I think it probably happens less now, but we see more of it due to the advanced in technology.

In my opinion and from what I've read the people who believe they love children are not a threat in the abduct and abuse sense and should be able to seek help and support. Normally I'd say someone's preference is theirs to own but in the case of children, no matter how clean the motives a child is going to get impacted. Convincing a child they love you and that love allows for sexual contact wouldn't be difficult for an adult conveying love and that isn't acceptable in my mind, I think there is room for levels of counselling, etc when the person is genuine in their believe.

Those who abuse, directly or indirectly are selfish animals and I feel their actions if proven should result in a more sever punishment. Castration, long prison sentences and in some cases death.

No, I've been adverse to capital punishment for as long as I can remember. In fact I had a good conversation with my pastor about corporal punishment the other day. He's open to the idea that the cane be re-introduced in to schools and I'm opposed.

well I'm against that too

in fact hitting children full stop - and that would even encompass "smacking"

no need imo, I have never hit or smacked my children

I agree in principle with this.
I think it's offensive to victims to practise a softly softly approach to molesters and murderers. Take the killers of Lee Rigby as an example. They were caught bang to rights and there's no question in my mind that they forfeit every right they have to life. I would apply the same rationale to the vile perpetrators of child abuse, be it sexual, sadistic, or both. There will always be graduations of severity of the crime and the intention of the act must also be taken into account, but for the most extreme cases where the is no doubt of guilt, let the axe fall.
We aren't hard enough on offenders of all kinds in this country. If published penalties were consistently, fairly, and justly applied we would discourage many unlawful actions from something as simple as speeding right up to child abuse and murder.
The problem lies here...

I'm a Christian (RC) and I feel death is the only solution to this horrible crime no matter how much therapy is given.I knew someone who was abused as a child by her father she wrote a very Interesto book about her childhood.

Agree except I would tap a child on the hand if said child was sticking its fingers into an electrical socket or perhaps running across a road without thinking. In 99% of case a change of voice will do the trick. David

PS I always find it interesting watching a lion family dealing with over playful cubs. Mum will just give them a mild cuff to keep then in line.

So you don't mind the killers of Lee Rigby having a nice, comfy cell, no bills and 3 meals a day, for the rest of their lives? All at the tax payers expense?

What about Ian Huntley?

When people commit crimes like that, they have no right to live. An eye for an eye!

What gives someone the right to end someone else's life in such a deliberate, premeditated way?

I would pay to watch scum like that hanging!

No, not really

An "eye for an eye" all sounds very Islamic/old testament though

And

"what gives someone the right to end someone's life"

Indeed, no right imo

So if a sick paedo kidnapped your 5 year old son, raped and tortured him until he died, you'd be happy with the paedo going to prison for a few years?

Or would you like to get a baseball bat and do the same to the paedo until he died, just like he had done to your son?

I know what 90% of parents would do!

And I'd do the same but somehow or other you would have to step back and hard or impossible as it would be allow the law to do its job. Not sure I could do that but that's the way it has to be. dl

You don't need to "hit" a child, but a smack one that wouldn't cause more than a laugh if playing can be very effective if followed up by the correct adult response.

Want to vs would do, if it came down to it, as angry and you expect you'd feel if you're not already the type of person to be able to give out a beating then chances are you wouldn't be able to beat someone to death.. anger will only get you so far and then humanity kicks in.
