd go back to RJES is I was doing it again

If you had all the parts there I suspect it could be done in about a week without rushing

My gearbox , bell housing (fits Subaru engine) and mount and output shaft will be coming out soon enough to be replaced with a reversed Subaru box so they will be up for sale

£600 takes the bell housing and gearbox , gearbox mount and modified output shaft so a full Subaru clutch can be used

Any more question just ask

thought id make a clear engine cover for the camper so I don't have to remove it every time someone wants a look lol

the carpet inside has seen better days now and has a oil mark or two so I thought id cover it with something a bit fun lol

fully road legal and all works as it should , i.e. drives stops and is still a full camper with all the camper parts working aswell

drives good for a 1981 camper lol , brakes are shocking but thats just how they are lol , I'm currently bringing the rest of the van up to date ,, fitting power steering in the next couple of weeks as its very heavy to steer at the mo

I really love this, well done bud

What power will it be putting out? Do you have many options for upgrading the brakes?

Having had a 67 Beetle, and 72 Bay, I could definitely see something like this in my future!
