It will always be a bit of an all rounder. Haven't got the budget to go racing so it will just sat there never used if I built a race car as such.
It will still be a road car but I'd like it to be capable on the strip and round a track.
I'd like to get a bit of weight out of the car and lose some of the non essential stuff. I will however be keeping the stereo and aircon
Anyway the car has seen it's first bit of it's new colour today.
It's gone on really well too.

This is going to be good, and very interesting. It's going to take you a while to recover from those injuries, so hope you didn't knock up all that concrete on your own. My wife is a sports masseuse and said once healed, that can really help because of muscle shortening and loss. Good luck on both fronts. I followed your threads as I lived in WA early 90's

Great to see you back to it, enjoyed reading about this car and your journey with it so far.
I was planning on doing the same thing to my Type R but was looking into using a spit / jig to make my life easier, push came to shove and I sold the Type R and kept the JDM Hawk instead (some will raise an eyebrow at the decision I bet
). Since giving up my space I hat to work on my cars, I've now nowhere to do this to my Hawk, and for one, I dont think I can be arsed rolling around the floor buffing and painting on my back !
Do you plan to use a spit? Any sort of treatment to go on the underside before hand such a Rust Bullet? I see the Evo boys often use that stuff before applying stonechip and painting. I take it you are using a proper spray gun for the painting too? Quite interesting when people undertake this typre of work as I haven't seen many Subaru owners actually do it.
Good luck anyhow, and stay away from stables, I'd like to see this car's next stage of deveolpment unfold without you hurting yourself haha.

Here's the last three.
Fortunately as it's an Aussie car there isn't any rust on it anywhere so I am just going to clean it, stonechip it and then paint it. Unlike my last cars I won't be dailying this one so it'll rarely see bad weather. Hopefully what I'm doing will protect it well enough.

I managed to get a full day on it today.
I got the underside prepared and ready for sealing and painting tomorrow.
Due to space constraints and not wanting to climb over everything whilst I'm painting I'm doing it in two goes.
2/3 of it will be done tomorrow which will be upto the rear diff carrier.
I'll get all that done and then the gearbox, cradle and front crossmember and front running gear can go back on the car.
I'll tidy up the garage and then do the same with the rear.

Probably going to stick with it. The car was very conservatively tuned with little timing lower down so I feel the car had plenty more to give.
The big thing for me though is how versatile and easy to drive it was. So providing I can get the turbo repaired properly I'll go that route first. If I do change it will just be a Gen2 of what I have now.

Bit of work tidying a few things up.
Steering rack before:
After a bit of hammerite.
Anti roll bar Before
After
Struts just got jetwashed and de-greased. Hard to believe these units have done over 300,000kms they look like new.
Suspension will all be revisited at somepoint. The plan is for some decent coilovers and to get it all polybushed.
Although I'm amazed considering the amount of Kms this car has done that all the OEM bushes seem to be in good order with very little wear.

A little update..
Car is now fully undersealed and painted so time for reassambly.
Although I needed to tackle the fuel system whilst the fuel tank was off the car.
I wanted to do things a little different this time round.
Rather than run rubber fuel hose through the car I decided to use the factory hard lines to eliminate the constant fuel smell in the car.
The factory feed line is not big enough on it's own for my fuel requirements so I decided to get a little creative.
As I no longer need the breather line this can now be used as a return line and I have combined the factory feed and return lines and now have two 8mm (OD) feed lines.
Just had to cut the hard lines to allow for AN06 fittings to be used from the fuel filter forwards.
All in all a pretty neat solution.
Will look great once the boot is painted and all the fittings hoses replaced with new ones.

Pretty certain it was materials failure in the valves.
A mate of mine in Oz built his at around the same time and all his inlet valves have the same stress fractures. I wont ever use Supertech again.

Quick update.
Underneath of the car is pretty much done now.
The main aim of this was to protect the underside of the car for years to come.
I also took the opportunity to make it look a bit better.
To be fair I could have gone a lot further and made it look a bit bling but I also want to keep it as near to original as I can.
I opted to use a bit of colour on a few choice bits just to break it up a bit.
I'm happy with the end result.

Thought I'd lock myself away in the garage away from all the bog roll hoarders.
Had a busy few days on the car...
Starting to strip the car ready for the colour change.

No turning back after repairing a few dents.
Building a "Spray Booth" in my garage.
I've decided to paint it in stages to make it a bit easier for me.
First up is the roof.
