Yes , if you spent £350 for a car to perform worse than it did before a remap you would be as well

Or in Rich's case where it smashed his forged build to bits because the guy maps with one of those "my first laptop" lol

Haha...yeah I wouldn't be happy..what was the power before and after?

Duncan made my car alot better when he mapped it last year so that's why I've recommended him to my mate.

Indeed they do, and some people take that as an opportunity to bury the blade.
I have had Duncan work on my car many times, mechanical, electrical, and mapping work.
I have never had an issue with Duncan.
The guy is friendly.
He's punctual.
He doesn't stop at 5 o'clock because it's time to go home.
He's competitively priced.
He gets results.

As far as an hourly rate for mapping goes, I have had sessions where mapping takes 2 hours. I have also (recently) had a session where a remap took 40 minutes.
I paid the same for each session -and happily I might add.
Why? Because I'm smart enough to understand that mapping isn't simply a matter of ticking a few boxes and hoping for the best. Sometimes it takes a bit of time, and sometimes the results come easy.
I also understand that mapping a car to its full potential is at MY risk.

If you can't stand the heat, step away from the dyno.

Very good to here that some of his work is satisfactory,I really hope your car lasts longer than mine!
Car detting is **** off to the point of shattering forged Pistons, injector overrun set to 3500rpm in an attempt to map pops and bangs, car drove like a pig on three legs but at least he achieved the 'bang'
Half arsed wired in the IAT sensor into the wrong place, wired up to make it look like it works, not bother to set any of the compensation tables.
At least he's punctual tho.

If you like playing with Dynamite then step away from the dyno!

Thats very unfortunate for you.

I dont know your situation with regards to your car, and its unfortunate that your car performed worse.

I can only say that Duncan has mapped my car from the very beginning, since i purchased the car in 2012. I have since had multiple tweaks from him, with him offering me GOOD advise, i took his advise and have managed to get the car to just under 400bhp.
But thats me, you are you, and another customer is another customer.

I hope you managed to get your car to perform better, after the disappointment of having a mapping session from race dynamic.

I just feel that to come onto a forum and rubbish a mapper is bad form, just because your car didnt perform as you wished. IMO there are always 2 sides to every situation, good or bad.

There are lots of happy customers, and unfortunately there will be lots of unhappy customers, that is the nature of tuning and mapping, if the tuner/mapper does not achieve the desired results i suppose.

It is very hard to please everyone, there will be those that are left disappointed.

Fact is you are a disappointed customer

I get it that people have good and bad experiences with professional service providers, and you're very likely to have your say about your experiences.
That happens in all walks of life.

What boils my pi55 is when a guy asks a genuine question such as the OP has done, and waiting in the wings are the assassins looking for a chance to turn the thread into a witch hunt with posts that really have nothing to do with the original subject.
It's not thread evolution, it's nothing more than trolling imo.

Furthermore it's these kinds of comments that has seen many forums turned into empty wastelands of professional technical input because the guys that do the work won't submit themselves to kangaroo jurys.

Apart from the guys at Engine Tuner which mappers have regular tech input to SNET these days?

Nicknames like 'dynamite' don't just get made up for the sake of it, there's always some reasoning behind them.

Nicknames are personal as are experiences.
I just don't see the perpetual need for the same folk to jump on every mapping thread and trash the guy.
As I said we're all worse off on here because of lynch mob style posting about Subaru professionals, not just Duncan.

I disagree, the members on here are as helpful,as experienced and as willing as ever to help other members out,the info and tech knowledge is as good if not better than it's always been.
Other forums and the likes of social media may have watered this down a little but as well as all the archived threads along with new make the forums as good as ever.

Now the op has had his answer and is happy to use Duncan when he's available then all is well.
I will switch the light off on my way out

I didn't say the membership on here were in any way unhelpful., and I'm sure they have experience in many things in varying degrees.
But if I read you correctly you think that the advice offered by well intentioned but otherwise amateur and unqualified SN members is equal to or better than that to be had from a professional? Surely not.

In my experience the ones with the most to say have had the less hands on experience.
Any way's my car was mapped by Duncan two years ago, it goes like stink and hasn't missed a beat since. Despite umpteen track days and being driven hard/badly. Then again my engine was built properly in the first instance and was in top condition when he mapped it.

My car was running an MD321H, mapped by Duncan at RCM to 441hp. The turbo performing above it's mark. I wanted more, as the engine spec was capable of more, so I changed the turbo to a billeted, used MD321T which I obtained through Enginetuner. At the re-map the car made just over 430hp, I was shocked, I'd just spent over a grand and I had a drop in power. I didn't blame Duncan then, nor did I come on here complaining. The first thought was the turbo as it was the only thing that had changed. It turned out it was my old AVO intercooler and after upgrading to a grimmespeed, it all came together and the car made 466hp at RCM.
I've had my car ten years and in that time Paul Blamire, Bob Rawle and Duncan have mapped the car over continuous periods. Any of these guys would always get whatever the car would give safely on the day, and even if sometimes disappointed with the results, I was always happy that a good job had been done.

There are plenty of professional and very experienced SN members who offer help and advice, also many many thousands of posts on the forum from professional and very experienced SN members.
There are also many many SN members who are enthusiasts which you might not class as 'professional' but are more than capable of giving good sound advice

There are a lot of garages, tuners etc that I wouldn't let near 'any' of my cars tbh.
The thing is, you choose your people and stick with them, if they **** up, you make a informed decision and go from there.

There's loads I can say about the 'professionals' but why would I do that, I just let folk crack on with who they want to use unless one is asked directly then I'll tell them.

I've told folk before, they don't listen, so be it......not my business so let them crack on.

Duncan mapped my 06 WRX almost 5 years ago to the day. It made 334/381 and hasn't skipped a beat, not once. Runs great and been a pleasure to drive every single day as my every day car. He was friendly, helpful, ready to wade in when required to help fit parts and a pleasure to deal with. That was my experience.

Well considering the thread topic concerns mapping, would you care to name a professional mapper who regularly offers help and advice on here other than the Engine Tuner guys?

I'm sure you get my point really, you're just playing hard to get

I would not like to name anyone tbh, they're here, you just have to look.
As most people tend to go for a 'pro' map then the subject of DIY mapping is rarely covered and advice not asked, when it is asked then the help and good advice is there
Like I say, many many threads cover many many subjects, including mapping and they go back nearly 20 years

Ps
I now map my own car and have zero detonation

I have used quite a few mappers over the years.
Duncan has mapped my track car over the past 2/3 years, it goes like stink and has never missed a beat.
So my personal experience has been very good.
He is off on Honeymoon soon...so will not be about for a while.

Unfortunately it seems this thread has turned into "who's best" but experience is being shared which can only be good for the op etc

If I were to give advice and I have used a fair few mappers in many years of Subaru ownership too, on road mapping and dyno, engine tuner would get my vote every time,
As mentioned previously I have tried using some of the so called experts in the past but lack of response via phone or email when let's be honest only takes a few minutes to reply to has put me off and hence taking my custom to engine tuner,
They answer the phone every time and will offer advice and will certainly ring you back if Martyn and co aren't available at that precise time,
They also have the time, facilities and equipment to fix any problems they find at the time of mapping which is highly likely, I was there for a whole day for mapping coming across problems with clutch, leaks from fmic and was all sorted within the costs of the session,
These so called power runs etc don't allow enough time to encounter such problems in order to fix

Engine tuner are also the furthest mappers to me that I have used and wouldn't use anyone else !
