Well I never thought I'd see the day I went this route, but the Mrs took delivery of her lime green Vauxhall Viva last saturday, cracking little motor it is too, half leather, cruise control, ac, lane assist, and a load of other stuff I've not had chance to take a look at.

She's done it PCP @£150 a month over 4yrs @80000 miles a year with 8p per mile excess.

Seemed a bit on the high side to me but having crunched the numbers, just on the basic numbers, she's saving £300 on tax and mot a year, currently showing just shy of 50mpg on the first tank full of fuel so that will be around £600 pa on fuel saved, so roughly £900 pa saving and that's before I take into account the £100 on insurance and the £200 she got for the MG and the not having to buy tyres for 18months, it's on 20k service but I will give it oil changes well before that.

So just off the initial £900 saving she's running about in a new car for £17.30 a week with no capital outlay and the fixed cost of one service per year, it's bloody crazy when you think about it, so much so I'm thinking about doing the same for me next year.

I have also gone this route, got a VXR Corsa in shiny rock with 18in alloys, light & sight pack, carbon pack & glass pack, coming mid January, on a 2 year deal, the really cheap deals on the VXR are not available now, but Astons have done a good enough job for me to sign up, with a car with lots of options for no more money.

Numbers look good Ditchy!!

Hassle free motoring for the next 4 years, If it breaks take it back and get it fixed under warranty, it works out cheaper then buying a cheap banger to run about in when you think that a cheap banger can cost anywhere from £500-1000, plus road tax, MOT, servicing and the fact you have to fix it every time it breaks, at least the family can drive round in something new and safer!!

Has the Viva got Vauxhall on-star??? Also did you get the Vauxhall £500 cash back deal????

Looking forward to seeing yours Paul Especially with the carbon pack, so get plenty of pics when you get it delivered!!!

Did you consider the Performance Pack with the nice brakes, and uprated Diff and suspension?? Personally I would have loved the big brakes just as it looks nicer behind the wheels, but not to bothered with the diff and the uprated suspension, So wish the brakes where a option on there own!!

I did consider the performance pack, but the ride at town speeds was to harsh for an everyday car, the brakes won't be a problem, its a shame they don't do the diff as a pack on its own, I would of ticked that option, but will have to re learn my old Mini Cooper S, no not the BMW type, the original, driving style, been to easy with Subaru's off the line.

well I just wrote a long *** post and it didn't work, so can't be arsed to re write it, so I'll just say, it made good economic sense, we're both chuffed to bits with the car and I'm pretty sure I'll be getting something in a similar price range before the end of next summer, all being well.

Oh sb1, it's not got onstar, it's an SL not sure what the standard spec is but ours has more like 3qtr leather and a lovely leather steering wheel.

It's not super quick or anything but it holds 85mph on the motorway without issue and should get around 60mpg which works for me.

one thing that still freaks me out a little is how much room there is inside the bloody thing, it's got more rear leg room than a impreza and about the same in front, how the **** do they do that.

Forgot to add, the MG I bought 9 months ago for £640 was playing up, heaters not working and sounding like a diesel when it's a petrol, randomly cutting out.

Tax was due, Mot not too far off and it was going to need new tyres in 2/3months, also had to rent a car last time I came over as with it sounding the way it did I didn't want the mrs and boy wonder in it on the motorway to stansted and back.

So options, £500/5000 roll of the dice on a banger or something slightly better, but with equal risk or new car on tick for bugger all.

You decide.

I do remember, and the only reason I haven't done it sooner is the deals on offer never added up, I have tried to do it twice before now, once with Peugeot and again with a fiesta, well actually tried this time with a fiesta as well but the ford dealers were so slow to get back to us, contacted on the 12. 12 and called back 3 days ago to arrange an appointment, also wouldn't discuss anything via phone or email, my mrs is way too busy as head of department and a 8yr old to entertain to drive 30 odd miles to Grantham for a chat in a car showroom and the Nottingham ford dealers is just full of jack the lad type young pr1cks that look more like birds than blokes.

Also wasn't really a necessity as both cars were fine, so no pressure to get something sorted, that said there wasn't really that much pressure this time either but she liked the car and the deal so she went for it.

I'd also add that Aston Vauxhall were a cut above the rest in terms of customer care and communication etc, other places she went to or spoke to, lets just say she wasn't impressed.

I found that too Ditch, Aston's customer service was exceptional for the UK, basically how it should be but rarely is.

Aston's where brilliant, thanks to there £500 cash back I bought myself a PS4 and bought my wife a Michael Korrs watch as a Christmas present!!!

But there customer service was excellent, Ive had many cars over the years and no dealer has come close to the service I received from them.

Going to be testing their after sales service out tomorrow, car been playing up and wouldn't start today so I have sent it back to them on an AA truck.

Not overly happy with the breakdown arrangements, AA came out pretty quick, diagnosed faulty cam sensor, but then wanted to drag me and the mrs to Eastmids airport to get a rental car, where we would have to pay for insurance and petrol deposit etc, then have to take it back there come monday, so I said bollocks to that as it's just a waste of my time and money just to have a car sat on the drive for a day, bad enough that it's ruined my Mrs Boxing day which is the only time all her sisters, nephews, nieces and their kids get together, as they are spread all over the UK.

Car full of presents all loaded up ready for the off and it won't start.

So I have had it shipped back to Astons as the Vauxhall dealership that's only 5mins away were rude to her when she went round to see about buying a car there, so we have no confidence that they would be too interested in sorting us out as they never supplied the car.

I know it's no ones fault but I'm quite p1ssed off right now, not so much for myself but because my Mrs is gutted.

Well we will see what happens in the next few days, and how they deal with the situation, but I don't see why we should shell out for hire cars etc when the car was barely a week old.

Well so am I, considering the whole point was trouble free motoring, it's not boding well

We thought it might be something we were doing wrong as it has an economy stop start thing where the revs drop to a specific point to show it's doing it, then you dip the clutch put it in gear and off it goes again, but it's not that, to start it you don't hold the key on crank as it does it it's self once turned to that position you just let go of the key and it cranks until it starts and you can't bump it because it won't start without the clutch being pressed down, all a bit too clever for it's own good if you ask me.

I't been a bit strange all week with the traction light coming on and revs dropping, then yesterday it took about 5 goes for it to start, engine light came on as well but it was driving ok and the engine light is a multi function light depending on what its doing tells you what's wrong, so first thing this morning we took it round the corner to the dealers (which is maybe 500m away) but they were shut, so back home and then it wouldn't do **** all.

Funny thing is you turn it off and on again and it clears the lights then drive for a bit and it just does it again after about 20mins, so I didn't want to chance it and just called the AA, as I know these modern cars it can be just something stupid and it has buttons for the traction off etc so again thought she may have just pressed something.

Ho hum, it's certainly put a big damper on xmas and the new car shine has really worn off, where's my MG.

Turn off the stop start rubbish, it is absolute bollocks on the VX stuff, had a load of vans and cars from VX with it on through work, and it is never quick enough to respond, sometimes does it, sometimes doesnt, stalls etc!

Thought I'd give a bit of an update while I'm on here.

So obviously with it being the holidays mechanics weren't in to take a look at the car until tuesday, a nice lady from Astons had been in touch with us on the monday to explain the situation, which was expected to be honest, so ish lunch time tuesday I gave them a call to see what the state of play was. Turns out the AA man was right and it was the crank sensor at fault (thus far) so they attempted to order one for the next morning.

I also made her aware that regardless of what else happens we need a car by close of business on wednesday as I needed to be at Stanstead airport by 5.30am thursday morning, which she assured me we would either have our car back or a vehicle of some description.

As it turns out the part needs to come from Germany as none in the UK and with it being the holidays it could take as many as 10 days to arrive, we had a car delivered to us by about 1pm on the wednesday, which was fine as far as we were concerned, slight inconvenience but no ones fault ultimately and happy enough with the service and communication as well as a good attitude towards us, so no complaints about Astons and their service.

We did have to give a £70 deposit over the phone which is apparently a refundable security deposit, although I suspect it's more about getting card details for the hire company incase of any damage, which I'm not overly happy about to be honest as I know that this then means the hire company can sting you for any amount they see fit. Had this before with car hire hence my reluctance to pay anything, but we needed transport and were out of options.

Up side is it was a Corsa SRI and I quite liked it may even get one off them for myself if the numbers are right in a few months, it's nothing too fancy but enough of a car for my needs and more importantly the new 1.0L turbo engine gets around 60mpg which will mean I'll use half the amount of fuel as I do now, coupled with no tax, mot, no capital outlay etc will mean it costs similar money to this one, I think I'm a convert but only time will tell.

Bringing this old thread back to life, any issues with the lease cars / dealers / warranty / servicing to warrant any further comments, or has it been completely hassle free motoring.

My Corsa VXR has had its first service, I pushed it to its 3 weeks over the 12 month date so when it goes back at 2 years its still 3 weeks off a service, had the rear wiring update, & after 12months of faulty tyre pressure monitoring system its finally sorted, it does now acknowledge it has 4 wheels not 3.
Fuel consumption has been better than the 1.4 Corsa I had before, by quite a bit on long runs, anybody else found this ?

I ended up with a MK7 Golf GTi which turned up xmas 16. Only 2k miles under its belt so far but no complaints or issues yet. Got a cracking deal at £95.99pm with 2k down over 24 months and 8k miles. Excess is only 6.2ppm also. Deal was only active for 2 days due to the large volume of orders. Clearly trying to sell of the old stock before the facelift came in this year. Car is fully loaded though so no complaints this end.

Ours has been trouble free, it went in for some sort of recall to the local dealer and had a service @ a cost of £180... which was expected... she used the local dealer as it is literally just round the corner 2/3 mins away... and they were fine... offered her a car but it wasn't necessary, so didn't bother... She's a couple of thousand miles over the 8000 pa but we expected that.

TBH it's a brilliant little car and perfect for what she needs 99% of the time, it's a game little engine and would easily crack a ton, which she would never do anyway... so more than enough engine wise.

Only problem really is the tip runs... we had a bit of a chat about possibly getting something bigger but she likes the ease of parking and the low fuel consumption... so we've decided to stick with the small car thing and i've sourced a towbar for £75 and we'll be buying a small trailer in a month or so for camping gear, tip runs and bike rack... problem solved, no crap in the car and the trailer thing will be good for the for seeable future, all in all very happy about it... thus far and would recommend it to anyone, really good way of getting yourself into a new car.

I'm not sure that I would do it for a more expensive vehicle as then the losses out weigh the gains, IMO but sub £200 and your onto a real winner, as the cost of ownership/ no capital outlay outweighs depreciation on buying a new car.

My Corsa VXR has just turned to 5500 miles today after 16 months of ownership, So not really doing the 5k per annum as per contract, so I wonder of they will give me money back giving them the car with less miles on

Only problem I had was I broke my drivers side driveshaft after 6 months of owning it, took it back to Vauxhall who actually fixed it for free Other then that its been trouble free motoring, Also the exhaust has got louder #cough non-resonated exhaust fitted #cough which was needed.

I do wish I didn't go for the 3 year lease deal as now we have another child(3 weeks old) and the car is to small with baby stuff and kids and im stuck with it for another 20 months when I should be looking at getting a bigger car/estate/SUV etc.

Where did you find enough grip to bust a shaft ?, all they want to do is wheel spin, unless its on the anti skid surface.

Mine has got a better exhaust note as the miles have built up, at the moment it has a scuffed front alloy, & a front bumper, from a lorry losing a mud flap full of grit hitting it on the motorway, looks like I have washed it with a brick, not decided weather to send it back like it & take a hit, or do it a couple of weeks before it goes back.

My wife's leased vauxhall mokka goes back next month...has anyone sent one back to the lease company yet and had problems?
do they go through the car with a fine tooth combe or is it a quick look around and then take it away?

Mine has got a better exhaust note as the miles have built up, at the moment it has a scuffed front alloy, & a front bumper, from a lorry losing a mud flap full of grit hitting it on the motorway, looks like I have washed it with a brick, not decided weather to send it back like it & take a hit, or do it a couple of weeks before it goes back.

Wasn't grip issues I drove over the dogs bed in the garage and it got wrapped round the driveshaft, I never noticed driving to work and back all week until my missus asked if I had seen the dogs blanket as its gone missing, I decided to look under the car and there it was, I tried to pull it out and it broke the CV joint from the driveshaft and bent the driveshaft slightly!!!

I changed the resonated mid-section for a non-resonated from enhance motorpsort and its gave it a louder exhaust tone, plus the occasional pops/bangs seem a bit louder!!

When I was on the Mercedes lease scheme they were pretty good on damage etc, as long as they were presented in a clean condition, I got charged for a big ding on a rear arch £60.00, which would of cost 6 times that to sort, & a big chip out the windscreen £40.00, which was less than claiming on insurance screen excess.

I think it depends on who you get & what mood there in, some can't be bothered, others won't give up until they have a few things to write down.

You should have a booklet with the leasing companies damage allowances & rough guideline costs, did with the Corsa, that's ALD Automotive.
