Easier just to unplug the crank sensor jay, always do this on an oil change
I'm itching to turn the key now, fluids and filter came, just need to add these then give the map a little tweak then should be good to go

I do mate, always amazes me how much these little filters take.

Saying this I recently read a thread by The Rig(on a different subject) where he has an oil filter relocation kit fitted,it's at the front of the engine bay and upside down so I don't think priming the filter is so important, priming the engine is a must. I will be doing both anyway.

You shouldn't need to prime the filter, i just remove the coil pack plug and turn the engine over a few times.

I always prime my filters before I fit them. Always have done, saves the potential for oil starvation even on turnover before starting.

Something i might start doing then, and then turn over a few times for extra measures

Back on the road
Held my breath while I turned the key and it fired straight up,what a relief!
I know it's taken me a while but I don't think I did too bad in between work and stupid jobs around the house that the missus likes to gift me!!
It would have been nice just to get it all done in one go as when breaking off all the time it's not so fresh in the mind.
Overall tho I really enjoyed rebuilding it,very satisfying as oil change and spark plugs is usually about as much as I do.
Only one heart sinking moment, left it ticking over for 15mins to warm up,header cap off, heater on but was blowing cold when fully up to temp, feared the worse for a few minutes but then pulled my self together and said it will just be an airlock.
Let the car cool down and water levels were good,so took it out for a drive and a couple of minutes driving,,,we have heat

Car really runs nice again, just need to tweak the map a little,,nice one to bludgod for sorting me a nice safe timing map
I will run for a week or so and do a fresh oil&filter change and have a proper look at the map, kept an eye on AFR's and they were pretty good.
Only took it easy for now,did some logging but not had a look yet, also turned the boost down to 1.1bar,to say it's a bigish turbo it still feels very responsive and could feel it itching to get going!

Hi,

Ive been following your threads and the problems you've faced and just wanted to say my hats off to you for keeping your cool and sorting the engine yourself.

Congrats on getting it running. Hopefully you can enjoy the car now.

Very good of the guy to sort the block out aswell.

10/10 Rich, i'm just like you biggest jobs done on my Impreza is fitting new break calipers, radiator, exhaust, intercooler and general servicing, i couldn't imagine temping to rebuild my engine, so credit where credit is due.

You should of popped a video up of first start
