The car will only use coolant on boost.
take it for a drive and watch temp gauge.
its a very common fault on the poo.5 engine hence why people in the know avoid it.

^^^^ Yep.

The main failure of 2.5 head gaskets is due to the heads lifting under boost because they were not torqued correctly in the factory. If you're running higher than standard boost levels there is more chance of this happening.

Only way to tell is speak to the mapper and see if he knows or fit a boost gauge.

Generally recommended to keep below 1.35bar on the standard 2.5 engines.

If memory serves, the general consensus amongst the tuners as regards the recommended max. boost levels:

* 2.5 OEM std:
map to 1.3bar
(gives around 350-370bhp)

* 2.5 built (propely forged):
map to 1.6/1.7bar
(gives around 450-470bhp).

(Obviosuly, supporting mods dependent.)

the white expansion tank, to the right of the rad, as you stand at the front of the car... it should be half full... when the car is properly cold. I make the level with a marker pen when cold so you can see any loss. slight loss is normal.

Idle should be steady at 800 RPM
sounds like the garage is trying to fob you off.
Didn't buy it from the Cheshire area did you by any chance?

It's not normal.
Just looked at your other thread,the advice to get the map checked as it has an induction kit is good advice.
I thought Zi Motorsports also did remapping? Get them to have a look and to stop talking bollox,car is supposed to have a nice steady idle

In the 2nd but. What we looking for?
Rick over is under 1k and above the 500rpm.

Turn lights on or heater it goes up slightly?

Had it been mapped with the induction not on? Or before it was fitted?

Does the car run rough?

Welcome buddy hope the problems get sorted.
But I would be concerned over some of the problems that are popping up, a 38k car the engine is a bit rough for my liking. I would have been more inquisitive before parting with my hard earned before driving off. The AEM could prove costly if not mapped in properly.
Here's hoping the pooh.5 is not about to pop. Does it have any SUBARU dealer history?

Welcome. When you put extra load on at idle, like air con, the engine will adjust to that load; however, it should settle immediately. It shouldn`t judder at all. Given the state of your engine bay, and the mods that have been added, I would be a bit concerned about how it has been looked after, maintainance and map wise.
Off topic, I used to work for CLC`s owner, Childerstone, 15 or 20 years ago.
