Now that's a dry ****.....no ky or anything.
Range Rover will more than likely already be on eBay.....

Burn a treat those old rangies
I'm sure the Impreza will be on a Facebook site where the previous owner is asking why his engine is tapping like ****.........

Gutted for you mate

But it all depends on how much the Range Rover was worth as to how much you've been done over in real terms?

Mattybr5@MB had this up for sale a while back

To be honest mate I had 1200 quid in the Range Rover but I got it at a total steal with only 107k from new full service history the lot it was a mint runner that's what's maddening but I'm cracking on I would rather have the Subaru I've missed owning 1 it's something to get ready for the summer I suppose here's a pic of the car three day

Bonnet needs a resort apart from that and engine it's pretty straight no rust key marks nothing engine has had a large updated top mount intercooler with all samco hoses drilled brakes bigger turbo but yet to look more into it as the intercooler is that big I can only see corner or it and has a sports cat back stainless exhaust

Well I think you've been a bit careless personally, no checks done previous, no hpi, no paperwork, nothing. Seems like you put the rose-tinted glasses on and fell in love as soon as you saw it.

However, going round there and knocking seven shades of $hit out of him won't help. However tempting it may be.

Hopefully, you haven't been totally disheartened by this episode and you get it all fixed.

From what you've said you'd probably get £1200 back if you broke it with an engine replacement you'll end up with a pretty good blob

BTW loose the rear wing it's frickin hideous

As above
You would probably get £1200 back by breaking
To spend 5k on a new engine rebuild is maybe not the best idea if you need are respray

To go back and beat the bloke up damage his property will see you Locked up or beaten up yourself so not worth it for £1200
Life is a learning curve which Unfortunely you have o ly lost £1200 of value on your stock

Probably not worth spending the money on, looks in poor condition wing dont match the rest of the car and that spoiler wtf and needs an engine, could be a heap of other problems with it( never jump in and buy a subaru unless your really sure about it) id be selling it on or breaking it and putting it down to a bad experience, spending money on that is going to be a huge gamble.

How did you drive it home? it dosen't have an MOT.

I think, on this occasion, you have to accept you've been a nugget, and sell the car as spares or repair to get hopefully your money back. Having an engine rebuild in that, would be a bad financial decision - unless you can do the work yourself in your shed.

I would ignore the internet fantasists advice about going to get your Range Rover back and taking a bat - that wouldnt work out for you at all and you may lose more that £1200. I presume V5's were swapped? so that means essentially you would be stealing his property.

From the picture it looks like a right shed, are those panels different colours? the eBay wing? what has been done to the lights? and thats only what we can see. Do like the wheels though, but they also need a refurb!

I have a WRX engine sitting spare, its my spare blob engine. New timing belt on it and recent service. Has no manifolds, turbo, flywheel or coilpacks in it, but then you have all that. I would do it for £500 exchange for your engine. Bring your engine up to dundee and ill do a swap.

Like others have said for the money a rebuild is going to cost i would cut your losses as that doesn't look to be the best example (no offence) unless you can take Boosted up on his offer and get it back on the road cheaply.

I am soo gutted for you fella, my story is very similar to yours... apart ftom i didnt swap i paid cash and to me a fair bit of it for a blob wrx.

It had few goodies on it and was my mates old car who in turn sold to his mate who in turn paid some one to 'rebuild it'... needless to say 300 miles later and an oilchange rod knock real bad and oil looked like it was reused after the rebuld as was black as god know what....

But we live and learn, i presisted but had a spare wrx engine so put that in, since then had more problems... that being said there is nothing that i can do or you can do. buying a used car is a gamble you win or you lose

Hope it all works out...

car swaps are always a bad idea because normally only party benefits. If someone is offering their car for swap, they're often looking for the better part of the deal.

The question is realy how long a test drive did the op take. This will determine who's at fault.

ALWAYS!! offer to stick a tenner in the tank when viewing a car say you need it to heat up properly and go for a chat about it. While you find a road to teat every gear.

If the seller declines walk away

That's my policy anyway

The general population sees your car as a chav wagon too believe it or not. Many wrxs are up to sti power have longer ratio less notchy gear boxes. Suspention more suited to England not silverstone. Cheaper insurance less weight more relaxing drive and generally less chav if standard. Not starting a sti vs wrx debate again but it seems no sti owners ever admit there's nothing better about a wrx vs there car

Not to mention if you but 4300k hids in your wrx fogs. When you need them its like turning night to day!

Won't mention the half price and bremnos That can be had for 400 quid but my 4 pots are great

To be fair it's still illegal if you have no proof that the car is booked in at the mot station. Just saying!

Oh and yes the WRX is far far far superior to the poverty STI! The end

You cant get away from all this WRX vs STI on this forum! - its obvious the STI is a better car but we cant all afford them. We have to start somewhere!

Having had STI,WRX and UK2000 i couldn't agree with you more, all great cars in their own way.
Most of the time the old WRX v STI debates are a bit of banter but some do take things a bit too serious

Back on topic tho,i'm sure the OP will get this car back to it's former glory and it will be a great car when it's done.
I would be very tempted to take boosted up on his offer

Good luck with it all mate, and be sure to keep us updated to how you get on in the future.

You could put a zero on that if he advised on SIOC

He could also sell it back to Airbus to put back on one of their A380's

Hope you've fitted the vastly superior Subaru four pots then.

OP - Have you had any communication with the seller yet?
