Drone recommendation

Its can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be really.
I would stay away from cheap Chinese stuff, yes, I know most of the drones and associated parts are made in China, but they are not manufactured to the same standards that companies like DJI set.
The likes of DJI, TBS etc are top brands, and some of their offerings are expensive. But in this game you do get what you pay for.
FPV flying is easier than flying line of sight, as long as you have a good understanding of your surrounds, and the surroundings of where the drone will be flying, you will love FPV flying. It really is almost as if you were in the drone yourself!
Really depends on what type of FPV flying you want to do, but to start with, and to not waste too much money, I would like at getting one of these mini FPV drones to see what you think about the whole idea of FPV.
http://www.hubsan.com/ do a few good starter FPV drones, but I am not sure if they do any that use the goggles.
If you like FPV flying, then look at either buying a ready made FPV setup, or build your own.
Building your own is fun and also you will learn quite a bit, but there is a LOT to learn about building a good drone. Things like motor thrust, prop size, drone weight, batteries, flying times, flight control systems, transmitters and receivers, these are just a few of the basics, and you need to fully understand them before building a drone. Otherwise it might never actually take off, or worst still, fall out of the sky from 100 meters!
What ever you do, be safe, they are not toys and are dangerous if not respected.

I've always fancied a drone since the DJI was used in the Top Gear special, the Botswana one I think. I'd love one like that but too expensive for me.
The FPV sounds fantastic fun and i've seen the adverts for the new racing league going to be shown on TV, can't remember which channel, probably Sky. But I think it would end up being a bit like the RC cars I had and feel like toys plus the goggles look to be £300 on their own. I think i'd be more into flying for photography in the long run but would have to be producing decent pics and video so again limits me to the expensive stuff. I live in the New Forest and near the coast so there are some amazing places local to me to capture with a drone.
I've flown a 4ch mini helicopter which can be a right handful being so small and susceptible to the slightest breeze and these look in comparison to be far easier to manage.

What do you guys think of the Hubsan H109S X4 PRO 5.8G Drone:
http://www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopte...10.html?wid=21
Gearbest have it on sale for £284 for the standard edition which looks a bargain for what you are getting. I've never bought from them though so do you get hit with import tax?
For under £300 it's got all the features I want (the 3 axis gymball would be nice but can be added later). I've not seen anything better for the money?

have a look at the upair chase one, http://www.banggood.com/UPair-UP-Air...-p-995265.html
around the same money but so much more features, i was looking at it myself but got a great deal on a phantom 2 vision plus v3 so bought that instead.

Thanks. I would love a DJI however for the money I couldn't refuse the Hubsan as I got it for £286 which seems a lot of features for the price compared to what everything else costs like the DJI etc. I'm just a bit nervous ordering from Gearbest.
One of the selling points is the flight time of 25-40 minutes because I had been looking at the cheaper drones about £100 such as the Syma X8HG but they only fly for 8 minutes. Plus I wanted the GPS return to home and at least 1 axis on the camera gimbal to start off with. The FPV is just an added bonus.
I've also already bought a Hubsan H107C HD to play with as a toy for Christmas day to practice with and try out video recording although it will only be close range with how small it is and limitations on range. The H109 I want to use for aerial recording at much further distances as I live near the coast and by the New Forest and think an aerial view would be amazing to record and see.

Be interesting to read how you get on with it.
I have a Phantom 3 Advanced. Used it quite a bit in the summer ready for taking it to Ukraine for a Chernobyl visit and killed it first time out
I lost contact with it and it clipped a building when the Return To Home kicked in.
All back together now and will be taking it again next October.
It's really easy to fly and quite intuitive I think. A mate bought a Yuneec Typhoon Q500 and, personally, I think it's a bit **** for the price. It doesn't hold your hand nearly as well as the DJI app.

Very nice Edd!
I can't wait to get mine now but I guess it will be January some time now. I won't be rushing out and flying it either as I will need to remember the manual page for page before I try flying it so I don't forget anything. I've got the 107 to play with from Christmas day anyway to keep me occupied and will post up footage from that. It only cost me £32 but youtube footage looks pretty impressive for such a cheap toy.
I've flown 3 and 4 channel rc mini helis so i'm hoping that will help with control, especially the 4 ch as that's hard work when taken outside in the slightest of wind so these much larger drones look far more stable to control.

Just looked up the high edition of the 109 with 3 axis gimbal and it's £622 from Banggood!!! I'd get a DJI for that money.

The wavy recording is nicknamed jello, for what the Hubscan cost, you might as well have got an older P3,
or just picked a cheap 2nd hand Spark up, same money as the Hubscan,
The images are comparable to the toy drones like an Eachine E58 for example, which are around £60 with 3 batteries.

As for the toy drones at £60 i'd like to see them fly 1km and for 25 minutes
