I think so yes, maybe it gets dried with the hair drier too, but I'd rather not think about that

Well that all makes sense, so lets hope this was a one off situation, especially as they really are a very nice family with a lovely house quite close by, I quite like both of them, which is rare for me as most people are idiots and generally tend to get on my nerves which is why I spend most of my time in the middle of nowhere with just my dog for company.

I doubt it ditch, probably ingrained in their nature by now.
People that lived in our house before us had cats and dogs. It stank, first thing we did was rip living room carpet up, that stank. Luckily floor underneath was original floorboards so hired floor sander and varnished, which gets mopped regularly.

After our cats died, we replaced bedroom carpet. Previous owner had badly laid the carpet and underlaid it with newspapers! Needless to say you could see from the newspaper where it had been covered in p!ss.

This is getting funnier.

How many people do you know that have been randomly/non-randomly attacked by little cats; in compare to the dogs causing minor to fatal injuries on people?

My cats sleep with me. Sometimes, they take the duvet off my face with their sharp claws; in order to wake me up in the morning. Never ever EVER any of my cats caused me a deliberate or random injury for no reason.

Some people get hissed or scratched by others' cats because they try to stroke them; thinking "Oh, what a powerless cute creature it is, so I'm gonna go ahead and moider it". Well hang on. You need to understand that cat's not that into being moidered for it possesses less slave-like and more master-like qualities. It's not your b1tch. So keep your hands to yourself, random humans!

The ones that get scratched by their own cats could be irritating their cat in an OTT way. I did that; thinking that I was only tightly and repeatedly cuddling my Rubix the fat cat, but he clawed me. My fault, not his. Other than that, perhaps you never gave affection to your cat, so the friendship bond simply lacks. No wonder your cat sometimes raises its claws at you when you threaten its territory or make it feel uncomfortable. You don't like the cats, you don't have to adopt them- simple. It's not fair on the cats. That's the reason I won't have a dog. I don't mind others having dogs, but I'm not very fond of them. Dog's constant attention seeking; infantile demands; their indecently dangling bollixes in public; their indecent humping in public; dog smell and the responsibility to walk them every day etc.; I don't want to do it. Therefore, me having a dog won't be fair on the dog. I'm a good mummy to my cats, though.

I must say that some cats do have more defensive temperament than other cats. Territorial threat, feral attitude, past abuse, unfamiliarity with humans etc. can be responsible to such temperament.

In that case, rise above the smells in their house caused by the cats, and value your friendship with them. I'm sure they also ignore when you stink of your dog.

Cat flew at girlfriends face when she was child . Don't know the crircumstances mind ...

I don't think cat can even be mans best 'friend' , its not in their nature .

funny thing is the more you ignore a cat the more it wants to be friendly ..

You must consider that your girlfriend is from Zimbabwe; a country inundated with feral and wild cats. They shouldn't even be expected to become best friends to the humans. They are more like big cats than small, cuddly Western cats. That's where she experienced this incident. It's same in India. Indian little cats are also wild. They are not comfortable with getting friendly with the humans. It's different here in the West. Over past 4,000 years, cats have been domesticated and have become friends to the humans here. That's why here in the UK I've homed 3 cats so far, whereas back in India, we always had dogs. Indian cats run away from you and live in the wilds. They only visit or live rough in towns and cities for the sake of the food waste. I'm fortunate to be friends with my cats. I always dreamt of becoming friends with the cats since I played with the big cats' cubs in India. My dad was a forest officer, so we had a privilege to nurse the tiger and lion cubs. I'm so glad that I found little cats in this country to exchange my infinite affection with.

Sounds nasty, think I shall be side stepping any future invites

dpb, Yes they did seem rather keen to be my friend, but I was having none of it, thankfully neither of the two that were around tried to do the old scent wipe on me, because I really don't like that, mind you probably didn't feel the need as I was probably covered in the stuff after sitting down, I don't like it when peoples animals force themselves on me and it's not something I do to other peoples animals either.

Yes, I tried reviving my very fond childhood memory in Thailand with a couple of tiger cubs....:

....but it wasn't the same. They (4-month old babies like the one in the pic as well as the mature ones) were far too submissive and ever lethargic to be real. Even the ten-footer mature big wild cats were behaving like domestic cats; playing with dangling objects on strings, getting their tail picked by random human idiots- one after another and getting smothered by them all over. Very undignified and not very humane for the animal.
