16GB's a joke, I can see special use case such as point of sale and similar but selling to the general public, not great. I only get away with 128GB because I have 200GB on iCloud.
All my documents are stored there, it's a great way to work across all my devices, now with collaboration that I hope has finally been cracked. At least 16 years worth of photos, movies, bla bla bla.

It's a smartphone, so I dump everything on there
Sure it all backs up to iCloud (now full..need to pay some subs ) and PC, but I have a music collection in a high bitrate (HiFi snob), lots of pics (of engine bays in pre/post assembly for personal reference), offline translation apps (my Spainish is hopeless), as well of recorded footage from my CCTV when the pikeys have been loitering around my house whilst I'm at work. Obviously capacity gets guzzled up rather quickly.
Would be nice if I could shove in micro sd card though. But that wouldn't fit into Apple's business model...sandisk would benefit more than Apple if they provided an SD slot.
All my storage is on my NAS, easily accessible with an App, anywhere and anytime.
These SD Cards, once they mature into devices will be very welcome indeed. - Not backward compatible with current micro sd format however.
The new UFS memory cards from Samsung rely on the UFS 1.0 Card Standard (single 5.8 Gbps lanes) published earlier this year. Samsung intends to offer UFS cards with 32, 64, 128 and 256 GB capacities. The top-of-the-range 256 GB UFS card will offer sequential read performance up to 530 MB/s and sequential write performance up to 170 MB/s. As for random performance, then Samsung declares 40,000 read IOPS and 35,000 write IOPS for the 256GB version.

10 terabytes, do you have a pet parrot, wooden leg and only spend pieces of eight? Either way that's a lot of data, keeping it on one device is foolish, you should consider using other people's computers to kept a copy for you, some call it the cloud.
Cards are all well and good, but they're a pain in the ****, every year I need them less and don't miss them at all. Amazing what they can do, pretty sure I saw 1 terabyte!

I use a Synology for my storage too. And guess what, it has something called RAID, yes thats right Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. An old technology.
You want to store your digital life in the cloud, well there is nothing stopping you. I just happen to enjoy the fact that I have control over my data. Its safe, secure and well backed up on my encrypted NAS in my own home.

Synology just 'works' too and can be used for about a bilion more interesting things than whatever Apple want their eco system fans to work.
You may well think that, but when it comes to back up's the Time Capsule is hard to beat. Here's why.
You might think your device "Just works" and yes it probably does show up as a drive when you attach it, but a £2 USB drive does that, when I say "Just works" I mean I plug it in and have an exceptional back up solution up and running... just like that. As an example, if I delete a contact - but could be anything, documents, pictures - I open contacts, hit the Time Machine icon - built into OSX - and it shows all versions of my contacts going back years, I select the contact I deleted and restore it. That's what I'm talking about when I say "just works"
Now, if I was looking for something that after extensive configuration and ongoing maintenance would download illicit files from Torrent sites for me yes you definitely win there [claps]

Why would anybody wish to store TB's of pirated content on their own storage when it can be streamed legally via a server in the Netherlands?!

This technology is not limited to Apple or a Time Capsule, you do realise that don't you?
Time Machine can backup to any drive, be it local or remote, not just a Time Capsule!
I honestly don't think I have ever come across somebody so closed minded towards different tech manufacturers as you are. Blinded by the sheen of the Apple logo!

We were talking about Time Capsule, NOT Time Machine, they are different, you do know that right?
DSM supports Time Machine, there is even an especial section in the gui to deal with it, so try again!
Why would I want to plug anything in when I can Time Machine over the network? Who needs desk space taken up by various drives when they can be stored in the server room?
The data we store is primarily made up of website backups, SQL backups, customer data, transaction data, images of products, videos of products, software products, linux distros, Windows ISO's, OSX ISO's and various other files.
At what point did I say that the data centre is at my home? Of course its not, but guess what, I use a 256-bit AES encrypted VPN to connect between the data centre and my home. Safe, and secure.
Yes, you are right, QNAP is a load of junk, replace it with a Synology running DSM and thank me later!
