Honestly if this sort of thing came to my home, as far as I'm concerned I don't have anywhere else to go, so I for one will stand and be counted, if that should lead to my demise, then so be it, but I'm not running, maybe in that moment I would try and put my loved ones in a place of safety, if that was a possibility, but I'd rather die fighting than live in fear, running with my back to my enemy waiting to be shot or bombed, as they say, "**** that for a game of soldiers"

And that my friend is where the problem really lies, there is some famous saying about good men doing nothing, I'm no hero, but when the preverbal hits the fan, I'm one of the few that stands their ground, no matter the consequences, and yeah I'm just as frightened as the next guy but that's normal, if you're not frightened then there's something seriously wrong inside your head, running doesn't stop the bad guys.

Good luck 'manning up' when someone drops a barrel bomb on your house and kills you and your family

If that's to be my fate, then so be it, tbh it's preferable to what some of these people put themselves and their families through. I'd rater die than live like a rat in a sewer, but hey everyone is different.

To be fair no one in their right mind would condone this sort of action.

Playing devils advocate, one can understand the outrage of those that have had family members killed by allied forces, but I don't think even they would condone murdering civilians on a night out.

At the end of the day people that commit these sort of atrocities are not right in the head and are also in the minority, what I fail to understand is why the majority stand for it, so to a degree I see your point also.

You blame me for what has happened, outrageously say I condone this atrocity and call me a 'lefty' and do all this in pigeon English, then start playing all hard done by when I react?

Anyway 90%??????

I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you, all a higher level of education proves is that a person is more malleable, which in it's self is nothing to be proud of.

Do you mean in the mirror Martin? As you know I'm thick or is it a rhetorical question?

I get all that, Ditch. I like to think I'd be granted the courage to fight this evil, but I don't think it'd be dealt with in a week. The Kurds (for whom I hold tremendous respect), Assad's mob, the western coalition and numerous other factions have been unable to displace Islamic State, so I'm unsure how a group of civilians would in such a short timescale, if at all.

Tragic events, not just in France but everywhere else that's been affected by ISIS that hasn't been covered by the media.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/107516

202,000 signatures now, makes that other petition seem very low key. Left, right or centre, emotions are high.

I like to think that I am a pretty open minded, accepting sort of chap, I certainly feel the pain of others and have empathy for those that are running from persecution or have a desire to make a better life for them self and their loved ones.

But, I think that the time has come that you have to put you and yours above all others and if that means that we have to turn our back on those wishing to come here then I think that is what we need to do, have signed the petition, something that I probably would not have done this time yesterday.

Was at a works do on Park Lane last night when the news broke, was a real shock and driving through central London this morning there was a real police presence that felt a little uncomfortable. We were going to go shopping on Oxford Street but decided to head home instead, which is pretty irrational really, but felt good getting home to our daughter.

Ditch, would like to think that I would have the minerals to stand and fight as well, but you never know until you are in that situation, hope neither of us ever have to find out, but fear that many more will have to.
