Alcazar, remember it took several years to get fat, it doesn't happen overnight.

Well it's the same to get weight down and fit again.

Cut down fruit/drinks and drink more water.

I tried a new machine at the gym tonight but after an hour I felt sick. It's great, you should try it, it has Mars Bars, Kit Kats and crisps!

Alcazar,

Don't be dis-heartened, you have made great progress. Keep with it and in a few more months you will have lost more than a stone

Energy and vitality

I think they're various specific exercises to reducing beer gut...

Been looking net and it appears these fitness trackers are programmed for 10000 steps a day

Seems a lot - 5 miles !

Even gov guidelines would have you doing only 1.3 ( 20 mins a day)

10,000 is nothing, if you're not at a desk to ten hours a day you're probably close anyhow. Just use your iPhone... but you have to keep it with you, or get a Watch.

Alcazar, drink more water if you're getting cramps.

More water is on the plan now.

Yes, it was the doc who suggested I could be both lighter and slimmer, for my health.
He said to give it a try. The guy who trains us is quite good, some of us are that bit older and he keeps an eye on us and won't let us over-commit.

It's a bit off being blown away by young lasses, mind........

Could anybody tell me

if heart rate while running is in the red ie zone 5 constantly ( 165 average out of theoretical 170 )

would it ever be possible to go any faster without damage anyway - I can barely make 7 mph .

This is after being on the bike ( 153 av) ,. I doubt it would make much difference to run speed though

this is at 19 mph on the bike

I'm no expert but as your fitness increases your heart rate will stay the same but your speed and or endurance will increase.

Wish I could average 19mph on the bike, I get 15mph and often less. I blame the bike and lack of lycra.

I have found that the fitter I am I have a slightly lower heart rate. When turbo/cycling racing, I am 2-5 beats off my maximum. In the road time trial(10)I am in the maximum heart rate or 2 bpm below.

Dpb. Have you tried HIT 1 minute repetitive sprints to improve your speed for both running and cycling. You should be able to get over 20mph average with some speed work.

As they say the only way to get fast is to go fast

I'll try that. Yesterday the in between bits of the "Sprint" involved walking
..

What I really don't want to do is pulling calf muscle / getting cramp on run after doing too much on bike

Good stretching regime and keep salts\electrolyte topped up on cycling section to prevent cramps. Also Q chainrings are alleged to help from cycle to run transition
