It like having your car stolen, abused by the thief. When it is returned most people don't want that car, it is tainted. It is not the car, it is the memories it invokes.
What? You go home and restore a back up, either through iTunes, which probably backed up your phone before applying the update that bricked it or via iCloud. If you don't have a backup of your "valuable photos or messages" then you're a doofus.

There was no warning that applying an update would erase the phone, no requirement to back up.

Boll@cks, they tried it on and were caught
So a Seattle law firm sees an opportunity to make a fast buck and gets a few people to agree to sue. Big deal. If they actually a) run with the action and b) win, that's another matter.

You do realise that Apple, Microsoft, and all of the rest have actions raised against them all the time?

2 people is all it takes to raise a class action.

Lets see the outcome before jumping on the bandwagon.

There's generally no warning of:

a) Getting your phone stolen
b) Losing your phone
c) Damaging it beyond salvageable repair

None of which are Apple's fault but can happen at any time, on any device, running any operating system. Which is why apple (and no doubt the rest) recommend regular back ups.

Anyone with half an ounce of common sense will back up their phone (s) regularly, and only a fool would run an os/firmware update without backing up first. Its cheap (50GB of cloud storage costs 79 pence a month, 5GB is free), its easy - you just switch it on once in settings and it does it automatically when plugged in, locked and on wifi, and it means that whatever happens you won't lose valuable photo's and messages.

Or you just plug into a computer running itunes and backup there and then if you don't want to use the cloud.

Its like locking the front door when you leave the house. If you can't be arsed taking sensible precautions then don't complain or expect sympathy when you lose stuff.

What makes you think they were forced to? A few hyped stories on the internet, like this one?

not refering to this regards to forced to, although they did do it cos a law suit was being brought against them.

But considering they claimed it was unrepairable then shows it in fact is.

In your mind maybe.

Umm, it was. Now an update has been made available that contains a workaround. That's pretty normal.

Yes I can read, I know what a class action suit is, where have Apple told you they even blinked an eye at the notion?

Bahahahahahahaha

Apple has said sorry to iPhone customers whose phones were disabled after third-party repairs, and issued a fix for the problem.
So Apple tried to rip everyone off, everyone got annoyed, Apple **** themselves and released a "fix" and an apology.

Oh look all the fanboys in this thread were wrong .. shocking

Made my day

Bet Jack is suggesting it was all a big plan for free advertising .. or maybe a rogue Android loving employee... I still can't get over how the fanboys defend something like this when even Apple themselves admit it was stupid.

Nope, there was an issue Apple fixed it, that's all we know and I'm sure lots of people are happy.

There was no need for this thread at all, just anti Apple idiots throwing their toys out of the pram, journalists and lawyers trying to cash in. Still, it was entertaining and I hope everyone learnt a little about iOS security. I did.
